@FayeGovan you are not funny.

Everyone else that clearly don’t want to say this invaluable personal information , you don’t need to post in an aggressive way like you are 5 years old.

I certainly didn’t come here to brag and I think my salary is average.

I think the average salary is actually more like 25k. Hope that helps.

Well this makes me feel lousy so far.
Notice how nobody on 20k-35k comments. Which I daresay is a good third of the population if not more

Why lousy? My salary history:

2007- had first baby aged 20
2009- 13k (admin)
2011 - 20k (junior advisor)
2011/12- paid approx £1k level 3 qualification
2013 - £25k (advisor)
2013 - paid £2k for foundation year at uni
2014-2016- paid £3k x 2 years (£6k total) for level 7 post grad qualification)
2016: £40k (manager)
2016: had second baby. Took 4 months Mat leave.
2017-2018 - paid £5k for masters in a specialist subject
2018: £50k (head of department)
2020: £60k (head of department- moved companies)
2022: £75k (Director)

Inertia and staying with the same employer often stops your salary progressing quickly and women are statistically more likely to stay for flexible working reasons. I've worked really hard and invested my own time and money in my professional development. I made sacrifices in terms of family life that lots of people wouldn't, and that's fine. I was back at work before my baby could crawl. Was it worth it? I don't know any different so I can't answer that.

I'm always interested in these threads. Fascinating to see which industries earn more/less than you think, and how others in my industry are paid.

I don't understand why pp get upset. We all know some people earn more than we do ourself surely. If it upsets you to see that written down, ignore the thread and leave it for those of us who are interested.

And I also don't see how it's bragging when it's done anonymously.

MrsKrankyPants · 20/11/2022 19:48

40ish - somewhere around there. 32k call centre. Been here for a long time. Newbie's get a lot less.
Also not manager level, no time for that shit.

Lot of HR people in tonight! What exactly is the role in HR that has a £70k salary?

35, £55k plus bonus (5%), Chartered Surveyor (estates surveyor - retail)

I'm a legally qualified HR director. It's a shot job, made shittier by people being completely dismissive of your job and considering you completely useless until they want to raise a grievance when you suddenly become their counsellor...

Early 30s, slightly over £100k, education (Exec). I also have my own business, which doesn't bring in a huge amount but I enjoy it, and rental incomes (DP mostly manages those, it's not a big interest of mine!).

4 years ago my salary was about half what it is now, I don't get what value it has to know what others earn, but okay. 🤷‍♀️ I earn less than DP but I don't feel bad about it, although it would be easy to - and I do wonder if this thread will make some people feel bad when they shouldn't.

No you don’t. No one is that Ill informed. And the whole ps mum of 2! Is all show offy. I genuinely signficantly out earn you and am a mother, I’m not going to say my salary and would not dream of starting a thread like this.

it’s time to grow up

Gosh! Please go for a run, have a bath, a glass of wine, anything! You have so much pressure and you need to unwind…

Deep breaths and all will be fine!

And it’s not a bragging thread. I don’t earn over 100k

Reasons why threads like this shouldn’t be written off:

  • the taboo around women and pay needs to be broken. Men talk about pay ALL the time. I work in a male dominated environment and topics of conversation are: football, cricket and MONEY. Guess who’s better at commanding a higher salary in the industry?
  • it gives people a broad idea of what some industries pay relative to others, and can help those deciding on a career / contemplating a career change.
