To think this was inappropriate work attire?

Dc’s school (not my place of work).

One of the teachers (year 1) was wearing a very short skirt and tights. The skirt barely covered her backside.

Nothing wrong with the outfit for outside of work, or a different work environment but something about it just seemed wrong in a primary school.

AIBU to think this isn’t really suitable for the classroom?

OP posts:
MollieMarie · 09/11/2022 20:38

I wouldn't complain nor would I even notice tbh

Pewterschmitt · 09/11/2022 20:39

If wearing tights I’d not see the issue

luxxlisbon · 09/11/2022 20:40

Jesus how long are you really looking at a teacher to see how short her skirt is?

I can’t imagine complaining about the length of another adult’s skirt 😂

Hairdresse · 09/11/2022 20:41

why is this “wrong” for a primary school teacher? What are you insinuating?

SkylightSkylight · 09/11/2022 20:41

Thick winter tights or sheer nude tights?

if my child liked her & was happy, she could wear a bikini if she wanted!

NeopreneMermaid · 09/11/2022 20:41

Sounds like it was longer than the dresses my mum (and her colleagues) wore when she started teaching in the early '70s. I remember finding one and trying it on thinking it was a nice top.

surreygirl1987 · 09/11/2022 20:55

Why do you think this is an issue?

CallMeNutribullet · 09/11/2022 20:56

Seriously what year is this?

CatsEatDogs · 09/11/2022 21:01

My friend is a primary school teacher and her school are quite strict on things like this , eg no really short skirts, low cut tops or spaghetti straps etc. Maybe her school is unusual though, given responses from pp’s

GoodnightGentleBoris · 09/11/2022 21:03

I’m surprised by the answers, it’s standard for workplaces to have a dress code that includes wearing skirts of a modest length. Nothing to do with it being a primary school but short skirts aren’t very professional for any workplace

QueenAstrid · 09/11/2022 21:03

Why do you care about this. Plenty of my teacher colleagues wear short skirts.

VladmirsPoutine · 09/11/2022 21:05

Yanbu but on mumsnet you were watching her too closely or some other shit. Someone will be along shortly to ask how does her skirt impede her teaching. Yanbu - people should be appropriately dressed for the circumstances so whilst nothing is inherently wrong with that outfit it doesn't belong in a school setting, nor would it in my office. A skirt barely covering your ass belongs elsewhere.

UnstableCarHouse · 09/11/2022 21:06

Doesn’t sound inappropriate. I’m not sure I’d notice.

PinkArt · 09/11/2022 21:07

Maybe stop staring at women's bums when they're at work, OP? 🤷🏻‍♀️
Not really suitable behaviour for the classroom after all

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 09/11/2022 21:09

Wearing tights and leggings with short tops has become more acceptable.

Fashion, innit?

RisingSunn · 09/11/2022 21:10

I wouldn’t expect to see someone dressed like that in a professional environment so YANBU.

LoisLane22 · 09/11/2022 21:18

YANBU. I'm a teacher and I think looking professional should be a given. Short skirts at bum level aren't professional, tights or not.

This. MN is so weird.

This.

Puffalicious · 09/11/2022 21:25

There was a student teacher arrive on her first day at my friend 's secondary school wearing a hoodie and leggings and trainers. She said she was 'really tired' and needed to be comfortable.

She was spoken to kindly about professional attire: she complained to her university, stating that teenagers know teachers wear comfies to work after hours, so what was the issue.

FFS 🙈

Nosleepforthismum · 09/11/2022 21:26

I can’t see it’s any of your business unless you consider your DC to be affected in some way?

GlasgowGal82 · 09/11/2022 21:32

Can't get upset about this. There's lots of young women teaching at my kids school and short skirts with opaque tights seem to be a popular outfit choice. I don't think I would be comfortable wearing that at work, but then I'm 23 anymore and I really don't think it's my place to comment on other womens clothing choices!

RandomMusings7 · 09/11/2022 21:43

Inappropriate for any professional environment. I'm with you on this one.

Aren't you a peach? Pathetic take.

Georgeskitchen · 09/11/2022 21:50

Whatever happened to professional standards? No wonder everything is going to shit
