Mine are:

Feature Walls
Pampas Grass
Crushed Velvet
Hanging Lights - all on the same beam
Shiny furniture

My house is white and I love it - contrasted with darker wood, artwork, plants and colour from things like cushions etc. and to some that’s absolutely boring and that’s ok.

I love looking on Rightmove and for me houses are ruined by mirrored wardrobes, grey (anywhere), roll end bath (modern but trying to look old/traditional), plastic grass and coloured kitchens.

Croque · 12/11/2022 17:10

I am still baffled by the leather sofa hate. We must be using ours differently to the MN population. When I moved on from fabric sofas to a leather one, it felt like a real lightbulb moment. That said, interior design does not come naturally to me. I now stick to white walls, natural wooden floors/furniture/doors (never pine) , high quality colour pops used sparsely in furniture and art. It is not offensive.

MollieMarie · 12/11/2022 17:13

Mirrored furniture
Studded headboards
Black and white themed rooms
Minimalism

Bluevelvetsofa · 12/11/2022 17:14

I like my choices , obviously, but I don’t think it’s fair to be critical of what other people like. Unless it’s filthy, so cluttered it’s like hoarding, or falling apart, I imagine that people either have what they can afford, or what appeals to them aesthetically.

Really surprised to see so many people mention mirrored furniture - not because they don't like it (it sounds hideous) but because I have never actually met anyone with mirrored furniture. Am also a Rightmove addict and haven't ever noticed it. Is it a trend just now?

I referred to mirrored furniture upthread and this was the kind of thing I meant, all over mirror with a fussy Louis XV type style (not normal wardrobes with mirrored doors). I have seen it in a few houses I’ve visited, it seems to go with the much favoured grey everything which I don’t like either. Each to their own I guess.

Grey!

GlitterDragon · 12/11/2022 17:21

Bachelor pad red.

jesusjoan · 12/11/2022 17:24

@YouOKHun Crikey, that's a monstrosity!

Otterock · 12/11/2022 17:26

Grey everything. Especially the grey/silver luxe trend with lots of mirrors and diamanté.

fitted wardrobes that dominate the room

tvs mounted on the wall

laminate floors

leather sofas

studded headboards and chesterfield sofas

black kitchens

fitted shelving surrounding the bed that makes it look like a caravan bedroom

surreygirl1987 · 12/11/2022 17:41

Ha - I love loads of things on this thread!

Your TV is not mounted properly, it should really be at eye level for comfortable viewing not looking up at an angle.

Hahhaaa omg shutup 😂😂 have you been inside my house?! You have no idea at what height the tv is mounted. God people on mn are so freaking weird.

Grey overkill.

Feature walls especially if it’s a huge flower pattern such as poppies.

Vertical blinds.

Word art - Live, laugh, love etc

Marilyn Monroe art in homes where people have never watched her in a film.

Any kind of fake crap like Dior or Chanel coasters, lampshades, cushions etc

Yellow or lemon walls.

Sage green especially front doors.

Loads of plants everywhere.

Family portraits
Especially if everyone is wearing coordinating clothing such as a onesie in the same pattern.

Clutter.

Period property with modern decor.

Modern property with old fashioned decor.

Black walls.

Dark green walls.

Dark blue walls.

Cuppasoupmonster · 12/11/2022 17:45

Either the naff grey and crushed velvet thing, or when someone tries too hard to be bijou with all the jewel colours and dark gold palm leaf wallpaper etc and you can just tell it will date in 5 seconds flat.

BobbyBobbyBobby · 12/11/2022 17:46

Front doors with loads of glass. The front door is in my opinion the barrier to the outside world. 😀

CareBear50 · 12/11/2022 17:52

Chester draws......lol

ChocolateCakeYum · 12/11/2022 17:53

Grey and pink interiors - boak

Crushed velvet - looks nasty, feels weird and is expensive. Also a bugger to clean

Wall slogans - tacky

TVs so high up the wall you have to crane your neck to watch them

TVs that dominate the room and any furniture that dominates the room - get stuff that fits!

Mock tudor on the exterior - ugly and way worse than pebbledash

Black kitchens - look cheap, makes the room look dark and small

Neon lights on the kickboards of cupboards - a waste of electricity and I want to prepare food in a kitchen not feel like I’m stepping into a nightclub lol.

ChocolateCakeYum · 12/11/2022 17:54

Oh and mirrored furniture or anything with diamanté all over it. 🤮

We bought leather sofas for our front room and they’re the most comfortable sofas we’ve ever owned (like sitting on clouds, omg they’re so cozy) and they suit the room which we’ve turned into a mini library (we did this as were huge readers and have about 3000 books now).

EsmeSusanOgg · 12/11/2022 17:58

Grey everywhere
Fake bling/ mirrored furniture
White plether

Sidking · 12/11/2022 18:05

Black high shine floor tiles (my parents chose these when they had their kitchen done and regret it)

Glass topped tables

White or black wood effect furniture

Textured wallpaper (finally got rid of the awful stuff in our living room)

Vertical blinds (again, finally just got rid of the ones that were installed in our rented house)

Sidking · 12/11/2022 18:08

We are guilty of having a sofa far too big for our space, I also hate it. It was fine in our old house but we had to move and it's not something we can afford to replace.

It takes up a stupid amount of space, I can't wait to get rid of it!

IsThePopeCatholic · 12/11/2022 18:08

Plastic / upvc windows
artificial grass
’homely’ sayings on walls, eg home is where the heart is
plastic front doors
kitchen islands
carpet in the bathroom
en-suite bathrooms
bar stools

808Kate1 · 12/11/2022 18:14

@ChocolateCakeYum Your room sounds ideal to me and now I really want to see a picture of it 😅

KimberleyClark · 12/11/2022 18:24

Neon lights on the kickboards of cupboards - a waste of electricity and I want to prepare food in a kitchen not feel like I’m stepping into a nightclub lol.

Or an aircraft on a night flight!

KimberleyClark · 12/11/2022 18:26

We are guilty of having a TV too large for the room, we got a bit carried away as it was our first flat screen TV - we had a CRT up until 7 years ago! We love it though.
