Yes I’m posting in Aibu because this is causing ww3 in my house currently.

yabu: 4 is plenty.
yanbu: 4 is a child portion.

Even more controversial is how do you cook them, oven baked or fried.

SpongeBob2022 · 17/11/2022 19:43

Haven't read all the comments but Birdseye say that a portion for adults is about 4 and for children it's 2 or 3, which is probably what I would do.

I could eat more than that but would more likely bulk up with chips and veg...the fish fingers are the most expensive bit so eating close to a whole pack seems terrible value and psychologically any more than 4 would seem excessive but not really sure why!

I only eat 2 sausages as a portion..maybe that's another thread.

I have 3 and I'm a bat fastard!

9 year old also has 3, DH has 4.
Then your 9 year old must be fucking massive.“

Don’t be daft! 170 calories is hardly going to make a 9 year old massive.
hope you were joking (hard to tell by text).

Sitdownnigel · 17/11/2022 19:43

Presumably the pp who suggested 2 was talking about the huge Waitrose ones?!!! No?
Normal ones, at least 5-6 per adult. At least.
My very skinny 13yr old can put away 6 no problem…….with chips and a bun and peas.

SpongeBob2022 · 17/11/2022 19:43

Grilled!

I prefer oven baked

I’ve just done mine in the air fryer. 9 minutes. Two thick slices of home made multigrain bread. Mayo. Watercress.

EatingPeanutButterWithASpoon · 17/11/2022 19:44

Just had fish finger sandwiches for dinner with chips and veg. Four fish fingers in two slices of bread for DH and I, two for 2yo and one for 11mo no bread for them.
Four is plenty with bread, probably enough with chips and beans maybe 5 or 6 for DH if no bread and hungry.

Winterflies I'd whole heartedly agree which makes you wonder why an adult woman eating the same makes her a 'fat bastard'.

WimbyAce · 17/11/2022 19:46

When I had fishfingers I used to have 5 or 6. For kids I would say 2 or 3.

I just took that part to mean she is fat 😁

Hobbitfeet32 · 17/11/2022 19:46

I fry them. They taste better. An active 9 year old having 3 is perfectly acceptable.
I suspect many of the undereaters are either very inactive or have some disordered eating going on.

Nicewarmfeet · 17/11/2022 19:46

Dd has 2 (5years old) I have 3 mainly because that means one pack does two meals.

CantStandMeow · 17/11/2022 19:46

4 is the best number for a fish finger sandwich. Salad cream for me please

ABBAsnumberonefan · 17/11/2022 19:46

4 as a butty 😋

Of course I'm joking. But I wonder why the adult eating 3 is therefore a 'fat bastard'.

Ooh, I don’t have a airfryer, do they turn out well?

CourtneeLuv · 17/11/2022 19:47

I haven't rtft, has anyone said they can only just about manage one, yet?

theonlygirl · 17/11/2022 19:47

Zero. I absolutely detest the buggers.

FreakyFrie · 17/11/2022 19:48

4 for adults
2 for kids.

redbigbananafeet · 17/11/2022 19:48

Winterflies if that was the case I'd think she'd say 'I only eat 3 because I'm a fat bastard and trying to lose weight so only eating children's portions' x

Nope, 6. Aldi tiger bread, 5 vertical, one horizontal. Perfect fit 😄

FaazoHuyzeoSix · 17/11/2022 19:49

2 for a young child, 3 for an older child or an adult who is being health-conscious. 4 for a hungry adult. But we do buy quite substantial fish fingers and I have seen quite pathetically little ones so if you wouldn't describe your fingers as chunky you might add one to each category. What does the packet say about serving size? A serving of fish is supposed to be about 180g ish.

With chips and beans I’d have 3 and I’m both overweight and a bit piggy.

anymore is massively greedy.

A pack of birdseye fingers is 10 with a total weight of 280 grams. The NHS website says a portion of fish is 140 grams. Therefore 5 fingers would not be ‘greedy’ as you say. Or perhaps you are still stuffed from your massive salad 😂
