I don’t like people

What the hell is wrong with people? I know you do get good eggs out there but let’s be honest, there’s too many bad ones to retain much faith in humanity. Tonight, outside my house, there’s been a man & his mate walking up and down, shouting abuse down a phone. Really aggressive & scary.

Talked to a lady at my local supermarket today who says all staff now wear cameras due to the threat of abuse, physical & verbal from customers. People on the news, committing terrible crimes & acts of violence against one another, children caught up in it all. People at work slagging each other off & sticking the boot in where they could just do the mature thing & shut the fuck up/get on with their work. Putin murdering thousands of innocent civilians. Some complete nasty piece of work shouting abuse at a child in a theatre. Like, who the actual fuck does this???? Any of these things?

AIBU to feel like this about the human race? What an absolute disgrace we are.

Jesus, this thread is peak ‘a certain strand of Mn’. The misanthropes who never answer their doors, live in horror of a neighbour saying hello, regard the school run as some kind of Mean Girls endurance test full of ‘cliques’ and ‘queen bees’, and avoid friendships as they involve ‘drama’.

I mean, I love dogs, I walk a dog that isn’t mine daily, but why would you retreat from the human race and pride yourself on choosing instead the company of a creature that specialises in uncritical loyalty and is guaranteed to adore its owner, however awful that owner is?

xon · 11/11/2022 21:23

Dogs don't tend to adore awful owners?

I think people who have been horrible to us are often wonderful to others. So hard to say 1/4 baddies vs 3/4 good ones, etc.
We're just all so multifaceted- when desperate we are all horrible; when tired we are all lazy/ careless/ grumpy, etc.
But, yeah. I get what you mean.

So??? That still makes them absolutely vile to target certain people (who they see as easy targets) vs others who would fight back. There’s a difference between being moody to being abusive and nasty to people.

JamSandle · 11/11/2022 21:26

I get moments of that too.

But I do like people, just nice ones.

When you find them, treasure them.

ChunkyThighs24 · 11/11/2022 21:31

Agree there's a lot of shit but don't forget unfortunately the media loves a bad news story.. it sells well.

I think everyone has something good in them somewhere.

One 'good news story' I always remember when peoples shiteness has particularly irritated me, was in my early 20's I worked in a supermarket. A smart looking gent paid for his shopping, & behind him was a little old man. The smart gent gave me £50 & said 'For his shopping' & nodded at the old man. Confused, I said something like 'Thank you, but why?' & he simply said 'It is a beautiful day', smiled & left.

(This was before people only did nice things to show off about it on socials. Just a lovely thing to do).

As Maya Angelou said, 'We are more alike my friends, than we are unalike'.

I prefer crows. I befriended a couple and they introduced me to their baby in the summer. I leave them nuts and they leave me random bits of twig.

That's amazing. I love crows. Feed them every morning.

I wouldn't do any of those awful things, OP, if that gives you any comfort. Where I live there are lots of kind & generous people. Many considerate men as well, in as far as they hold doors for you, give way on pavements, change a tyre for you, speak kindly, etc. I wouldn't expect this, of course, but they're here, in the small town where I live.

WhiskersPete · 11/11/2022 21:39

As Superhans once said - people like Coldplay and voted for the Nazi's, you can't trust people.

Precisely.

Apparently crows are more intelligent than parrots and are better talkers too!

H34th · 11/11/2022 21:39

@ilyx So it's all relevant.

These people don't see themselves as vile. And because you think you haven't been nasty to anyone doesn't mean that's absolutely true.

Most of us are capable of treating someone well or bad depending on circumstances, pressures, conditions.
It's not black and white/ evil vs heroes as in a Hollywood movie.

They very often do, in my experience. I had a job in my teens in the local dog pound/animal shelter, and it was often unbelievably sad to see dogs fawning over owners who had visibly neglected them and were bringing them in to us to dump.

the80sweregreat · 11/11/2022 21:43

I find people incredibly boring and self absorbed mostly. Lots of wicked people around too

donttellmehesalive · 11/11/2022 21:44

I think anyone working in a customer facing role has probably experienced the worst of humanity. You objectively know that it's not everyone, but the percentage of idiots does seem to be increasing, and they seem worse. I am such a happy, positive person but feel ground down at the moment. I'm a teacher and the way some parents treat us and speak to us is just awful. But this thread has made me smile. I want a crow too.

JamSandle · 11/11/2022 21:46

Crow friends for everyone. 🐦

JorisBonson · 11/11/2022 21:48

Is there a step by step guide to crow befriending please?

Forfrigz · 11/11/2022 21:51

I find myself feeling like this about people too. I think since the human population is so huge we don't bake each other in the way we spent most of our evolution doing so.
I think that people's behaviour gets worse during times of stress and tiredness which people are feeling more recently. It's a shame but it's just how it is. I have also brrn guilty of poor behaviour at times but I am trying to do my best. It is worth trying.

Good god baking is a new low.

Haha, I meant value 😅 no idea where bake came from.

Great song

I was genuinely rereading that and trying to think what ‘baking’ was a typo for.

EmeraldShamrock1 · 11/11/2022 22:39

I'm a firm believer that the good people are in the majority.

In this part of the world anyway.

Yes there is violent scum causing destruction but there are very good people out there doing good things everyday.

When my head becomes preoccupied with the horrible parts of society I try refocusing on the good people.

xon · 11/11/2022 22:40

Echobelly · 11/11/2022 22:41

I still like people, but I do think society is making people more alienated from one another, which leads to things like more people being shitty to supermarket staff as it makes it easier for some types not to see other people as ... people. My friends who work in supermarkets have to deal with a lot of crap and it's not on. It's still a minority, but even a few are more than enough.

Welpwelpwelp · 11/11/2022 22:41

People are a mix of good and bad. God people do bad things and bad people sometimes do good things. Some people are pieces of shit but no one is born being a piece of shit. Life and circumstances and temperament. People have bad days People suffer with stress and anxiety. Op focus on good people. There are a lot of them about and a lot are also on this site.

ChiefAdjusterOfRubensShorts · 11/11/2022 22:42

Some people are utter shitbags.

I’d much rather be at home with DH and DDog.

Justcashnosweets · 11/11/2022 22:47

I've had a bit of a shit day today, but this inadvertent crow befriending thread has really cheered me up. 😊

NellesVilla · 11/11/2022 22:52

I’m nd, op and really up and down but although my friend group is small, they are all the loveliest people you could imagine. They all put up with my shit and weirdness and accept that I’m still a misanthrope who prefers animals.

I think my point is that there are some wonderful people out there. Many cunts, yes, but the gems are there if you are open to them!
