Why can't we insure?!

HmmmHashtag · 18/11/2022 18:53

Right. Buying a Toyota Hilux and absolutely no fucker will insure, except a few companies who will insure for £99 per month.

WHAT IS GOING ON?!

A lot of places refused point blanc. Thing is we NEED a pickup for our lifestyle (animals)

Phone one and ask?

DelurkingAJ · 18/11/2022 18:54

It’ll be based on the claims profile of that car. If it’s outside of risk appetite then a company won’t quote. Might be worth trying a broker.

Egarag · 18/11/2022 18:55

Impossible to say without knowing all the relevant information. You’re best off asking one of the insurers over the phone.

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 18/11/2022 18:55

Too many variables. Recent claims? Postcode? Age of vehicle? Age of driver? Recent test pass? Medical restrictions from DVLA? Trying to get 3rd party or fire and theft? Just been living abroad? Cat C/B/A passed off as roadworthy?
So. Many. Possibilities.

lanbro · 18/11/2022 18:57

I have a Mitsubishi L200, insured through aviva for about £40 a month, have you tried other makes of pick up, is it specifically the Hilux that's being refused or pick ups in general. Are you looking at van insurance rather than car?

wetpebbles · 18/11/2022 19:08

Adrianflux insured ours

Adrianflux insured ours

Unfortunately they wanted an obscene amount per month

Orangesare · 18/11/2022 19:40

Pick ups are really in demand atm and older versions are being stolen to sell abroad, mainly in Ukraine as they are buying pick ups. Others are broken into spares and sold.
4x4s have always been expensive to insure but I would expect a bit cheaper than £99 a month. Try nfu, marsh commercial and Adrian flux.

TakeYourFinalPosition · 18/11/2022 19:42

It’s been in the news recently that a few different car models are now really difficult to insure. I think a Hilux was one of them; but we don’t have one so I wasn’t paying a massive amount of attention.

Insurance companies are allowed to choose who & what they insure, at what rates; so the only option you have really is to either see if you could get insurance on a similar but different car… or go ahead with a quote you can get. It might be worth trying a broker if you haven’t already. Adrianflux tend to be recommended a lot for difficult circumstances.

It’s a van. You need van insurance.

Newnamefor2021 · 18/11/2022 19:46

Try Brentacre. They are specialist insurers. I've been with them for years and years. You have to call them but i find them great

Never heard of them! I look into them tomorrow. Not adverse to ringing anyone, I've spent 4 hours on the phone and Internet today trying to sort this

Dreikanter · 18/11/2022 19:50

What kind of “animals” lifestyle require a Hilux? (TBF, Toyotas have long been the butt of the joke about being shipped out to war zones).

Cyderdelic · 18/11/2022 19:51

Ive got a Mitsubishi Pajero LWB so not entirely unlike yours. Many wont touch big 4x4s, but ive used Privilege, Kinetic and now on Lancaster all at around £250 per annum. My Partner has his Toyota Landcruiser insured through National Farmers Union, so worth checking that out too. Both of our cars are well over 25 years old so was a problem finding reasonably priced insurance.

Needcoffeeimmediatley · 18/11/2022 19:52

Just reinsured our Hilux today with admiral for £57 per month

Gwtw10 · 18/11/2022 19:59

Try van insurance companies. A hilux is classed as a commercial vehicle.
