To think Royal Mail workers should not be striking

Hitthehighseastoday · 27/11/2022 00:55

They’ve already been offered a 9% pay raise and declined. Royal Mail is already making a loss. It’s a national service for the public which is now being severely disrupted by strikes, it’s appalling.

Anymore for anymore 😂

It’s a shame all people have is ‘moron’ when they see opinions they disagree with. If you want to turn that anger on me whatever.

Florenz · 29/01/2023 11:22

I couldn't care less. I don't even know what he said. There's absolutely no reason for the government to be involved in any of this.

NameInUseAlreadyAgain · 29/01/2023 11:26

I’ve used the postal service once in the past year. At my work we hardly use anymore either. It’s a dying sector even without the strikes

How convenient! You've not watched it.

Perhaps let the government know that a MN says they don't need to get involved.

Your CEO made a complete fool of himself and it's given more power to the workers, it really was bad! Funny to watch and it'll be even funnier the next session.

Ah shame you went there.

I mean your words don’t matter to me as it’s just internet anger but discussion on a chat forum effecting you this much so you insult and lash out. Not great.

I think you're so so funny!

I'm going now, whilst stamping foot!

Then back again and again, saying I can come back

I bet you wish you could delete that comment?

Nope!

I do think people are too aggressive and insulting and said so

No regrets at all

There are a few threads on here that lament the change in style on mn I think they have a point. It puts people off posting and I don’t want to only read aggressor posts.

Most people don't expect to work in the same job or for the same company for their whole lives. Or for things to the stay the same for their whole working lives. The world changes all the time and companies have to be prepared to change with it, because if they won't, other companies will.

Yes I'd be interested to know how much business they have lost through the striking stunts at Christmas. What an own goal! folk had to use other providers and probably thought oh hang on, other couriers are better. Often 7 day delivery and actual tracking that is a bit more explanatory than the royal mails's 'we have your package' 🙄

Not watched what?

He's not my CEO. I've never worked for Royal Mail.

The workers have the power to come to work, do their work as instructed and get paid for it. The same as anyone else.

The company is heading down the toilet, you can't have the employees wanting one thing, the customers wanting another and the employees winning out. Not when there are other companies that are more than prepared to work in line with 21st century lifestyles instead of being stuck in the 1970s.

SerafinasGoose · 29/01/2023 11:38

The question is moot in any case. There are no more futile words in the English language than 'if' and 'should'.

The union balloted for strike action and received upward of a 50% turnout and a majority 'yes' vote. They are striking.

And there are a lot more unions where they came from. They're also coordinating strike days so we are seeing something as akin to a general strike as today's anti-union legislation will permit.

These strikes are as much about conditions as pay. The greedy/exploitative employers could put a top to this tomorrow. They haven't, and this is an issue that should be taken up with them.

wildpeaches · 29/01/2023 11:38

@MarshaBradyo aww did that word hurt your little feelings so much that you had to report it? Bless you. If you don't like the thread you can always leave. But yet here you are again and again and again posting on it. Weird that. Do you want to discuss the shit show that is RM or are you just going to carry on being silly?

No I replied and said I didn’t care about your random anger on the internet

I also didn’t report but it shows someone else thinks you’re being OTT and aggressive.

Universal delivery should be scrapped, there is absolutely no need for it in 2023.

The government should not be getting involved in this.

Let the public decide. The company that operates the most efficient and well run delivery service will win out. That is definitely not Royal Mail with it's bolshy employees who think the company should be run for their benefit, not the customers and not the owners. They will be the first ones to go, they won't be able to compete with the streamlined, modern delivery companies.

So you think the poor & people who live in rural areas shouldn't have a postal service?
The need for a universal postal service is just as important as ever.

As for modernisation, have you ever been in a modern sorting office? there are no inefficient practices that are 40 or 50 years old, modernisation has been going on in RM for decades.

Have look at the many threads on courier companies that deliver to the wrong address, don't deliver, lose letters and parcels, through things over walls, leave in dustbins....

For the elderly and house bound, the postie often provides a crucial social service too.

Like so much in the UK, should never have been sold off.

wildpeaches · 29/01/2023 11:44

@MarshaBradyo honestly you have no idea what real aggression is if you think it's comments on a MN thread. Carry on trying to shut down the discussion here though, with your hysterical cry's of 'aggression' and 'anger'. Good luck in life.

Like I say you got deleted not due a report from me. That was your doing nothing to do with me.

I’m fine with life thanks but I like to hear from various people not just those who insult other people the most.

RM got back lost business because companies like EVRI are useless.

RM tracking works as well as anyone else's dependent on what you ve paid for.

We can get RM deliveries 7 days a week & thats rural south west.

Florenz · 29/01/2023 11:49

The vast majority of what happens in a sorting office could have been automated at this point and yet they still have people sorting through mail with their hands - ridiculous.

The companies that fail to deliver properly will go out of business as people won't use them.

The postman as a "social service" is a thing of the past. The milkman used to do the same thing, we don't have milkmen any more because of competition, the milkman couldn't compete once they stopped having a monopoly on milk, now Royal Mail don't have a monopoly on mail the postmen need to make sure they aren't made obsolete like the milkmen were.

Neededanewuserhandle · 29/01/2023 11:51

Not when there are other companies that are more than prepared to work in line with 21st century lifestyles instead of being stuck in the 1970s.
21st century lifestyles - year on year pay cuts, fake self employment, impossible targets, zero hours. Why does the race to the bottom always get shoved onto ordinary workers in the UK and USA?

dogdaydown · 29/01/2023 11:54

@Florenz honestly watch your CEO! It's well worth it!

G_

It'll show you a bit of the other side, it's really enlightening!

I really don't believe you've not seen it, I'm guessing you're just denying because it's embarrassing!

Most is but people don't always use printed labels, have great hand writing, so humans have to do it.
Also rural postcodes (if people even use them) covers a large area, its not possible to use automation.

No, the postie isn't a thing of the past, for many, its the only interaction they have and the postie may be the only person who will see that mail hasn't been dealt with.

An example of RM modernisation, with support from staff.... www.abps.org.uk/royal-mail-pilots-barcodes-on-stamps/#:~:text=The%20barcodes%20will%20ensure%20that,colour%20matched%20with%20the%20stamp.

BTW i'm all for competition but what exactly is the point of it, if it leads to low wages, more claiming in work benefits in order just to live & more traffic on the roads?

wildpeaches · 29/01/2023 12:07

@Florenz

The postman as a "social service" is a thing of the past. The milkman used used to do the same thing, we don't have milkmen any more because of competition

This statement is complete nonsense. But it just laments again how little you know of the situation. YOU may not rely on posties for social needs/interaction, many many others do. YOU may not have a milkman, but they do still exist. I have a milkman. My elderly parents & relatives have one. Many many rural communities still have a daily milk delivery man. Just because you don't personally use services doesn't mean they a) don't exist anymore and b) shouldn't exist for the use of others less fortunate than yourself.

Neededanewuserhandle · 29/01/2023 12:10

My postwoman goes way beyond the call of duty - sings for stuff on my behalf - leaves stuff safe in the greenhouse round the back if I'm not there - she is already doing way more than the minimum standard. I doubt she is paid a fortune and I have no desire to see her converted to the Amazon delivery people - never the same person twice, rude and in one case stuffed a parcel into the gate rather than even coming near the house. I would always rather have a RM delivery than the others.

Neededanewuserhandle · 29/01/2023 12:12

Thatcher's children right there - no such thing as society, fuck everyone else, me me me (especially if you are already wealthy).
