Mine are:

Feature Walls
Pampas Grass
Crushed Velvet
Hanging Lights - all on the same beam
Shiny furniture

My house is white and I love it - contrasted with darker wood, artwork, plants and colour from things like cushions etc. and to some that’s absolutely boring and that’s ok.

@Beammeupdude My wardrobe finds your opinions OFFENSIVE and has challenged you to a duel.

RedDwarfGarbagePod · 14/11/2022 21:44

I also love lava lamps. Not even in an ironic, I-had-one-when-I-was-too-young-to-know-better way. I just love them. So blobby. I might have to add one to my Christmas list.

Laurendelaney1987 · 14/11/2022 21:44

Every bloody house we have moved into has had woodchip on the wall (and Jarvis never has been round to call)

seriously, the hours we have spent trying to get it off.

this time; we’ve just painted over it in the hope that one day it will come back into fashion

Decorhate · 14/11/2022 21:53

@Laurendelaney1987 I stayed in a v nice hotel a few years ago & the walls definitely looked like they had woodchip painted white. It wasn’t an old hotel either If you look closely…

Beammeupdude · 14/11/2022 22:18

I accept and a slap your wardrobe with my glove.

LexMitior · 14/11/2022 22:24

Further disclosure - lava lamp was kept and now in DC bedroom.

Also I have some dried flowers. So brown and tasteful

Discoh · 14/11/2022 22:27

Cam22 · 14/11/2022 21:04

This^ for instance.

Walk down an average street and net curtains are very popular. We recently replaced our inherited nets with blinds so I've been taking notice and so many people have nets.

LexMitior · 14/11/2022 22:28

You can't twitch a blind - it makes a clanking noise that gives you away

HintofVintagePink · 14/11/2022 22:32

Yes with a blind your only option is to Maintain The Peep

Penguinsaregreat · 14/11/2022 22:32

Woodchip 🙀🙀🙀🙀faints at the memory of my first house and having to scrap the godawful stuff off.
Nothing, absolutely nothing would ever make me put that stuff on again.

stuntbubbles · 14/11/2022 22:39

@Penguinsaregreat Any tips for removing the fucking stuff? The previous owners of my house put it up on freshly plastered walls! So not even a hangover of past trends or covering dodgy plaster. But an active modern decor choice FROM HELL.

Beammeupdude · 14/11/2022 13:06

Oooo interesting thread. My design bugs are:

Too many pagan artifacts

Slave toilet/sex swing on display anywhere other than the dungeon

Imitation parquet flooring made from lasagne sheets

Sentient wardrobes

Gérard Depardieu

Wallpaper on the portcullis

Boarded up windows

Candle lit shrines to Bob Carolgees

The fire of Hades.

So tacky, so passé etc.

I have at least one Gérard Depardieu in each room…

Bonos · 14/11/2022 22:42

This thread is hilarious.

Beammeupdude · 14/11/2022 22:57

Rooms that are exact replicas of the bar from 'Cheers'

Purely theoretical couches

Eggs as light bulbs

LexMitior · 14/11/2022 23:01

@Beammeupdude - I think that's pretty unreasonable really. Everyone knows that making your way in the world today takes everything you've got

TV over the fireplace.
portrait of family over the fireplace
No fireplace
Range cookers
Beams
Bath in the bedroom
En suite without a door
Big leather sofas
White kitchens
Conservatories

Agree with this except for range cookers. Would never want one but think they’re okay if in keeping with the period/style of the house.

We have plain nets and I don't really care what others thing, clearly most other people in our road don't care either as they have them as well and when I walk into town most of the houses I pass have nets. I did look as I saw a thread on here once that said that nobody had them.

AssumingDirectControl · 15/11/2022 05:58

We have nets. Can’t afford blinds and most blinds wouldn’t suit the house anyway (Victorian, big bay windows). We are on a main road and next door to a shop, so we need something for privacy.

Greytea · 15/11/2022 07:37

What’s wrong with mahogany furniture? I have a few bits - it’s Georgian!

Maybe Jarvis DID come round to call.

But you just didn't notice him

at all

Roarsomemore · 15/11/2022 08:25

@herecomesthsun love it!

We have it too. Much too much effort to get rid, and it does cover up all sorts of cracks! But we've lived here for nearly 20 years and it hasn't come back into fashion yet :(

Cam22 · 14/11/2022 17:26

Erm…I’m not upset. Just wondering why that easily attainable wall thing is picked on. Is it an east target? Someone with an Aga will know it’s an expensive item for some. They’ll imagine the scoffers are simply envious. It’s a very different item.

People that get upset and or offended by a random person or person on the internet slating their choice of home decor have no business being on the internet and should retreat to their safe place in Home Bargains or whatever shop it is that sells the kind of crap they like.

Penguinsaregreat · 15/11/2022 17:50

Stuntbubbles
Until now I have erased it from my memory.
It took absolutely ages to remove and it brought some of the plaster off the wall too. I tried scouring it will a wallpaper scraper, then pouring water into the gaps to try and soften it. In the end I had to hire a machine from the local paint shop which kind of steamed it off. I could only afford to hire it for a day as well.
I don’t think I have ever put anything other than paint on the walls since, such was the trauma it caused.
