Adult ADHD - anyone else fed up of the constant battle.and of constantly losing it?

WhoHasMovedMyBrain · 28/11/2022 14:26

EVery evening I think that the next day will.be different. That I'll do my work, work when I have to, that I won't stuff my face, that I won't be late, that I'll tick off at least one tiny little.thing on.my.to. do.list. and every day I fail. I'm winging life because I've got a very organised and hard working husband, a very supportive family who have always carried me and because I can sort of.work when I'm.in dire straits..just before a deadline comes crashing down. I'm.so.fed up of the constant stress,.the constant self loathing, constantly underperforming, constantly fighting a losing battle. I feel.as.if..im.wasting my life away.

My psychiatrist is happy to prescribe meds but before.that I need to.make an appointment with my gp to get some blood tests done and I just can't do it. I can't.make the appointment to.do.the blood tests. I mean how stupid can you get?

And now I'm so late to.pick up DC that I can't have a shower. Though I've been looking forward to.it all day.

I know.im.lucky and. I've got it better than most so.i hate complaining but I hate my brain..I don't care if it's ADHD or.if I'm.just lazy, crazy and stupid but i hate being this way.

Can anyone relate?

The Neurodiverse MN section is totally useless if you want people with ADHD to reply because the threads are hidden from Active at the request of posters with autism and we never remember to check there.

I asked if it could at least be opt in and MNHQ said no Confused

Well that's shit, why the fuck do they have to be hidden from anyone? You can literally hide whatever sections you want manually. This seems really unfair.

puddleduck234 · 30/11/2022 14:14

It was hidden because there was a lot of trolls and miss information (and rightly so, some of the stuff I've seen on there in the past was horrible)

But there's the same nonsense on other subjects, why does this have to be singled out?

puddleduck234 · 30/11/2022 14:33

Because it's a support network for neurodivergent people. when it kept appearing in active, NT people jumped on the bandwagon with opinions which were offensive and ableist. Most posts ended up turning quite nasty.

BertieBotts · 30/11/2022 14:43

I do realise that, it's just frustrating that it can't be opt in at all. I find it impossible to use as it is. I only remember to look in there a couple of times a year.

Also they ought to make the whole choice of topics thing more clear in the first place because it's probably why people gravitate towards AIBU, if the rest of their Active is full of random topics they don't care about. If they did that, then they wouldn't need blanket rules for the SN topics at all because people would choose to see them.

get the meds

im more asd and started SSRI 3 years ago

they have helped in that

I accept myself
I forgive myself
I avoid things that trigger me
I read and educate myself on it
I practice better self care
I practice slightly better boundaries

get the meds and look into the Facebook support groups for women with adhd x

Does anyone please have any guidance for those, like me, that live in an area where the NHS won't fund the meds? Our CCG won't pay for adult ADHD medication, just under 16s. Is that even legal to discriminate??

WhoHasMovedMyBrain · 30/11/2022 14:57

Another really crappy day which started with me believing that I'll do better. Why can't I just function? I was really proud of myself for correcting a report but then that is the last and only thing I have done today. Instead I've eaten all the cake chocolate sprinkles we had at home. It's just going to be like this tomorrow again, won't it? I'm so fed up.

If it's hidden how do you find it?

It's in the topic list, it just doesn't show up in Active Convos.

TheSnootiestFox

NHS won’t give a subscription for either SSRI or Ritalin ? Where you are
i pay for my meds as per the NHS charge anyway

East Yorkshire. And my GP said a diagnosis was pointless as our CCG won't fund any medication for adult ADHD.

Sorry, I see what you mean now. I mean I can't even have them prescribed on the NHS so I'd pay the tenner or whatever it is these days!

puddleduck234 · 30/11/2022 16:10

If it's hidden how do you find it? it's only hidden from active threads. If you search in the topic bar it's all there

Like the girl my friend was talking to I have heard about people going partying with their friends and the cocaine comes out and whilst their friends are partying hard because they have taken coke the affect it has on them is to start cleaning their hosts bathroom and kitchen.

Comedian Lee Mack said this too. He didn’t say which drug but presumably coke - they were all partying and he started cleaning the kitchen.

TheSnootiestFox

try psychiatry UK
people say good things about them and not massively expensive x

as once prescribed you can carry on with an online pharmacy

Thisisworsethananticpated · 30/11/2022 16:43

and that’s totally shocking and messed up
ugh

I know this is probably not in the spirit of helping the NHS but could you get an out of area friend to pretend that you live with them, register at the gp and get diagnosed and on meds that way or get a few people in the area together and rent an address outside the area.

Get enough people and it could workout cheaper than private meds

what happens if you are already diagnosed and are on meds already. Do you have to stop or once you are on the meds can you get your out of area doctor to send the monthly prescription to a pharmacy near to your new address.

Or can no one with ADHD and on meds live in your area

Thank you. And the latter I think! The example the GP gave me was of one of his patients who had his meds withdrawn when he reached 16 so therefore I had no hope!

Get. The. Meds.

My life was miserable all through my 20s- “depression”, jumping from job to job, being sacked, failing college and uni courses, failed relationships, shit money management, debt…

Since being on meds my life is a total 360. Long term, solid relationship, finished my degree, work (successfully!) in a high pressured, busy, professional job. I’m a more calm and better parent. Lost 2 stone.

what meds are you taking?

reallyworriedjobhunter · 30/11/2022 17:59

Maybe use twatbangle as code? Hugs to you all. Hope you have a better day today op.

I got quite a bit done today for a chance. Who knows why my flippy floppy brain decided to cooperate.

I checked in with my GP on the waiting time to see the psych for meds in my area and it's 15 months 😭

Phrenologistsfinger · 30/11/2022 18:06

Am twatbangle also. Fed up of coping, it just gets harder.

Kennykenkencat · 30/11/2022 18:35

Well I wasn’t going to do a lot today so only took my Elvanse

I drove for 90 minutes in heavy traffic in a big van filled with stuff I needed to unload into a flat I am renovating so tomorrow I can get everything sorted so it is ready for the electrician on Monday.

I get to the flat and I forgot the keys.
So pissed off with myself

My GP said there was little point me going for a diagnosis as I would be dead before I got one. She kept saying it was years and years.
I told her that I still wanted to be assessed.

That was in the January. I think I would have been assessed in 8 weeks if I had got my forms filled out quickly
Instead it was about 3.5 months and I walked out of the assessment with my first prescription

blackheartsgirl · 30/11/2022 19:11

I must have been depressed since the age of two then by a pp!

I’ve had depression and i have diagnosed adhd. The two are not the same although adhd can trigger depression.

im unmedicated due to heart meds which is a pain as I need it
