Yes I’m posting in Aibu because this is causing ww3 in my house currently.

yabu: 4 is plenty.
yanbu: 4 is a child portion.

OP what a great post. I had 8 fish fingers earlier and was also wondering what a normal adult portion would be. I refuse to believe anything less than 6 is acceptable. I could honestly eat a full packet in one go. I actually took a photo of my dinner tonight because it was particularly amazing, I’ll drop it below. It was one of my greatest meals and I’ll probably have it again tomorrow

Nice work 😁

Oblomov22 · 17/11/2022 22:08

This is irritating because it's repeated endlessly on MN.

I wouldn't dream of serving less than 4 to anyone, no matter what the sides.

PurpleButterflyWings · 17/11/2022 22:09

3 here. With a small dollop of creamy buttery mash, some parsley sauce, and some petit pois. YUM! 😋

I am NOT trying to say 'oooh I only eat 3 and you're a greedy fucker if you have 4 or more' by the way! Not at all! Just saying I eat 3, as that's all I want/fancy.'

Anyone making snide and sarcastic comments, towards the people saying they have just 2 or 3, (instead of 4 or 5 or more) well it sounds like you're projecting quite honestly.......... Wink

Woah that's some fish finger love going on there!

Respect.

Getting flashbacks to DD2 regularly eating 8 of the things, oven chips, peas, mayonnaise, ketchup and complaining that she only had ice cream for dessert.

Nine years old. Still wearing a t-shirt (albeit very cropped at that point) and shorts that said 'Age 18 months'. 95th centile height, below 5th centile weight, as she had been since birth. She finally reached 5 stone just before her 12th birthday.

Even the serving size on the pack, whilst it claims it's 2 portions of 5 fingers weighing 140g, only contains 81.2g of fish. So near enough half a fish portion. No wonder she persuaded me to start buying fillets (or whole fish) and adding a coating myself.

CourtneeLuv · 17/11/2022 22:37

Yeah, right.

😮

Zero. This is kid food. I would have a proper portion of fish. Or only the beans, I hate the thing to be honest.

Boooooot · 17/11/2022 22:54

There’s no such thing as kids food. Food is food.

What exactly makes this kids food and different from a larger fillet?

to answwe your question @Boooooot i will need to conduct an experiment but I reckon 5, but only because when I do fish fingers I always have them in a sandwich.

wobblyweasel · 17/11/2022 23:01

I don’t know where most of you are getting their fishfingers from, to only be content with 3/4. They’re minuscule! 6 on my plate with whatever I’m having with them, and 4 cooked for later for a fishfinger sandwich. Massively greedy? Without a doubt 😂

tiger2691 · 17/11/2022 23:01

6 to 8, depends on what else you're having with them. 4 in two slices of bread (preferably Burgen linseed and soya), slightly warmed in the microwave. English mustard, spread on top of the fish fingers, add sliced cheddar (not grilled), close the sandwich. The best fish finger sandwich out there.

thewolfandthesheep · 17/11/2022 23:03

I actually don't know. But this is an interesting thread. There could potentially be ww3 in my household for a different reason : if I saw an adult veering towards the direction of the fish fingers, I would snap and say " what I you doing ? It's for the kids". So that got me thinking. An adult size of fish fingers would mean over 5. Quite a lot anyways.

QueenBeex · 17/11/2022 23:10

I'd have 6.

BlackeyedGruesome · 17/11/2022 23:13

3

PickAChew · 17/11/2022 23:13

MelchiorsMistress · 17/11/2022 18:38

With chips and beans three is enough. That would be plenty for children and most adults in my experience, the people who would need more are larger adults or teenage boys.

5/6 seems really excessive.

Why? It's about 100g of fish. Hardly a large portion.

PickAChew · 17/11/2022 23:18

Winterfires · 17/11/2022 19:42

Even more controversial is how do you cook them, oven baked or fried.

Air fryer or grilled.

cruisin2022 · 17/11/2022 23:38

I’d have 3-4, DH would have 4-5.
kids would have 2.

Krabapple · 18/11/2022 00:01

Dh would have 10. I would be okay with 4 as long as plenty of chips and bread.

booksandcaffeine · 18/11/2022 00:04

I'd go for 5/6... then again I tend to go for 5/6 sausages too. 🤭

FHmama · 18/11/2022 00:05

My two year old has 2-3 fish fingers 😳😅 I'd say at least 5 for an adult

MrsAvocet · 18/11/2022 00:09

A pack of 10 serves the family here. When I had 2 kids at home it would be 3 each for DH and the 2 boys and 1 for me. Now DS1 is at University the split is 4-4-2. (Sounds like a football formation 😂)

What? You give children separate food? That seems really odd, unless you’re weaning them. I can’t think of a food that’s just for kids, unless you’re giving them processed crap. What’s wrong with fish coated in breadcrumbs and fried? That was a staple of growing up, albeit I lived in mainland Europe as a young child, but don’t think things are that much different?

Lillysmamma · 18/11/2022 03:39

We have 2, but judging by the responses I am being unreasonable and my DH is right I am starving him when I serve that up! I hadn’t really thought about it much before this thread.
