Can’t stop coughing - please help!?

Since last night I’ve developed an awful, painful paroxysmal cough (along with aches, runny nose etc). Basically I am coughing till I vomit and the cough spasms are so painful - feels like I’m going to burst a goddamn blood vessel!😵

Please share you remedies and tips? I am desperate 💩💩💩

On the upside, this is the first time in 3 days my temp has dipped towards normal range and my heart has stopped going like the clappers. I think that’s what’s stopped me sleeping (well and the ridiculous cough) as I can hear my pulse racing in my ears as soon as I turn to my side / ear against the pillow.

I’ve been unwell for 4 weeks. It’s atypical (walking) pneumonia & had 2 lots of antibiotics & now have inhaler as chest still rattle. High temperatures. Only found out because I had a medicine review as have RA & when GP spoke to me I couldn’t stop coughing. Wanted to see me as I’m immunosuppressed & confirmed it. Been seen 3 times & back on Friday. Still have low grade temperatures. It sucks.

I have annual chest infections, but I’ve never had a cough like this. I’ve been basically in bed since Saturday, been on antibiotics and steroids since Monday and still feeling utterly shite. I’ve strained all the muscles in my tummy from coughing. This is not your average bug! I was planning to go into work tomorrow but have already said I can’t, there’s no way I’m in any state to teach! I’m so sorry so many other people are feeling so dreadful!

I've just been to doctors and been given Steroid spray and antibiotics, also blood pressure sky high so I have to go back once I am better to see if it's dropped 🤞

@pattihews I remember discussing this at work with some doctors quite some years ago, as a couple of them swore it worked! It's the rubbing apparently. The feet actually have lots of nerves. (Ask any acupuncturist!)
Perhaps the sensory nerves in the soles of the feet respond to stimulation with Vicks VapoRub .This might then be stimulating something to interrupt the cough cycle. (Or not, but let's not completely discount it)
Old wives tales sometimes have a rather random but effective science behind them and it won't hurt to try. (If nothing else may be amusingly distracting)

So fed up of this coughing now, it’s been utterly relentless this evening 🤯

Well my temperature is high again. 4 weeks now & still coughing & have these blooming temperatures. I’m exhausted & same as pp my blood pressure is high. I can guarantee when I see the GP on Friday they will both be normal so I’ve resorted to taking photos. I’m so over this shit!

I have a bad cough atm I had flu and it's left me with a chesty cough. My sister suggested Manukau honey as she said it really took care of her cough. She told me it was £25 a jar though, and I was like no thanks I'm not that desperate yet 😂

Thought I was over the worst as the fever calmed down. But have been up since 4am with awful wheezing and strange noises coming from throat (lungs?!), like a mix of a whistle / whine / clicking noise. Also feel a bit like my breathing isn’t right, although oximeter says oxygen levels 97-98%.

Gah!

You would be best getting a pharmacist/doctor to listen to your chest

I get strange rattly clicks wheezy noises when I get a bad cough sometimes and it's usually a sign that my asthma has kicked into over drive my lungs are inflamed and the only thing that helps is steroids. But it could also be other things Definitely worth seeking advice especially as you have asthma.

Piriton helps, a GP suggested it once when I had a shocking cough.

I managed to speak on phone to GP, which is amazingly quick and I’m lucky to have a really decent reactive GP. He’s said I need steroids as it sounds like my asthma has flared up, so will send DH down the chemist to pick them up - fingers crossed🤞🏻

Adult whooping cough? Have a look at the symptoms.

Definitely go back to the doctors as it can turn into pneumonia if left.

On the plus side they tend to work fairly quick

On the downside they make me so hungry I would happily eat my own arm

I’ve been ill for 3 weeks and thought I was over the worst of it. Today, I’ve been sick about 30 times from the force of coughing - it’s horrendous. My blood pressure is also really
high too. I’m just praying the GP will give me something tomorrow as I feel absolutely diabolical, worse than I was when it started. Is anyone else vomiting?
