Christmas Quandry

DH runs a joinery business and we live in a small town, not in the UK. We have a small holding with animals and a pretty nice life.

Earlier this year I became pregnant for the first time. It was quite unexpected but we’re both happy about it. I’m currently 8 months gone and due around Christmas.

Last week DH announced that we would be spending Christmas in his home town rather than here. It’s not to see his family, apparently it’s for some administrative reason that means the baby has to be registered there. I’m really unhappy about having to travel but accept that this is necessary.

Whats made me really annoyed is DH’s laid back attitude to planning for this. I asked him how we were getting there (we don’t have a car) and he just shrugged. When I pushed it he pointed to the donkey we have on the smallholding and laughed, which I hope was a joke. When I asked him about whether he’d booked a hotel, especially given the time of year, I got a similar response - he said we’d just try our luck when we arrived.

AIBU to say this is not really acceptable given the circumstances? I’m tempted
to just make the arrangements myself.

I think you just need to trust him. But it's not really his fault that the tax system works the way it does.
I also think that if you go along with his plan, that you'll end up with some brilliant presents.
Have you a friend who is also pregnant? To a much much older man? After a long period of infertility? What does she make of it all?

Changemaname1 · 19/11/2022 10:05

Is he even the father of this baby ??

Also it took me untill the very last line to clock on 😅

I'm not religious, so not overly familiar with the story, and it's never dawned on me to wonder why they were traveling at that time. Was it really to have the baby registered in his home town?

The OP got that wrong in her story, “It’s not to see his family, apparently it’s for some administrative reason that means the baby has to be registered there.”

The trip to Bethlehem was nothing to do with the baby. It was - according to the Gospel of Luke - because of a census for taxes, called by the Romans. There’s conflicting reports of whether it’s corroborated though.

OP - get your story straight 😉

OnlyFannys · 19/11/2022 10:06

I just dont get how people think they are being funny, it's so cringe

dudsville · 19/11/2022 10:10

Thanks @Testina ! And we don't all share the same humour @only, i enjoyed the post!

I enjoyed your earlier post, Skelligs ;-) Lot of huffy moaners on here. Lighten up, people!

CovertImage · 19/11/2022 11:19

Bit of an over the top reaction there

HikingforScenery · 19/11/2022 11:25

It went right over my head until I saw the first comment.

I was going to say just make the arrangements 😆

It was for a census.

Do you think?

What do you think is the appropriate response to people being deliberately unpleasant?
Seriously? The OP posted an innocuous, perfectly pleasant thread that was gently humorous. It might not be to everyone's taste but normal, polite adults could be expected to click away and look at something else that interests them, if they don't like it.

Instead we get people being really purposefully rude and unpleasant.

Why?
It happens all the time on here lately and it makes me really angry. Is this the kind of society we have become?

Notarealmum · 19/11/2022 11:39

It made me smile anyway…..

Believe it or not you have to read the thread to know it's a wind up and a waste of time. Also you calling someone a bitch and telling them to fuck off in one post and then moaning about unpleasant posters in the next is a bit much. I think you need to calm down and work on yourself a bit to have such an intense reaction to a fairly innocuous comment you are clearly a bit unstable. I've reported your post because its downright abusive and a total overreaction to what I said. Grow up.

Skelligsfeathers · 19/11/2022 11:45

Of course it is a wind up!!!! It is a joke about the birth of jesus and how mary might have felt!!!!

Why did YOU feel the need to comment about 'cringe' the op was? Why did you sit and think " i am going to post something to make the op feel small?"
I am not in the least unstable, just sick of people thinking it is ok to be mean and unkind for no reason

MissyB1 · 19/11/2022 11:57

OP I think you should get advice from 3 wise men on this matter.

Because with all of the bloody troll posts and zombie threads at the minute I am sick of clicking on pointless, time wasting threads. Its perfectly reasonable to state you find this annoying, what is not reasonable is calling someone a bitch and telling them to fuck off over it.

Also I dont know why you singled me out and sent a message with such vitriol when loads of other posters had already said they didnt find it funny, that's just bullying. If you wanted to say you thought it was unkind to the op you could have done that without the nastiness and personal attacks, I am a real human being as well you know and it's very hurtful to have such disgusting, abusive comments thrown at you for stating you down like something. Absolutely no need and the hypocrisy of you saying "would you treat someone like that in real life", would you hurl abuse at someone in real life because you disagreed with them?

But it is not a zombie thread or a troll post and you didn't state that you found it annoying. You deliberately tried to make the op feel bad.
You were not the only one- there were lots of people being mean girls

Do you do it in real life?

It's on par with a troll post to me. And do you swear at strangers in real life?

Skelligsfeathers · 19/11/2022 12:04

Yes- if someone was deliberately being unkind , i would tell them to stop being a bitch.

You just don't like being called out.

Toddlerteaplease · 19/11/2022 12:04

Christmas does not start until after dark on 24th December. It's advent till then.

Sorry wrong thread!
