Why can't we insure?!

HmmmHashtag · 18/11/2022 18:53

Right. Buying a Toyota Hilux and absolutely no fucker will insure, except a few companies who will insure for £99 per month.

WHAT IS GOING ON?!

A lot of places refused point blanc. Thing is we NEED a pickup for our lifestyle (animals)

Another weird thing at the moment is that second hand car prices are on the up (or were earlier this year) which means that damage and theft claims are suddenly much more expensive because replacing the car is more expensive. Companies are also pricing in remnant inflation as if it’s 12% for the year a £1,000 bent metal claim today will cost £1,120 next year…so premiums are on the up. (Interestingly the bodily injury inputs into your premium are going up more slowly because wage inflation is less than goods inflation).

DelurkingAJ · 18/11/2022 20:22

Rampant not remnant!

Rubyfw5 · 18/11/2022 20:25

This is a non stealth brag, it's a big brag. I insured my 2009 diesel Astra this year for £86.20, for the year. Shop around!

This is very interesting thank you

I have had 2 cars stolen, now we pay £90 a month for each of our cars!

I live semi rural but close to a big city, think nice villages with picket fences and mid range cars. There was about 3 burglaries a day for cars at one point within the first half of my post code, it’s insane the amount of cars being stolen from
rural/semi rural areas, but if you think about it there are no cameras etc and it’s dark roads.

I just have to accept it’s what I need to pay, none of the main insurers will touch us so have to find the best policy with a bunch of firms that I have never heard of, and have trust pilot ratings of 2 or less.

we are going back to one car in April next year and I can’t wait

Haha love it! I HAVE SPENT 4.5 HOURS TODAY calling companies and filling in online forms

I've managed to get insured via Direct Line Business Van cover but it was £88 per month!

I just do not understand why everyone was so reluctant

You got me thinking so I’ve just done a comparison website quote - cheapest was snnug at £373 had 39 quotes highest was £775 - I don’t understand it, but glad you’ve got sorted.

girlmom21 · 18/11/2022 20:38

@GallbladderWoes what did the company you speak to say about why the costs are so extortionate?

Can you buy a different vehicle?

TheHateIsNotGood · 18/11/2022 20:40

Posted too late, tbh it's a pretty new vehicle at 2021 with a truckman canopy so pretty desirable, with a bit of oompf in the engine and carrying dogs and no doubt other stuff too. So £88pcm seems a not bad deal in the scheme of things.

HmmmHashtag · 18/11/2022 20:46

APOLOGIES FOR THE NAME FAILS GUYS

Not too late, when you put it like that it makes a bit of sense. Thank you. Just infuriating that 90% won't insure it but won't say why!

They said because they're "specialist"

No, we've already bought this one.

NFU Mutual would have been able to help no problems at all. Thousands of customers have Hiluxs/Navaras/L200s etc....not available online but a phone call to your local agency and you'd be sorted

Dreikanter · 18/11/2022 21:16

Are you looking to insure for business use or social domestic pleasure plus commuting?

My employers (rural country estate) use NFU so I’d recommend a call to them to talk it through. A Hilux with a truckman must be very common given what I see locally (lots of the estate vehicles fit the bill).

HmmmHashtag · 18/11/2022 22:07

Thank you to last 2 posters, I'll look at NFU, like you say a pickup with a truckman top is NOT unusual especially in rural areas! The mind boggles! It's been quite a day!

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 18/11/2022 22:29

I was just coming on to say to try NFU Mutual. They're not on comparison sites but you can call and get a quote. They insure loads of agricultural vehicles.

ChristmasisRuined · 18/11/2022 22:59

Sounds like it's been written off

ChristmasisRuined · 18/11/2022 23:04

@HmmmHashtag Once you've been refused insurance, I'm pretty sure it shows up on some internal database. Same as if insurance is cancelled. A bit like a credit rating. So you being turned down for multiple insurance quotes won’t be helping

fatbottomgirl67 · 18/11/2022 23:08

Nfu does our hilux. Never the cheapest but always good at sorting claims

Elphame · 18/11/2022 23:37

Try the specialist team at A Plan in Bletchley Milton Keynes.

They are excellent for "difficult" cars and have covered my heavily modified cars for me for years at very good price.

Elphame · 18/11/2022 23:38

Has to be Bletchley though! Ordinary A Plan are hopeless.

CheesenCrackersmm · 19/11/2022 00:56

Isn't this something you usually check before buying the vehicle?

araiwa · 19/11/2022 02:06

How many doors does it have?

Many standard insurers won't touch a 2 door as they class it as a commercial vehicle. 4 doors will be covered by standard insurers
