Yes I’m posting in Aibu because this is causing ww3 in my house currently.

yabu: 4 is plenty.
yanbu: 4 is a child portion.

People saying 2-3 is an adult portion 🤯
You get 3 in a. Happy meal!
I'd say 4 or 5 for me usually. Don't think 6 is unreasonable :)

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 19/11/2022 20:37

I'm rolling my eyes at the 'obesity frothers' but agree with AgeingDoc's post very much.

I can eat a plateful of fishfingers - and sometimes do. 8 or 10. I don't eat sides with them I eat 'properly' most of the time - and I don't do a 'fishfinger feast' very often. I relish every single one of the little orangey fuckers though.

This thread was mostly nice and chatty in places and I've loved the photos and descriptions of strange (to me) accompaniments to the glorious fishfinger but, as per, the likes of the obesity-howlers spoil any thread they rush to post on.

I have added a box of 30 to my Tesco shop in honour of this thread. Grin

I beg to differ. My loaf from the bread maker accommodates five with ease. This sandwich was actually my dinner on the first night this thread was running. And that’s extra light mayonnaise.

@TwoRockSalmonAndAHaporthOfChips Where's the tartare sauce?

Katemax82 · 19/11/2022 20:53

My daughter has at least 5. My 16 year old has 6/7

Florenz · 19/11/2022 20:58

What is the portion size given on the nutritional information on a packet of fish fingers?

Capers are the devil’s haemorrhoids and can get in the sea.

Birdseye does for 4.

Birdseye does for 4.

As discussed throughout the thread.

Again, hope everyone has the 110g of chips and 80g of peas only as well😂 15g of ketchup can be added.

And remember no more than 200g of baked beans at once too! Same goes for spaghetti hoops.

Florenz · 19/11/2022 21:26

if everyone stuck to the recommended portion sizes there would be less obesity.

But what if, like me, you have ginormous hands?😂✊👋

Shanda5 · 19/11/2022 21:29

I'd have 3

BosaNova · 19/11/2022 21:32

Tbf it's not that hard if I think about it.
I could have recommended portion of the fish fingers, chips, beans, bread, butter (for oeas and bread), ketchup, mayo, maybe throw in corn. Yeah. Could do that. Keeping with recommended portions.

Ooooor. People could use common sense and do, bigger portion of that, smaller of other, have lighter lunch or dinner instead of the two extra fish fingers and so on.
Maybe we should be encouraging that

defi · 19/11/2022 21:38

None eat actual fish instead

Florenz · 19/11/2022 21:52

Fish fingers are "actual fish". Minced and reformed into finger shape and coated in breadcrumbs or battered, but still actual fish. Some people can't afford to buy a full fish as they are quite expensive nowadays.

Birdseye does for 4.

That sounds about right.

The people on here who eat a full pack of 10 or 12 fish fingers in one sitting, (and the ones cheering them on for it,) who are mocking and deriding people who eat 'normal' or slightly lesser portions (like 2 or 3) are massively projecting, and are hilariously defensive. I suspect that deep down, they feel the amount they eat is too much, and they're trying to quell it by mocking people who eat less. Very telling. Wink (They will deny this of course.)

The vast majority of people who eat less have not criticized people for eating more. Yet the 'bigger eaters' are trying to belittle the people who eat small portions. As I say, very telling. I often eat smaller portions when I am out for an evening meal with my work colleagues and DH's work colleagues. (We go maybe 5 or 6 times a year with them.) I get at least 2 or 3 people every time commenting on it, asking what is 'wrong' with me, why I am eating a 'child's portion,' and asking if I have an eating disorder. So unbelievably fucking rude and ignorant and presumptuous. (Friends rarely say anything.)

I never EVER say anything to them about what they are eating, or how much they're eating, yet the big eaters always have something to say to ME because I eat half of what they eat. Again, very telling. Projecting, defensive, and deep down thinking I am making them look bad by eating less.

I will say to the people on here (mocking smaller eaters,) the same as I say to the people who comment on my eating smaller portions when I am out with them... 'stop projecting your issues onto me.'

Lunar270 · 19/11/2022 23:55

Like I said. 8 fish fingers here. BMI 19. I’m also a competitive athlete so definitely healthy too :)

Being a competitive athlete makes a slight difference 😂

For the rest of us mortals 8 is probably too many but appreciate we're all different.

I only eat the jumbo M&S ones. Last time I only had one and that was fine. Put in a bun with homemade tartare sauce, wedges and slaw on the side. Fine for someone that just does 5k's for fun.

ALongHardWinter · 20/11/2022 00:17

One.

Lunar270 · 20/11/2022 00:26

Yep, just one, although being jumbo you only get 4 in a packet. I cooked two thinking I'd have both but just ended up having one.

But I eat off a side plate so says a lot!

Other than running 5k's 2-3 times a week I have a sedentary desk job so don't need many calories

You could just have said you prefer 1 -2 fish fingers? 😆

DuncanBiscuits · 20/11/2022 08:14

This thread is MN in a (very tiny) nutshell.

I myself couldn’t eat a whole fishfinger, and I eat all my meals off a plate from a doll’s house. That’s ok though, because I only do one ultramarathon a week.

Speakingmymind · 20/11/2022 08:15

You may not say anything but, from your post, I bet they are in no doubt how you view them for eating such 'humongous' portions

I actually don't even think it's undereating. More like plate balancing. Have 1 but more sides, or 6 but little sides.

I can't find the jumbo one, can someone linked please?

BosaNova · 20/11/2022 08:42

Adult eating child's portions will of course be out of standard and get attention. Though no one should be suggesting ED just like that or be rude about it. But unless someone is 140cm, 39kg, half portions will simply standout.
