I don’t like people

What the hell is wrong with people? I know you do get good eggs out there but let’s be honest, there’s too many bad ones to retain much faith in humanity. Tonight, outside my house, there’s been a man & his mate walking up and down, shouting abuse down a phone. Really aggressive & scary.

Talked to a lady at my local supermarket today who says all staff now wear cameras due to the threat of abuse, physical & verbal from customers. People on the news, committing terrible crimes & acts of violence against one another, children caught up in it all. People at work slagging each other off & sticking the boot in where they could just do the mature thing & shut the fuck up/get on with their work. Putin murdering thousands of innocent civilians. Some complete nasty piece of work shouting abuse at a child in a theatre. Like, who the actual fuck does this???? Any of these things?

AIBU to feel like this about the human race? What an absolute disgrace we are.

There was a thread on here years ago where a poster had accidentally ended up with a pet crow, or perhaps a raven. I think it had fallen out of a nest as a chick and she had taken it in to feed and look after it and then it just never really left. Used to go out and about and come back to her lean-to to sleep and eat. It talked too. Pretty sure she named it Montgomery.

Sorry for the derail OP.

ilyx · 11/11/2022 20:27

I’d say about 1/4 of people are bad and that might sound dramatic but think about it, we have ALL had an abusive partner, or boss, colleague, parent, family member etc etc. so this is not a tiny minority of people. I’d still say the majority of people are good though.

Dogs over people any day of the week.

Dogs over people any day of the week.

Dogs are just the best. I do like some people, but really not very many.

crackofdoom · 11/11/2022 20:35

There are some wankers out there- and there are a hell of a lot more people who have just never been socialised to be considerate of others (hello SUV wankers parked on the junction at school pick up time!)

But there are also a hell of a lot of decent, kind, altruistic people out there. Like the lorry driver who stopped traffic on the motorway when my friend's car span out of control and crossed all three lanes, and who then pulled over and sat with her until the police arrived.

Not to say that I wouldn't also like to have some corvid friends, mind you.

DripDripDripSugar · 11/11/2022 20:37

There are a lot of absolute arseholes out there, but bear in mind for the one person heckling a 12 year old singer, there was a theatre full of people shushing him and he’s now been banned (I understand).

crackofdoom · 11/11/2022 20:38

I do have to admit that I tend to steer clear of people who make blanket statements like "I prefer dogs to people!"

You do tend to reap what you sow, to a certain extent.

roisinrose · 11/11/2022 20:39

Agree totally. This is why I hang out with my dogs mostly!

roisinrose · 11/11/2022 20:40

Lol, just seen what the previous poster wrote 😂
Still, true. Dogs "are" better than ppl.

JoonT · 11/11/2022 20:42

You have to shut them out. If not, you’ll grow bitter and nasty. I like that saying “you must be the change you want in the world.” In other words, if you want people to be kinder, start by being kind yourself. If you wish people were more polite, go out of your way to be polite. I think of it as the ripple philosophy. When you throw a stone in a pond, it sends out ripples. When you are rude or cruel, you send out ripples of rudeness and cruelty into the world. When you are kind, you send out ripples of kindness.

Some people really are rotten to the core, and some are wonderful through and through. Most of us, however, are somewhere in the middle. And those people in the middle can be made better or worse depending on what happens to them. Every time you are kind or good, you encourage kindness or goodness in others.

one of the things that annoys me about mumsnet is the amount of people that want to criticise how I write which is really annoying .

Only because you don't use punctuation and it makes it so much harder to read and understand.

ReadtheReviews · 11/11/2022 20:45

Yup. Time to start building an ark, OP.

How do I befriend a crow please? I would love this.

Two years ago, we moved into our flat and there’s a big scrubby patch of garden out back. I put out a bird feeder for the little birds and this crow came down, and instead of mobbing all the birds and being a twat bullying them off (like the magpies) he would sit and wait until a sunflower seed or a peanut was inadvertently flung his way. So I started putting monkey nuts out just for him.

Then it was really hot in the summer and there was no water and he would come and visit this washing up bowl I left out for the foxes etc, and have a bath, then he turned up with his wife crow and treated her to a spa day, letting her have a good splash then preening her feathers, then summoning me to give her the nuts.

If they see me at the window or outside they recognise me so they’ll caw for nuts, and this summer they had a funny scrubby little baby with them and I put grapes out as I didn’t know if he was properly weaned onto nuts.

They seemed pretty pleased with my efforts and one day there was a weird pile of twigs under the window sill with all the broken up monkey nut shells 🤣

As Superhans once said - people like Coldplay and voted for the Nazi's, you can't trust people.

LikeAStar1994 · 11/11/2022 20:51

I feel exactly the same way as you do when I look through Mumsnet on a daily basis.

I do use full stops etc, this isn’t school and I understand stuff written bu others even if spelt wrong I wouldn’t pick them up on it I find that rude,

This is a really simplistic way of viewing the world. “Nice”, agreeable people are targeted much more for bullying than disagreeable people so just being a good person isn’t going to protect you from bad people.

Spot on 😂 Love Superhans. (See username)

Sunnytwobridges · 11/11/2022 20:58

Most people I have known have disappointment me so I try to avoid them at all costs 😂

sobeyondthehills · 11/11/2022 21:01

I use to work in retail, the general public put me off people (and Christmas) for life.

My DP has a crow army, he is growing it. He is very proud of them.

Humans are just glorified chimpanzees and they spend their time fighting and flinging shit at each other so 🤷‍♀️

I think people who have been horrible to us are often wonderful to others. So hard to say 1/4 baddies vs 3/4 good ones, etc.
We're just all so multifaceted- when desperate we are all horrible; when tired we are all lazy/ careless/ grumpy, etc.
But, yeah. I get what you mean.

xon · 11/11/2022 21:20

Superhans was right.

The majority seem to be capable of being awful or just bloody liars! I'm pleasantly surprised now and then, but on the whole I agree.

I prefer crows. I befriended a couple and they introduced me to their baby in the summer. I leave them nuts and they leave me random bits of twig.

This is amazing.
