General election tomorrow - who do you vote for?

IaminRome · 15/11/2022 19:12

I'm so sick of this government and reading a lot of the posts on here, it feels like on the one hand, so are lots of people, but there are also lots of other people who are very sceptical about labour or lib dem or greens. Added to which, there are so many issues at the moment, I know there's a lot of GC and what makes a woman, that is particularly important at the moment, and cost of living, private rentals, the environment, etc etc

So knowing what you know about the parties, if there was a general election tomorrow, who would you vote for..

YABU - Tories
YANBU - Labour
Comment for a third option

I used to be green, but I'm so not sure any more. So I think I'd vote labour, to stand best chance of keeping Tories out. (What I'd really like to vote for is a more representative government)

Tactical voting here. I would vote Lib Dem.

I live in a Tory heartland, literally no point in me voting for Labour.

Our voting system stinks. I would like PR and everyone has to vote (like Australia) even if spoil your paper or vote for 'none of the above'

As a woman i can’t vote Labour or Lib Dem until they work out the difference between a penis and a vagina.

Would you vote Conservative then @DustyLee123 ?

If so then I'm interested to know if you are happy on what they've achieved for women over the last 13 years and also what you think of how they have tackled transgender issues during their recent years in power.

As a woman it doesn't feature at the top of things to worry about when I decide who to vote for.

I'm far more concerned about a host of other issues.

Labour on the basis that our local MP is a good one and does a lot of good things for his constituency. Not voting labour here is pointless anyway but at least he’s good. I did the same last time despite that idiot Corbyn being his party leader and this time despite that idiot Starmer being party his party leader. As a side note, for all those saying they won’t vote that’s effectively a vote for the current government IMO.

I agree, not voting is voting tory. Why would you do that?

Fandabedodgy · 27/05/2023 17:09

Labour

Time to oust both the SNP and the Tories.

humblemeep · 27/05/2023 17:09

Hummusanddipdip · 27/05/2023 16:49

I would spoil my ballot paper, there is no point voting for any of them they're all incompetent, useless charlatans.

I wouldn't abstain because I'm a big believer in you've got the right to vote use it, if you don't, you've waved your right to voice your opinion on politics.

And spoiling your ballot paper is different to not voting in what way?

ilovesooty · 27/05/2023 17:11

humblemeep · 27/05/2023 17:09

And spoiling your ballot paper is different to not voting in what way?

In some marginal constituencies a large number of spoiled votes could result in a Conservative win

humblemeep · 27/05/2023 17:11

Unfortunately, as usual, the tories will pay vast amounts to spread propoganda about labour and influence the public. There's a reason why the BBC and the press are largely owned or paid for by conservatives.

humblemeep · 27/05/2023 17:12

@ilovesooty I agree, it's just handing a vote to the tories and wasting people's time. Why do that?!

AuntieSoap · 27/05/2023 17:12

Lib Dem. They're the only alternative to the Tories where I live, and I'm very impressed by Daisy Cooper.

Mangogogogo · 27/05/2023 17:13

i probs won’t bother voting tbh. Cba to go down just to spoil my paper, ain’t got time for that shit and I’m not really that mad about any of it I just can’t decide so I’ll opt out!

asking on here is a bad representation though. Last election I looked on here and EVERYONE was voting Labour, I saw Labour signs everywhere and people chimed on at me to vote labour so I thought this is a deffo Labour and tories got in. I just realised Labour voters are just louder than Tory voters.

for context I voted Tory last time

Yes this for me too.

I think it will be Lib Dem for me, but I'm not fussy.

It's not as if either of them could be any worse

My feelings exactly and I think a lot of people share this view currently.

Here are some links to begin to answer your question -

On ending violence against women and girls
https://labour.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Ending-Violence-Against-Women-and-Girls-Green-Paper.pdf?1

On improving the situation at work for women
https://labour.org.uk/page/a-new-deal-for-working-people/

Lots more on their website including NHS reform, childcare reform, environmental improvements.

So they're making it a hatecrime to call a man a man and they are making things that are already illegal really really illegal this time pinky swear.

stuckdownahole · 27/05/2023 17:29

I think it's time for the Conservatives to have a spell in opposition. Last time they lost in 1997, it was a punishment from their voters (who outnumber staunch Labour voters) for losing control of interest rates on Black Wednesday,

This time around it will be a punishment for inflicting the vain show-off Boris Johnson on the country. He spent his time under David Cameron trying to push himself centre-stage and then found his opportunity by becoming the leading light on the Brexit side which boosted his profile sufficiently that he was heavy favourite to be the new PM when Cameron stood down. Then he bottled it.

