Why can't we insure?!

HmmmHashtag · 18/11/2022 18:53

Right. Buying a Toyota Hilux and absolutely no fucker will insure, except a few companies who will insure for £99 per month.

WHAT IS GOING ON?!

A lot of places refused point blanc. Thing is we NEED a pickup for our lifestyle (animals)

I totally get what you mean about ringing. I hate it too. But they are good! I've had three vans insured with them now. They are based on Swansea, which I am too so I find the fact I don't have to spell everything useful.

I pay about £350 ish a year for my van and the quote from Adrian flux is always £900. Most transports and transit drivers seem to use one of the other. They are pretty well known in van groups.

CMOTDibbler · 18/11/2022 20:00

Have you tried the NFU?

lieselotte · 18/11/2022 20:01

Both of our cars are well over 25 years old so was a problem finding reasonably priced insurance

Is that because they are considered to be expensive classics?

GallbladderWoes · 18/11/2022 20:02

Cyderdelic · 18/11/2022 19:51

Ive got a Mitsubishi Pajero LWB so not entirely unlike yours. Many wont touch big 4x4s, but ive used Privilege, Kinetic and now on Lancaster all at around £250 per annum. My Partner has his Toyota Landcruiser insured through National Farmers Union, so worth checking that out too. Both of our cars are well over 25 years old so was a problem finding reasonably priced insurance.

Thank you, this is a new vehicle. I looked at NFU but needed a quick answer which they didn't seem able to do!

Just reinsured our Hilux today with admiral for £57 per month

We keep getting knocked back as have got a Truckman Canopy on the back!

Try van insurance companies. A hilux is classed as a commercial vehicle.

I've been doing it as a van on all sites

GallbladderWoes · 18/11/2022 20:05

Dreikanter · 18/11/2022 19:50

What kind of “animals” lifestyle require a Hilux? (TBF, Toyotas have long been the butt of the joke about being shipped out to war zones).

Working dogs. Lots of them

CMZ2018 · 18/11/2022 20:05

My hilux is with LV

Shlomping1234 · 18/11/2022 20:06

Definitely try Adrian Flux. They knocked £100s off the lowest quotes I got online.

I've stated twice that Adrian Flux quote was extortionate

Thank you! I rang them and they were incredibly rude, like they couldn't be arsed so I hung up. Sad because I've had LV before and been happy

I wish, we use ours for what they are designed for and are rattly and old (mine cost less than 3k), but they are great cars, no more getting stuck in mud for me and handy to be able to stuff it in a hedge if the road is too narrow to park safely on

HmmmHashtag · 18/11/2022 20:10

I appreciate that my other user name keeps cropping up, please I've spoken to Adrian Flux today and they wanted a ridiculous amount.

It's a 2021 and all we are adding is the Truckmam canopy, very common thing to do

We had issues because they are massive 4x4s AND old. Privelege were great, was with them for a couple of years but Lancaster beat the renewal quote by quite a bit this year. Good luck!

Ooh not heard if either so something to explore thank you

Swampthing55 · 18/11/2022 20:12

I would thinks that's the going rate then if they all are quoting the same.

DelurkingAJ · 18/11/2022 20:12

So insurance pricing is based (primarily) on the data a company has on claims. The number of pricing factors will depend on the company. Some will use 90+ factors that will include vehicle type. And they price to make money. So if a certain type of vehicle is frequently stolen then (on average) it will cost the insurance company more to cover that vehicle so your insurance costs more.

The non industry person would be amazed at what matters and what doesn’t (I’m told we don’t care about garages because too many people lie about keeping their cars in one so it doesn’t affect the claim profile…same with mileage). Insurers care a lot about driver age, car type and home postcode. They used to care a lot about sex but that was banned by the EU years ago (anecdotally back in the day we added me to now DH’s insurance as I’d moved in and his premium went down because every minute I (25, female) was driving it he (23, male) wasn’t!).

Disclaimer…I’m in the industry but not in Pricing.

QuestionableMouse · 18/11/2022 20:13

Just tried a random one and Hastings are quoting me £40/m.

Have you tried a comparison website?

Fascinating! We are 40-50, live in a super safe rural area, no previous claims, no convictions. Its been so crazy being turned down by so many companies today!

I’ve only ever dealt with them over the internet but I’m surprised. My circumstances sound similar to yours I’m paying just over £500 this year.

NFU insure thousands of pick ups for farmers

Hastings won't insure, I went through the whole system and they said no. This has happened with a lot of companies today. No idea why!

Tried loads of comparisons websites but they can't follow through because no one wants us!

I've managed to get insured via Direct Line Business Van cover but it was £88 per month!

I just do not understand why everyone was so reluctant
