Arranged to meet a friend at 10 today. Plan was for her to confirm she could make it this morning and come to pick me up for us to go for a coffee.

Get a text at 0925 saying she is early and parked in a 30 minute space. However I am not quite ready so rush to get ready sooner. Meantime she rings and I miss her call so call her back but no answer.

Get a message at 0950 saying she has driven off and we can meet another time. Then get a text saying she is sitting having a coffee where we were due to go this morning.

AIBU to think this is not reasonable? Surely if you are early you could wait in the 30 minute space then drive to pick me up?

Why didn't she drive straight to you and wait there? Yes seems well odd - she is very early but can't wait the time? Then goes off basically cancelling yet still goes to the cafe? Bizarre!

XenoBitch · 09/11/2022 23:34

She is BVU, and texting you to say she is having a coffee anyway is weird.

Blondewithredlips · 09/11/2022 23:35

No parking in my street. 30 minute parking space was max 5 minutes drive away.

Did you reply to her 9.25 text?

Blondewithredlips · 09/11/2022 23:37

I replied at 0945 as had been in the shower. Was on track for 10 am meeting.

I am being completely truthful. Looked up times to the exact minute.

My AIBU is about bring a meeting time forward by 30 minutes with 5 minutes notice...

KiwiInTraining · 09/11/2022 23:50

I think YANBU - have you messaged your friend to ask her why she drove off before the time you’d agreed to meet?

Also, when your friend said she was having a coffee in the place you’d originally agreed to meet in, could you not have joined her?

You literally just made up some random story how weird

Blondewithredlips · 09/11/2022 23:57

I messaged to say I was ready and could she pick me up.
It is a 20 minute uphill walk and she had already said make it another time. No consideration that I had got ready to meet as arranged.
I think it is the feeling that she thought it was completely reasonable to change our meeting time to 30 minutes early and driving off.
My daughter is in her 20s and seemed really shocked.

This OP is unpleasant

Sounds like there could have been a misunderstanding about the time of your meet? If she though the was 9:30am I can see why she went.

Is she normally a good friend?

Blondewithredlips · 10/11/2022 00:04

Honestly no misunderstanding about times. I have gone over all messages to double check as I am so angry.
I think it is an arrogance that her time is more important than mine.
I do more for her than she does for me...

OP posts:
Blondewithredlips · 10/11/2022 00:06

She said in her 0925 message that she was early...

This whole thread is confusing me. Confused

Alvinne · 10/11/2022 00:11

What a weird thing to do! Surely if she was sat in her car in a 30min space she could have stayed there as long as needed as she would know if a traffic warden went past? Why did she go to the cafe without you, its so weird. I wouldn't be happy about this, is she generally self centered?

Basically is it reasonable for someone to bring a meeting time forward 30 minutes with 5 minutes warning? And to cancel the meeting because the person cannot make the earlier time?

No, it's not reasonable

No, it obviously isn’t reasonable. Have you asked her why she thought it was?

Cw112 · 10/11/2022 00:14

Why not ask her about it? Say you were getting ready and weren't expecting her for another 35 minutes so why did she leave without you? It's very bizarre unless she was double parked and couldn't find a suitable space and had to go on, but even then I'd have gone elsewhere and come back for you. I'd just ask her and see what she says.

Want2beme · 10/11/2022 00:14

Did you see her text at 9.25, or is that the txt you saw at 9.45?

For her to end up at the place you were going to anyway is very odd, indeed. Is this common behaviour for her? Is she stressed and a bit distracted?

Blondewithredlips · 10/11/2022 00:17

I have messaged that this was not ok and I am not happy because I was working towards meeting at 10 and then she she expected to bring everything forward and just drove off. She has not replied.
