Christmas Quandry

DH runs a joinery business and we live in a small town, not in the UK. We have a small holding with animals and a pretty nice life.

Earlier this year I became pregnant for the first time. It was quite unexpected but we’re both happy about it. I’m currently 8 months gone and due around Christmas.

Last week DH announced that we would be spending Christmas in his home town rather than here. It’s not to see his family, apparently it’s for some administrative reason that means the baby has to be registered there. I’m really unhappy about having to travel but accept that this is necessary.

Whats made me really annoyed is DH’s laid back attitude to planning for this. I asked him how we were getting there (we don’t have a car) and he just shrugged. When I pushed it he pointed to the donkey we have on the smallholding and laughed, which I hope was a joke. When I asked him about whether he’d booked a hotel, especially given the time of year, I got a similar response - he said we’d just try our luck when we arrived.

AIBU to say this is not really acceptable given the circumstances? I’m tempted
to just make the arrangements myself.

You are at least one month too early with this joke.

ohidoliketobe · 19/11/2022 08:57

Cute

Queequeg07 · 19/11/2022 08:59

Every year.

squashyhat · 19/11/2022 09:07

LTB and make the real father step up.

Testina · 19/11/2022 09:09

The minute I realised I was pregnant without it being my choice, I’d have headed to a clinic in Nazareth for an abortion. 🤷🏻‍♀️

MandyMotherOfBrian · 19/11/2022 09:09

Well, if you’re going to lie to him about paternity, what do you expect?

TrashyPanda · 19/11/2022 09:11

Hilarious

rainbowstardrops · 19/11/2022 09:16

Blimey I'm slow at spotting these! 🤣

reallyworriedjobhunter · 19/11/2022 09:16

Air BnB? Some nice barn conversions around there.

Santagiveyoursackawash · 19/11/2022 09:19

I wouldn't be expecting any gifts never mind 3 with the postal strikes though. ...

Clarinet1 · 19/11/2022 09:20

Well point out to him how many other people will be coming home for their administrative obligations and see whether you can at least reserve a stable.

CatGrins · 19/11/2022 09:21

How can grown adults have time for this shit?

Mamette · 19/11/2022 09:26

The idea is rubbish but the execution is worse.

“I became pregnant” er… you missed a bit there

Skatewing · 19/11/2022 09:27

CatGrins

Some people can be very effective with their time leaving them time for personal pursuits.
I suggest a self help book on time management if you are struggling. 😉

TiaraBoo · 19/11/2022 09:31

Why not make the arrangements yourself, what year are you living in?!!

SeasonFinale · 19/11/2022 09:33

Again?

cypresstree · 19/11/2022 09:34

not funny, not even vaguely amusing

howmanybicycles · 19/11/2022 09:34

I think you probably should have mentioned that you're a teen mum. This might have helped people understand why it is so hard for you to make these plans yourself. I wouldn't worry too much though. I have a feeling that the birth is going to end up going pretty well and be followed by some kick-arse celebrations. Just make sure to be persistent with hotel booking. If the first hotel says they have no rooms, just keep knocking on doors. Someone will have somewhere for you to stay.

PinkiOcelot · 19/11/2022 09:35

FFS! Yawn.

Yours does not sound like a stable relationship. Follow your guiding star and pray for a miracle. .

SendARavenToRiverRun · 19/11/2022 09:52

I laughed OP 🙂.

dudsville · 19/11/2022 09:59

I'm not religious, so not overly familiar with the story, and it's never dawned on me to wonder why they were traveling at that time. Was it really to have the baby registered in his home town?

EscapeTheCastle · 19/11/2022 10:01

Live at the Apollo, right here folks.
