My child is in year 11 and aged 16. They have asked if they can go on holiday abroad with 4 friends (2 male, 2 female) and stay in one of the friends parents apartment. There will be no over 18 present on the trip.
I was interested to know what parents with kids this age think? Would you allow your teen to go? This will be after exams are finished.

I wouldn't be comfortable with that

Comefromaway · 20/11/2022 13:11

No, I wouldn’t allow it.

Donepaying · 20/11/2022 13:12

No

Liz1tummypain · 20/11/2022 13:13

Nope

polkadotpixie · 20/11/2022 13:13

I went to Reading Festival at 16 but I'm not sure, maybe but more likely at 17

ILIWYS · 20/11/2022 13:27

I have a DD a similar age and I think it's too young and they'd be too far away if there was a problem.

Porcinimushroom · 20/11/2022 13:29

No. I’d not permit this.

caramac04 · 20/11/2022 13:30

I wouldn’t be comfortable, I would feel a bit naive at that age and therefore a bit vulnerable out in a foreign country. You know your dd best but I think you’re concerned hence your post.

Everydaywheniwakeup · 20/11/2022 13:31

I'd be reluctant, but also aware of double standards because I went abroad with friends after my GCSEs. I suspect it would end up as a no.

HermioneWeasley · 20/11/2022 13:32

Not at 16

drpet49 · 20/11/2022 13:32

Nope, I wouldn’t even consider this.

RandomPerson42 · 20/11/2022 13:33

No way until 18.

FallingsHowIFeel · 20/11/2022 13:34

Straight after GCSEs, my son had a holiday with friends at our holiday home. It wasn’t abroad though but was a long drive from us. He didn’t go abroad with friends til 18.

I probably would have let my son go though as long as the others going are sensible. Once GCSEs are done, I didn’t really say no to anything really. He went to festivals and gigs, not always coming home. I only asked that he let me know he was ok and if he wasn’t coming home as planned that he text to let me know. He’s sensible and independent and I think allowing him to do these things was good for him. It depends on the kid though, how mature and what the friends are like.

Newrumpus · 20/11/2022 13:35

Where abroad?

PurpleButterflyWings · 20/11/2022 13:35

No WAY would I allow that. Nope.

mamabear715 · 20/11/2022 13:36

No, sorry..

ErinAndTonic · 20/11/2022 13:36

I did this as a kid but all girls. There was a whole rigmarole beforehand with parents meeting etc and it was my mums holiday apartment. Three girls all 16/17. Mixed sex though.. probably not!

NuffSaidSam · 20/11/2022 13:36

No, I wouldn't allow this until 18.

Augustlou30 · 20/11/2022 13:36

We all went in holiday the summer we left school so most were 17/18. I wouldn't allow it before this no. It's only one more year x

Crackof · 20/11/2022 13:37

Not abroad. Hard no.

OrangePomander · 20/11/2022 13:39

UK yes, abroad no.

Notimeforaname · 20/11/2022 13:40

Depends where. How long for, what the area is like and what theyre like themselves.

Overthebow · 20/11/2022 13:41

I went abroad with friends with no adults at that age. Because of what went on there’s no way I’d allow my DC to do it.

knittingaddict · 20/11/2022 13:42

No. Too young by at least a couple of years.

MrsSlavere · 20/11/2022 13:42

No, not abroad, until they're 18.
