On our way to a&e with a poorly 3 year old! He's had a temp on and off for 4 days paired with a cold but the last 24 hours he's been lethargic, in out of sleep and not eating or drinking.

I feel sick there is no worse feeling!

Any ideas what it could be? (Im on our way to hospital so I will be getting actual medical advice soon)

Thank you

Sorry to hear your little one is not feeling well. Just wait until you see a doctor as lots of different things can be said about what people think it could be. You're doing the right thing.

Badgirlriri · 09/11/2022 19:38

He just sounds like he’s unwell. Doesn’t sound particularly worrying?

Mrsphilmiller · 09/11/2022 19:38

Sorry no advice, but I hope your DC gets better.

determinedtomakethiswork · 09/11/2022 19:39

Oh how horrible for you. I hope everything goes well.

ivfbabymomma1 · 09/11/2022 19:40

@Badgirlriri I hope your right! It's the not eating and drinking that's worrying me. He's not had a single drink since early this morning ( middle of the night early) and no wees today.

I hope I am over reacting and I'll be the first to hold my hands up if I am.

He's had 3 naps today for hours on end and he never naps ever :(

Thank you everyone 🤞🏽

Hopefully he will be seen soon or they have a paeds ED but if they don’t or you are going to be waiting a while ask for a syringe and squash/water/apple juice and give him 5ml every 5 minutes. Ask for a urine pot too so if he needs a wee you can get a sample rather than be asked to get one 10minutes after he does one.

Notimeforaname · 09/11/2022 20:01

Good luck op.

For every negative thought you have, think of two possible positives.
This helps me when I'm beside myself with worry.

ivfbabymomma1 · 09/11/2022 20:04

@Anunusualfamily greet advice thank you! I've found a sick bowl if he needs a wee

Darbs76 · 09/11/2022 20:07

Hopefully he’s fine. It’s definitely normal for kids to sleep most of the time when they are sick. At that age anyway. Might have been better to call 111 but you know your child best and better safe than sorry

ArrabellaAM · 09/11/2022 20:10

If he hasn't wee'd and is sleeping a lot more than usual he needs seeing. Hope he's OK and you get seen soon!

I did call 111 this is what they suggested :(

I will stress he hasn't had a wee - is that a really bad sign? :(

Pompomsfantastix · 09/11/2022 20:12

You’re right it’s just the worst feeling ever when you’re seriously worried about your little one. Thinking of you x

Anunusualfamily · 09/11/2022 20:15

For those of you saying it sounds normal. 12ish hours without passing urine and lethargy are both red flags that something needs to be done. Being seen is not unreasonable. Hopefully just fluids will make a difference

What this poster said.
It can be a sign of sepsis. Very important to be seen. It may not be sepsis but it must be assessed and ruled out.

Anunusualfamily · 09/11/2022 20:19

Yes let them know he hasn’t weed.
but he probably hasn’t weed because he hasn’t drunk so little sips or syringes in to his mouth every couple of minutes and he’ll likely perk up.

ChickinBell · 09/11/2022 20:20

I hope he gets seen soon Flowers

Winterfires · 09/11/2022 20:22

I’d rather 1 million 3 years old were seen and turned out to just have a virus than one falling seriously ill. I’m sure they’ll be absolutely fine but it’s a scary thing when your mighty toddler is felled by a illness.

SkylightSkylight · 09/11/2022 20:31

It's very scary!! But hopefully some fluids & he'll bounce back!! They go downhill quickly, but also bounce back at the speed of light 🤗

Absolutely this. You've done the right thing OP and hopefully it's "just" a wee virus and dehydration. I'd be interested to know how you get on, if you're happy to update.

ivfbabymomma1 · 09/11/2022 20:43

Thank you! He has just been assessed and his blood sugars are too low, his heart rate is high and he's dehydrated. We are awaiting to hear the treatment action plan but talks of fluids have been said.

Ds has a bit of fear of doctors through and we had to pin him down for his assessments so will he be sedated?!

I just want to burst into tears but I'm trying to be strong. Thankfull DH is with me

ivfbabymomma1 · 09/11/2022 20:44

Sorry forgot to say at the moment it's a suspected viral / chest infection

OP posts:
babynoname22 · 09/11/2022 20:46

Hope everything is ok and he gets treatment quick. RSV is doing the rounds big time. No urine is not good but can be very easily rectified with right treatment.

Sending love

Joshanddonna · 09/11/2022 20:47

Not sure why you need to go to A&E. Is his breathing laboured? Is he using his stomach muscles to breathe? I’d keep him home and call 111.
syringing water or juice into the mouth works quite well.
