Mine are:

Feature Walls
Pampas Grass
Crushed Velvet
Hanging Lights - all on the same beam
Shiny furniture

My house is white and I love it - contrasted with darker wood, artwork, plants and colour from things like cushions etc. and to some that’s absolutely boring and that’s ok.

Erm…I’m not upset. Just wondering why that easily attainable wall thing is picked on. Is it an east target? Someone with an Aga will know it’s an expensive item for some. They’ll imagine the scoffers are simply envious. It’s a very different item.

Cos it’s shite and ugly.

Cam22 · 14/11/2022 17:29

Oh very good. Keep it classy.

Cam22 · 14/11/2022 17:30

What is your idea of decoration, I wonder? Shall try not to guess…

bozzabollix · 14/11/2022 17:32

Personally hate when a house is a certain period but people then either try to remove all character or try to make it look like something different. Furniture and decor should take their cue from the house itself. I realise this doesn’t apply to say a brand new house that’s a blank canvas, mind.

A wall decal saying “Hate, mock, sneer”.

(Honestly, it’s a fairly lighthearted thread with equal opportunities for dislikes. Plenty of my decor has been slammed!)

Can you buy those?

It can be too slavish though. That’s equally bad.

Someone on your local Facebook selling site will be able to knock that up for you no problem. Just look for the ads for cheesy personalised Christmas baubles, etc.

Pipsquiggle · 14/11/2022 18:50

Composite/ plastic front doors - they are very good and practical but just don't look as nice as wooden doors.

I just love this company www.londondoor.co.uk but can't afford any of them 🙁

I shouldn’t laugh really but that was never going to be a good question to ask😂😂😂

“I own a very very old house. Like no one knows how old. It's not listed as before the listing lady arrived it had had all of its interesting stuff either completely pulled out or just really badly damaged and covered in cement in the 1950s / 60s.”

I think it’s more likely that it is not worth being listed because it has been ruined. Buildings that are listed have generally been protected and looked after well. Some may even have survived due to falling into disrepair BUT importantly not ruined by unsympathetic
“restoration”.

Our house is very old and listed. It is part of a village where most of the houses are listed and protected for posterity.

Let's always be kind and classy.

Sorry to the #bekind posters but I am enjoying this thread. Any my decorating choices have been laughed at too.

LexMitior · 14/11/2022 20:35

In the interests of full disclosure I have too many plants, my rug is too small according to many, one of the sofas is against a wall (for shame), I have minimalist tendencies, use pops of colour and have open plan. I also have exposed TV wires, and grey carpets and grey faux marble tiles.

These are all crimes to someone on this thread.

Previously guilty of mint green bathroom suite and a small fridge. Please also take student based offences like Frank Zappa poster and lava lamp into consideration before sentence

CambsAlways · 14/11/2022 20:54

Shower curtains, Toilet Brushes, fairy lights round everything unless in child’s room, stick lights, mahogany furniture, mats round the bottom of toilet, net curtains, woodchip paper, dado rails, mug racks

Cam22 · 14/11/2022 21:03

Some of the interior dislikes described are surely features you don’t see very often at all these days.

This^ for instance.

stuntbubbles · 14/11/2022 21:10

Nah, my PILs’ house is wall-to-wall wood chip, nets, loo carpets and mahogany. And we’ve just moved into a fixer-upper that’s the same – even the bloody ceilings are woodchipped. Took down the nets the minute we moved in but a glance out of the window reveals more or less the entire street is net-curtained except for our house now.

Dado rails are everywhere on Instagram though, people are intent on installing them. And personally I love a shower curtain and can’t abide a shower screen.

CambsAlways · 14/11/2022 21:13

Same stuntbubbles when we moved into our home we had woodchip everywhere omfg nightmare. Nets etc working progress, we are getting there though

ghostyslovesheets · 14/11/2022 21:16

oh yes woodchip - also polystyrene tyles and bloody Artex - it was rabid in this house

Leafblowertime · 14/11/2022 21:16

I honestly think the biggest crime against interior design is saying “pop of colour” do people actually say that in real life.” I think I shall buy red curtains for a pop of colour in our otherwise drab and dreary longe”. No one says pop of colour. Not unless you’re Linda bloody barker. 😂

I still have my lava lamp from my student days. It's been through more replacement was bottles than I can even count, and I must have owned it for nearly half my life. And I still love it. So nur 😛

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 14/11/2022 21:21

Wax bottles. Not was bottles.
