Black Friday Massive Discounts

Venetiaparties · 24/11/2022 08:28

I have become extremely cynical about Black Fridays and sales in general when stores wheel out their unsold tat and mark it down fractionally expecting us to snap it up with abandon, years ago I stopped bothering.

But my goodness the sales this year for Black Friday have been amazing. I have saved hundreds buying my xmas presents yesterday and today, genuine savings. I am trying to now organise a few things for birthdays for next year because the prices are so good.

I am worried though. Retail must be expecting some very hard times in the near future if they slashing prices by this much. I am not complaining though.

I can’t say I agree really. I’ve never seen anything that wasn’t a discount you could get weeks before or after anyway.

Busytimes · 24/11/2022 08:44

What are yr best bargins ! ?

JaniceBingALing · 24/11/2022 08:46

Where are these bargains? Everything that was on my list which has been discounted appears to have had its price hiked up first.. I could have purchased about 70% of it cheaper a few months ago.

OneFrenchEgg · 24/11/2022 08:49

Really - it's just been a shit ton of emails promising 30% off selected ranges for the entire week. Would save £20 probably on an artificially increased price. Most annoying is odeon whose deal is a £20 voucher rather than a reduction but not if you are buying limitless as a gift.

Venetiaparties · 24/11/2022 08:50

Make up from John Lewis 20% off
White Company 30% off and just brought lovely gifts with gift bags
Hackett 30% off work shirts
Ralph Lauren 30% dh's Christmas present

I have actually saved hundreds of pounds of presents I was going to buy anyway

Fedupofdiets · 24/11/2022 08:53

The white co is only advertising 20% off how come you got 30%?

Iknowthis1 · 24/11/2022 09:04

Anything I was interested in isn't a genuine discount. It was cheaper last month.

BrioNotBiro · 24/11/2022 09:08

I need a new telly but I can't see anything this week that I couldn't have got for the same price earlier. I'm wondering if it's worth hanging on for any January sales.

😂

I have to say you sound like an advert.

John Lewis marketing department intern, is this you?

LadyKenya · 24/11/2022 09:10

Yeah, not convinced. I will wait for the January sales, ta!

OneFrenchEgg · 24/11/2022 09:11

It's not really based on the need to get rid of stock or anything is it. I think in America it was genuine clearance whereas this is an artificial marketing event

Muggeridge · 24/11/2022 09:12

I got a great deal on aromatherapy associates got one of those little boxes of all the different oils reduced by 30 quid to 50 quid

Afterfire · 24/11/2022 09:13

A lot of those things are hugely overpriced, I wouldn’t be buying them even with those discounts but if they’re things you were going to buy anyway then well done you’ve got a bargain!

Nepoyeah · 24/11/2022 09:13

I think it’s more an indication of the general public being terrified of energy/mortgage price hikes and therefore doing no discretionary spending!

In the bigger picture, it begs questions about how sustainable / desirable economies based on mass consumerism really are in the long term.

in the short term, it signals serious distress from retailers which will lead to liquidations and job losses next year.

cash flow is king!

JaceLancs · 24/11/2022 09:14

Only bargains we have had so far are Lego up to 25% off - I too have bought for birthdays next spring
I’m also looking for a new big TV for work if anyone sees any bargains

LadyKenya · 24/11/2022 09:15

This! There has to be a change. The planet cannot sustain this rampant consumerism.

*Make up from John Lewis 20% off

White Company 30% off*

The white company is only 20% off and you can easily get a discount code from 10-15% any other time so 5% extra is hardly worth planning your life around.

Again, branded high end makeup is usually cheaper from other places anyway or you can use a discount code for places like feelinique or collect extra points if you buy it from boots.

Good for you OP, ignore anyone trying to piss on your parade. I got some gorgeous things on White Company too but no doubt I’ll be called a liar or company rep too.

Pompomsfantastix · 24/11/2022 09:39

I have always been very cynical and dismissive pf BF but I have noticed in the last couple of years that the prices do bounce back up afterwards. And i think it does make sense to keep your eyes peeled for bargains at this time of year with so much expense in the month ahead of us. (rather than consumption for consumption’s sake iyswim).

I got my h to buy me a bag from antler for Christmas as 30% off and I’ve bought some winter boots and coats from h and m for the kids with 20% off. JL also for pressies and I always buy my cosmetics from there. Often, the electrical/tech sales are massive too but I can’t say I’ve noticed.

Some are just carpet baggers or borderline scams, some just early sales, but many are genuine flash sales.

Maybe, but I know what I want, and will not part with a penny more than what I wish to.

artishard · 24/11/2022 09:46

Shameless BS marketing for an awful product. 'Real colour' as a selling point ffs.

Visited the website for it to inform me that several products 'now back in stock!' As if any human in their right mind would have purchased 4-8 hard seltzers for such an extortionate cost.
