To think Royal Mail workers should not be striking

They’ve already been offered a 9% pay raise and declined. Royal Mail is already making a loss. It’s a national service for the public which is now being severely disrupted by strikes, it’s appalling.

Is this a letter that the union sent to him or just something which you wrote?

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Conkersareback · 27/11/2022 20:29

@Hitthehighseastoday maybe you should join a Union?

Union is strength

the ones who can do Sundays should. The company is not obliged legally to do this I don’t think but maybe they could negotiate separately with the workers that can’t work Sundays and have a credible reason
Wonder what a credible reason might look like and what happens if your circumstances change.
You must be a spineless walkover, if you would let your employer make significant changes to your employment t&c without so much of a peep.

I’m not spineless. But I’m not ruthless. I’m not cold hearted and mean. I do have compassion, even demonstrated this in the work place on multiple occasions.

@Hitthehighseastoday the cwu union have wrote

Fair enough. The thing is though, the strikes are affecting customers, and if the strikes keep going on then customers will use royal Mail’s competitors instead which will put the members (the unions members) jobs in danger again

They did. They called off strikes over 2 weeks if I remember right, as RM bosses were promising to come to a settlement of some sort just before a meeting /report to shareholders. (Bit fuzzy on details but gist is correct.) RM then faffed around enough to be able to give a positive-ish "we're making progress" talk, then promptly stopped turning up to meetings and reneged on things they had previously agreed on.

Hence strikes restarting.

Lancrelady80 · 27/11/2022 20:34

Should have quoted:

But the union should call off strike action at the same time while speaking with the company.

ivykaty44 · 27/11/2022 20:36

The thing is though, the strikes are affecting customers,

that is the whole idea about a strike - withdraw labour

if the new terms and conditions of the job mean you'd be out of a job, what would you have to lose?

Hitthehighseastoday · 27/11/2022 20:36

Royal Mail haven’t covered themselves in glory here but neither have the union.

@Hitthehighseastoday if the ceo has his way customers are going to be effected anyway! He doesn't care about the customers or he would be meeting us round the table for negotiations and putting an end to these strikes! He wants rid of us all, like p&o so he's digging his heels in.

If he agrees to negotiate then the union would call off the strikes.
Do you know he sits on the workplace app antagonising employees? By posting passive aggressive pictures of his watch on his wrist, outside cwu building? And selfies of him sitting in his car?
What ceo behaves like that!?

You’ve only quoted half my post.

Honestly there is no point discussing anymore with the OP. A case of in one ear out the other going on here.

This is such a serious allegation though which needs to be backed up with evidence unfortunately otherwise it could legally be considered unfounded at best, potentially defamatory at worst. As wrong as that is it’s how the law works

Hitthehighseastoday

I didn't think the rest of your post was really worthwhile repeating

Hitthehighseastoday · 27/11/2022 20:40

The thing is though as well, Royal Mail haven’t actually broken the law in what they are doing yet.

@Hitthehighseastoday go on to the cwu Facebook page and you will have all the evidence you need! He's not trying to hide it! I'm not making anything up! Everyone who is on the workplace app has saw the pictures. I'm sure Simon Thompson is aware people can see it.

Royal Mail haven’t covered themselves in glory here but neither have the union.

And neither have you! With your lack of knowledge are your ludicrous examples of your work hours changing, as you'd been promoted and agreed different hours!

Conkersareback · 27/11/2022 20:44

@Hitthehighseastoday financial, what sector do you work in?

What have any of those qualities have to do with standing up for yourself and your right to fair working conditions.
Can only imagine you have been beaten down by years of this awful Tory government, who won't be happy until we return to a time when us working folk knew our place.
The Royal Mail's USP should be they are an ethical employer and set the gold standard for other delivery companies, not join in race to the bottom.
