To think Royal Mail workers should not be striking

They’ve already been offered a 9% pay raise and declined. Royal Mail is already making a loss. It’s a national service for the public which is now being severely disrupted by strikes, it’s appalling.

A lot of things used to be a good job but the world changes. People aren't reliant on letters anymore and there are many companies that deliver parcels. The RM are in a good position as they hundreds of years of history and the Royal Warrant. But they still have to compete. If the post people keep going on strike and refusing to change their hours and how they work, customers are just going to go elsewhere for a cheaper and better service.

@Hitthehighseastoday why did he have to go into detail? He suggested to speak to postal workers about the threats, he clearly didn't want to get into a slanging match and be unprofessional but stated the threats when pressed.

Because unfortunately without going into detail his point lacks credibility

@LucilleLou by OP and others saying unskilled workers deserve fuck all? Not sure, perhaps tag them and ask them?

I agree nasty bullies, but that's life, they think the working man/woman man deserves fuck all.

I was referring to your comments actually, you are coming across as a bully

MarshaBradyo · 27/11/2022 17:44

People supporting the strikes or not doesn’t do much.

It’s demand a private company responds to. A politician might take it into account but we support via buying services or not

LucilleLou · 27/11/2022 17:45

Hitthehighseastoday · 27/11/2022 17:42

Where have I said the working man/woman deserves fuck all?

That’s what I was wondering too

Stillbrokenby2022 · 27/11/2022 17:46

I’d love to know what other company delivers letters to every address in the country 6 days a weeks ….

Yep the snobbery on this thread is unreal!
My dad is a postman too and very well educated. He took the job thirty odd years ago so he could look after me and my siblings and let my mum go out to work in the evenings...it was a family friendly, family focused job then whilst the field he studied in wasn't. He's a very hard working man and he doesn't deserve this treatment, nor do any the other wonderful posties.
Changes and modernisation is one thing but this isn't on, so much more than it being about pay.
As a female postie I also don't feel comfortable walking the streets at night, delivering mail in the dark. I finish for three but these changes mean I will be finishing much later.

Conkersareback · 27/11/2022 17:47

@LucilleLou not really! By saying is OP a direct descendant as thatcher, she comes across as an Iron Lady (I use the term lady very loosely!), she's taken one sentence, posties are getting a 9% pay rise, they're not......

Not bullying, stating facts to an ignorant poster.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 27/11/2022 17:48

It’s their call but lots of companies are going over to other couriers. They are gonna kill their business

Thebestwaytoscareatory · 27/11/2022 17:48

Florenz · 27/11/2022 01:37

I worked with, not directly for, RM a few years ago, when they were trying to open up more income streams, one of the things they planned was for the RM vehicle workshops to start doing servicing, repairs etc for other companies, it didn't go through because the mechanics refused to do it and threatened industrial action. You can't run a business like that.

Missing the point of thus thread slightly but, that is a shockingly appalling idea for so many reasons.

The very fact that, not only did someone senior in the company felt confident enough to propose it, but that it was taken seriously tells you everything you need to know about the ineptitude of those running royal mail now.

Making a loss? Perhaps the chief exec shouldn't have taken a bonus of £142K this year then.

Nope, I support the postal workers. I'm not one myself but good luck to them.

This!!

Honestly the vitriol towards strikers is disgusting!

I can tell you.... none!

And now they're going to the government and asking for the USO to be revoked!

I am hoping that even the scum bag toured will realise that's not on!

7upandup · 27/11/2022 17:50

@Hitthehighseastoday he did go into detail, as much as he could in a short interview. He stated what those threats are. His interview didn't lack credibility. If you need more credibility do what he suggested and ask the postal workers or wouldn't you believe them because you've made your own mind up about the strike.

Bullying imo and still continuing to bully!

Tbf Royal Mail has done that too in past. Then it’s hard to get justice due to their link to the crown

Florenz · 27/11/2022 17:55

There's no real demand for letters nowadays. The demand is for parcels. The letters 6 days a week to any address in the UK is a massive millstone around the neck of RM.

Exactly people will have enough to say when they only get their letters 3 days a week at most, although those of us that know how busy it is realise what this will mean.

I wouldn’t put it passed him he loves a bit of social media 😂

Conkersareback · 27/11/2022 18:02

@LucilleLou ok, whatever!

What's your view on the RM strikes?

Florenz · 27/11/2022 18:03

Stillbrokenby2022 · 27/11/2022 17:56

Because they are committed to delivering a service that is extremely expensive to deliver, but there is no great demand for anymore. Email and other forms of electronic communication have long since replaced letters for essential communication.

Strange how it’s so busy if there is no demand for it 🤔
