I worked on the reception of a car dealership/garage when I was still at schools Worked weekends, one night a week and then full time in school holidays.
I’d never had a birthday party so encouraged by some lovely work friends I had a big party planned for my next one. The invitation was up on the noticeboard in the canteen.
Came in one day of the holidays and got called into a meeting with the big big boss. They’d phoned in the morning, but after I left for the bus so my Nana (who I lived with) was there already. Big boss, Nana, my boss, a woman from a scheme and two police officers.
The garage was part of a scheme whereby people nearing the very end of their sentence had a day release type thing. Gave them a reference and the likes. They came in weekly for a few months. The woman in charge of the current guy had come in for something and spotted my invitation. Turned out they weren’t aware of any female staff under 18.
I got questions in that meeting, and later with the two police officers (both female) about the guy - had he asked me lots of questions, had he ever asked where I lived, or appeared on my walk to/from the bus station.
Never found out what he did, but my bosses organised for one of the mechanics to take me too and from work for three months after, and I never walked to the bus station on a dark evening for the two years I worked there. They also withdrew from the scheme.
What sort-pf amused me after was how everyone started saying the guy was creepy and they’d never liked him. For me the creepy bit was that he wasn’t. Remotely. He was a nice seemingly-normal guy that rang no bells for anyone (I don’t believe the post-revelation announcements - people in that place were quick to say if they didn’t like someone).
