On our way to a&e with a poorly 3 year old! He's had a temp on and off for 4 days paired with a cold but the last 24 hours he's been lethargic, in out of sleep and not eating or drinking.

I feel sick there is no worse feeling!

Any ideas what it could be? (Im on our way to hospital so I will be getting actual medical advice soon)

Thank you

Honestly makes me want to hit my head against a brick wall if people are still trying to say a lethargic child who hasn't passed urine in ages doesn't need A&E.

So happy you've been seen and he's starting to perk up. The wards usually have loads of toys and staff have plenty of experience with upset children not wanting a cannula etc..

I never understand why the first instinct of people when their child is ill is to post a running commentary on mumsnet.

he doesn’t sound that ill if he’s asking for and eating ice cream

What a vile attitude Doorpalms.

OP hope your little boy feels better soon x

Thank you everyone! We got home about 5am this morning! (After he'd been syringed water and passed urine)
The diagnosis was originally a viral chest infection but then it turned out to be bacterial tonsillitis!

Thank you all for your nice messages to keep me distracted! The doctors said I did absolutely the right thing by getting him checked!

Thanks for the update and glad your DS is on the mend!

I sometimes wonder if all the talk about how stretched a&e is (which I know it is) will stop people who really go need to go (like OP’s DS) from going.

glad you’re home op. I bet those lollies helped his poor throat. Hope he’s better soon.

Thank you ☺️☺️

I bloody love this site sometimes! You all provided me with a distraction / reassurance when I was sat waiting and DS was sleeping! So thank you!!