He let poor old honest workhorse Theresa May struggle on in vain for two years after she basically lost an election, then picked his moment to sweep in, save the day, win a majority, three cheers for Boris. He couldn't handle governing in hard times, lied, refused to obey his own rules, refused to resign and instead created a victim narrative which led to the Tory membership rejecting the more competent and honest person who eventually brought him down. Instead, they elected a deluded Apprentice candidate who did an almost impressive amount of damage in seven tragi-comic weeks. Then the prick had the audacity to try and come back!

The Tory MPs could have stopped this. The Tory members could have stopped this. It's not like no-one imagined what would happen when you put an overgrown child in charge. They didn't stop it. They deserve to lose.

@FKATondelayo What planned legislation is this please?

How have the tories got a great track record on women’s rights???? Madness. Labour voter here - not perfect but we need the Tories OUT! They’ve killed the NHS and the economy and are working on education next!

I don't think anyone is saying the Tories have a great record.

The reality is that Labour, LDs, Greens and SNP will destroy the notion of women's rights even being a thing in relation to actual biological women, because to them being a woman is an identity not a scientific reality.

It is THAT bad that the Tories are the least bad option by a long way even if they are also sh*te!

coffeerevelsrule · 27/05/2023 17:34

Labour. I always do but this time would vote anyone to get the Tories out, which in my constituency is Labour anyway. I've always voted Labour, (I'm 47) bit with varying degrees of enthusiasm. This time I'm doing so very happily. I think KS has done a great job of lifting the party up from the shit position Corbyn left them in. He needs to set out his stall now and I'm sure he will do - already seen signs. Think he's trying to be clever with the women thing and, while I have concerns, am sure the majority of women are safer with Labour.

Make Misogyny a hate crime. Page 8. Including 'gender' in that category.

Colourfingers2 · 27/05/2023 17:57

pointythings · 27/05/2023 16:18

@Colourfingers2

They didn’t actually cause Covid to be fair and without the furlough and bounce back loans an awful lot of people would have starved to death through not being able to earn a wage.
Can you imagine Keir Starmer and his party being able to organise something on that scale.
Yes, I can. He's had a real job in the real world, unlike most of the Tories. What the government did was common sense and was replicated by governments of all colours across Europe so there is zero reason to think Labour would have done anything differently - and they might well have done better on track and trace (by following the German model) and the provision of PPE (by not handing out contracts like sweeties to enrich their already wealthy mates).

The man is incapable of making a decision. It was labour that set up Sats and Ofstead
Ofsted was set up under John Major. Maybe look things up before making wild accusations? SATs were rolled out between 1991 and 1995, also under John Major.

as well as bringing us into not one but two illegal wars in a decade.
The Tories enthusiastically supported them. In fact the only dissent came from within the Labour ranks, the Lib Dem ranks and the SNP ranks. It was a bad decision, but you cannot claim the Tories would have done differently.

And what did that accomplish apart from making us a target for islamic terrorism straight after reaching a peace agreement with the IRA.
The Good Friday Agreement was a massive achievement though, which happened with cross party support.

Labour is the party of tax and spend and debt and bankruptcy.
This is a myth.

I wouldn’t trust them to organise a prayer in a monastery.
No politician can be believed or trusted, they haven’t known what the truth is for a generation at least.

Plus the two party system is anything but democratic. One in power and one opposing them then after a few years they swap. C’mon people it’s time for a massive change after 400 years of the same thing isn’t it?
On this I agree with you. We need PR so we can have a broad range of new political parties across the whole political spectrum in a system where every vote counts.

But maybe do a bit of wider reading before you decide who to vote for?

There’s always someone who thinks they know everything that person is the type of person who is so unable to get through 24 hours without conflict that they try to pick pointless and futile arguments on social media with people, total strangers, they don’t even know, have never met & will never meet who have better more interesting things to do with their lives that always move on when their point is made because they do not approve of being contradicted.

storminamooncup · 27/05/2023 17:58

Labour, who are the best chance to get our SNP MP out.
Conservatives have little chance of winning here and I hate the SNP more than I hate the Tories!
So Labour, even though they don't know what a woman is.

FKATondelayo · 27/05/2023 17:49

Make Misogyny a hate crime. Page 8. Including 'gender' in that category.

This is in response to the Law Commission recommendation to protect women from misogyny as that is not included in current legislation.

Transgender identity is already included along with race, religion, disability and sexual orientation under the current legislation.

There's always someone who can't accept reasoned rebuttal with a degree of maturity as well.

I won’t vote. I’ve always voted Tory but can’t bring myself to next time round. However I also have 2 DC at private school and can’t afford the 20% VAT in school fees. If it wasn’t for that specific, niche policy, I’d vote Labour.

If you voted for the conservatives you are to blame for the shit that is governing us now!

I mean Boris Johnson!! The ones before were bad enough but who the hell votes for a proven liar

LakieLady · 27/05/2023 18:06

I'm in a Tory/LD marginal constituency, so I vote LD, but I'm a Labour supporter.
