Since switching to an Audi, I’ve noticed people are a lot more aggressive toward me and less likely to let me out/in, thank me for stopping, let me merge etc.

I was musing about this to my friend and she said that because only wankers drive Audis/BMW’s etc.

Is this fair? We got ours just because it was the only car available at the time that matched all our needs and was in our budget!

Aibu to think this must be a popular way of thinking considering how different my experience has been on the road since the switch? I had a lovely Nissan Juke before and found most drivers in my city very considerate!

I’m an Audi driver and have not noticed other drivers being aggressive, refusing to let me out at junctions etc.

MavisChunch29 · 12/11/2022 09:05

The rest of the time they are larger that required vehicles used by one parent

True. But hardly better if they ran two cars, surely?

Itwasgoodwhileitlasted · 12/11/2022 09:24

Funnily enough I woke up quite upset this morning because I'd dreamt that I had sold my tiny vauxhall viva and bought a BMW.

I was truly horrified!

Because people treat you differently.

But that’s the point. Don't pay attention to them. Are they feeding you, paying your bills, putting a roof over your head? No, they’re not. They’re just like a snowflake that lands on you in the winter - they disappear and you don’t think about it again.

TulipCat · 12/11/2022 09:47

It's definitely true that some people invest way too much energy and judgement on driving and cars.

LikeTearsInRain · 12/11/2022 09:52

If you have noticed a difference and don’t like it then I suppose either get used to it or consider going for a less fancy car

emptythelitterbox · 12/11/2022 09:52

Of course people do.

Drive in wealthy neighborhoods and others are nice.
Drive it in average or poorer areas, people can be hostile.
Leave an expensive car at a train station or shop in average to poor areas expect it to be keyed or damaged.

At petrol stations or other places when you're outside the car, so many are omg I love your car blah blah blah.

Spicypies · 12/11/2022 09:57

This is why I drive a Volvo.

hidingmyusername · 12/11/2022 09:59

We have a little fiat 500. My DH comments that men on the road are far more aggressive and rude to him when he drives it - until they pull up alongside, see the burly bloke in the driving seat and then look all kind of sheepish. Fuckers.

I do judge drivers of stupidly large 4x4s. We live in london with narrow crowded streets and no one needs a car that big to take little Johnny 500 metres up the road to school. It's pathetic, affluence waving nonsense. Smile

caroleanboneparte · 12/11/2022 10:05

I thought of Audis before I even opened the thread.

They are usually driven by wankers and yes I'd never let them out!

Winterfires · 12/11/2022 10:07

Boooooot · 11/11/2022 20:33

This reminds me of my grandad who beeps and waves at anyone who has the same make and colour car as him 🤣

I wave at them too and they always look bemused.

Winterfires · 12/11/2022 10:10

I’ve been a passenger in cars that wouldn’t let BMW’s or Audi’s out so it’s definitely a thing, I let people out if I’m able and it’s safe whatever car they are in. That said I often fine the drivers of Jag’s to be very slow and a lot of van drivers to be twats so I’m guilty of judging too but it’s truuuuue.

Nitgel · 12/11/2022 10:11

i judge bloody suv drivers and anyone who drives a bigger car, road hogs, parking hogs, block roundabout views with their large size. usually driven by as Victoria Wood states women with one spindly child. Wink

NCFT0922 · 12/11/2022 10:18

@Perfectlystill Bentleys are absolutely not usually driven by chauffeurs 😂😂
With regards your comment on the 4x4 driving mums going to schools in the city; many of the children at my childrens school live semi rurally and travel to get to school, some have farms. How odd that you seem to think everyone goes to the nearest state school and therefore doesn’t need to drive into a city.

Feysriana · 12/11/2022 10:19

I live on narrow country roads and a lot of people round here have range rovers. When two range rovers meet, they slow right down and struggle to pass each other on our road. Creating queuing traffic. I admit now when I see a range rover coming I feel a bit oh ffs here’s another wanker.

Don’t really have an opinion on other cars except if I see someone driving my (small, reliable but boring) car and then I often find myself giving way to them as it feels like we’re in the same club 🤣

Vikinga · 12/11/2022 10:22

I don't judge people by the car they drive.

However, I wish people wouldn't drive big gas guzzlers when they don't need to. It isn't their fault though. We need those cars to be really heavily taxed to discourage people from buying them.

Nitgel · 12/11/2022 10:30

it would be a much nicer world environmentally is every child could attend a local school they could access with minimal transportation, obs if you live rurally it's different but the roads here are choked by school run cars.

mourndayclub · 12/11/2022 10:48

@Catastrophejane

As a Tesla driver that's probably only because we're on autopilot and if someone cuts into the lane it's going to potentially excessively brake and slow down

1POTUS · 12/11/2022 11:51

HahBumhug · 11/11/2022 20:32

We BMW drivers are very lovely to each other on the roads 😁

Agree!

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 12/11/2022 11:54

I live rurally and we get very busy with holiday makers and day trippers in the summer and we have a weird observation that everyone with a 2018 plate car cannot drive on country roads.

StickySnotBalls · 12/11/2022 12:00

I agree @Boooooot I have a couple of the 'wanker" cars already mentioned on here. Enjoy driving them both. I laugh everytime a driver tries to intimidate me, nah mate, it's not going to happen, I'll leave you standing
People allow me out of junctions though

bloodyplanes · 12/11/2022 13:14

Only range rover drivers......pretentious, show off, style over substance wankers or chav drug dealers! Also middle aged/ older men driving very expensive, very fast, very showy/loud sports cars ( Ferrari etc)......very obviously making up for a deficit elsewhere 🙄.

Shodan · 12/11/2022 13:27

Not the car per se, but I do 'judge' Mecedes drivers...

Based solely on my extensive knowledge of Mercedes' drivers- they are incapable of calling their car a car. It's always referred to as 'my Mercedes'.

"I parked my Mercedes in the car park"
"I've left my Mercedes at home"
"My Mercedes needs a clean"

(I know 2 Mercedes drivers, so clearly it must be true of all of them 😁)

Catastrophejane · 12/11/2022 13:28

mourndayclub · 12/11/2022 10:48

@Catastrophejane

Aha! Now it’s beginning to make sense!
