It's not competitive undereating when the only reason they eat only 2 or 3 is the rest of the plate loaded with chips and beans😂

Or you follow your 2 fish fingers, chips and peas with a pudding of a banana then a Magnum in front of the telly 😂

Spookypig · 18/11/2022 05:14

Do adults eat fish fingers? 😂

Tiani4 · 18/11/2022 05:23

YABU
4 fish fingers for adult / big teen
3 for child
2 1/2 for smaller child

With Plenty of vegetables

Tiani4 · 18/11/2022 05:30

What? You give children separate food? That seems really odd, unless you’re weaning them. I can’t think of a food that’s just for kids, unless you’re giving them processed crap.

That wasn't aimed at me as this first comment in this thread but... Hmmm

Bit unnecessary this "faux" shock , of course on occasion adults eat different to young children.

We rarely eat fish fingersas a family tbf as it is kiddies food . Same as waffles, processed chicken nuggets, mini sausages and alphabeties are. Sometimes my DCs might ask for them specifically, I might join them or might eat something different. Sometimes they don't fancy tofu curry and I do. It is possible to put a separate item in the oven! Or I can eat leftovers from another day.

I do eye roll at some MNers comments... PP being so judgy but clearly also disingenuous

No faux shock here. I don’t see fish fingers as ‘kids food’, or mini sausages (often have these as canapés!), not sure what alphabeties are. Like I said in my post, I didn’t grow up in the UK so it may have been different. We don’t really have children’s menus, just a smaller adult portion. Not everyone has the same upbringing along as you, and people also think differently, so you can save your eye rolling - your comments were also pretty ‘judgy’.

4 because that’s what fits one a slice of bread. We had fish finger sandwiches (and chips) last night as I was working late. DS (13) made his own before I got home and had 6 (with chips and gravy the weirdo!), DH had 4 and I had 3 as I sacrificed 1 so the dog could have 2 😳 but then the bread to fish finger ratio was all wrong.

CourtneeLuv · 18/11/2022 07:24

MrsAvocet · 18/11/2022 00:09

A pack of 10 serves the family here. When I had 2 kids at home it would be 3 each for DH and the 2 boys and 1 for me. Now DS1 is at University the split is 4-4-2. (Sounds like a football formation 😂)

And we have a winner 🏆

6 for an adult but we don’t do fishfingers for the adults. We do 4 or 5 for our 9 year old and a battered/breaded big fish for us. I’m actually going to stop buying fishfingers and just give DD the battered/breaded one that we have. As she’s at an age now where she will eat it. And fishfingers are getting ridiculously expensive round here

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 18/11/2022 07:41

thewolfandthesheep · 17/11/2022 22:51

Zero. This is kid food. I would have a proper portion of fish. Or only the beans, I hate the thing to be honest.

What a weird attitude to have towards food.

Tangerineartichoke · 18/11/2022 07:54

I don't eat them but my DH will usually have 5. But he's been known to put much more on if he is really hungry. He will usually make one for the cat too.

I am woth that poster tbh. Also grew up on continent and always shake my head at the "kids" food attitudes here while people simultaneously moan that their kids are picky eaters and eat only beige plus parents doung "i am so tired of cooking different meals😭".
Adults eat food, kids get fed ultra processed biege while being expected to later like other food. It's odd🤷🏻
even our kids menus were not a special thing (still aren't outside of tourist places) a were just simply half portions of normal food.

PurpleButterflyWings · 17/11/2022 22:09

3 here. With a small dollop of creamy buttery mash, some parsley sauce, and some petit pois. YUM! 😋

I am NOT trying to say 'oooh I only eat 3 and you're a greedy fucker if you have 4 or more' by the way! Not at all! Just saying I eat 3, as that's all I want/fancy.'

Anyone making snide and sarcastic comments, towards the people saying they have just 2 or 3, (instead of 4 or 5 or more) well it sounds like you're projecting quite honestly.......... Wink

I don’t care if people eat 3 or 33 but if you make snide remarks about how you could only possibly eat 3 cause more is greedy BUT then go on to list your side dishes, then you’re just being silly and deserve to be poked fun at. 😁

You've doubled your fish finger intake just because your DC is at uni?

How utterly indulgent!

Tiani4 · 18/11/2022 08:38

@Proamble
Oh give over!! Your post was judgy and you're miffed to be called out on it "noooo.. you are..." My post was perfectly reasonable response to your original awful one.

There's far more people doing the middle ground, you make so many assumptions. It's never one extreme or the other.

My children eat the same food as adults most of the time but like any human being sometimes they don't like something specific. Having a choice they sometimes instead ask for fish fingers, mini sausages, (ie the easy cook processed type food) that another poster called kiddie food. Sometimes they eat that in their own other times we all have it, not often

Luredbyapomegranate · 18/11/2022 08:41

I haven’t eaten a fishfinger in years so this is educational.

But I am thinking maybe one of the breaded haddock things might be more filling and cheaper for you.

Fifthtimelucky · 18/11/2022 08:42

I haven't eaten fish fingers for years but when I did I'd have three and give the children two, so I confess I'm surprised by some people eating 5 or 6. However, the number is no indication of greed, in my view, because so much depends on what else is on the plate.

I'm in my 60s and I wonder if it's a generational thing. I would always expect to fill up on the cheap aspects of the meal (eg the potatoes) rather than the expensive ones.

WaddleAway · 18/11/2022 08:45

Fish fingers are really expensive for the meagre amount of fish you actually get in them.

Luredbyapomegranate · 18/11/2022 08:48

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 17/11/2022 22:59

What exactly makes this kids food and different from a larger fillet?

to answwe your question @Boooooot i will need to conduct an experiment but I reckon 5, but only because when I do fish fingers I always have them in a sandwich.

Just there isn’t as much fish so it’s not as filling as a breaded haddock type thing.

That’s all I’d mean by it anyway

ToGanymedeAndTitan · 18/11/2022 08:50

I've voted YABU as before seeing your answer I was going to say 4.
4 for a portion, and I'm usually a greedy oink 😁

CourtneeLuv · 18/11/2022 08:51

I only eat fishfingers nowadays when I'm hungover.

FF, waffles or smileys, beans and shitty white bread and butter. Washed down with cherryade preferably, and cake and ice cream for dessert.

I'm not looking for nutritional content with this meal.

Energypanic · 18/11/2022 08:56

I have 8 with half a tin of beans and a handful of chips. I only eat one meal a day though so I prefer larger portions of protein and not much carbs in order to stay feeling full. I'd be starving after only 3-4 within a couple of hours.

Choconut · 18/11/2022 08:56

According to Birdseye it's 4 for an adult and two or three for a child. If I have them then i tend to have them for lunch and so would only have a couple as not my main meal, I have Young's ones though which I think are bigger.
