Weight Loss Gone Unnoticed

Ok so this is light hearted but was just wondering why none of my friends/relatives have noticed I've lost weight?
I started quietly dieting & adopting a healthier eating regime in March this year after weighing in at 12 stone 6lbs. I'm now down to 11 stone and nobody except DH has even noticed!!!
He says it's probably because I'm tall and so isn't that obvious. But I've recently met up with 3 different friends who I haven't seen since either last year or for several months and nothing, nada, zilch...I've lost a stone & 6lbs for goodness sake😂
I can certainly see a difference so was just wondering why nobody else can!

Would you be happy for them to say ‘oh wow you’ve gained weight haven’t you!’ ? why would the reverse be ok? you’re pleased with yourself but it’s tricky for other people to know what’s appropriate to say. a lot of people wouldn’t want any comments passed on their weight.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 13/11/2022 23:36

I agree with the posters who don't like comments and wouldn't comment on other people's weight loss/gain without being prompted by that individual themselves.

I drop weight when I'm stressed/unhappy and I hate it so much when people comment. It's usually well-meant but why? Why do people have to blurt out whatever thoughts are in their heads? People who know me know that I wouldn't want my weight commented on. People who don't know me that well, why is it their business?

It is awful how much and how often people observe others and comment on their weight. If somebody doesn't mention it themselves then kept quiet.

Congrats though OP! Grin

If you're tall, people probably never considered you overweight, anyhow. Many people also (quite rightly) assume it to be rude to comment on someone's weight or appearance, uninvited.

Cw112 · 13/11/2022 23:40

Maybe they recognise that commenting on another persons body is rude and unnecessary especially if uninvited? I remember someone in my work commenting on how fab a person looked having lost weight- they were battling cancer and then felt obliged to explain that. I think if you'd told them you were dieting / trying to be healthier in your lifestyle they'd probably compliment you and encourage you.

Your BMI has moved from normal to normal so I'm not sure anyone will notice much.

You've gone from slim to a bit slimmer.

Eat less move more. I calorie counted and walked Smile

Some years ago my mother complimented the milkman on his weightloss while giving him his cheque..."Yes, I've been too stressed to eat much since my wife left".😬

I read (on here) that

1 stone-you notice,
2stone-your friends notice,
3 stone+, everyone notices.

hban · 03/03/2023 23:22

im quite tall, people commented around 2.5-3stone

hban · 03/03/2023 23:23

When people notice it’s all of a sudden and it’s everyone you see. Whereas you only weighed a few pounds different the week before and no one commented. It’s strange.
