So embarrassing! What is wrong with me!

Oh my gosh ..

So last week I pulled up to costa drive thru, ordered my coffee, went to next window to pay, then .. drove off!! Completely forgot my coffee 🤣☕

Today, I drove up to the SAME Costa drive thru, ordered my MCDONALD'S cheeseburger and coke (🙆🤷) only to be rightly told 'sorry, this is Costa?) SHIT. Then I drove off to McDonald's so I could order in the right place!

What the hec is going on!! What is wrong with me? I THINK I have just had a lot on my mind recently, and was preoccupied in my own head!

BUT...I'm starting to worry. Please tell me I'm not the only one doing stupid things like this? Or (and while this is a slightly humourous thread I am actually a little bit genuinely worried) should I be concerned??

OP I could have written your posts, word for word. Lost that sharp feeling and great memory I always prided myself on. It's really really disconcerting.

Could be menopause. could be other (also non-scary stuff) eg vitamin B12 deficiency. Why not get a check up / bloods done?

But you are most definitely not alone.

Thanks! Yeah, I might just do that 👍

I think you just have a lot on your mind and need a break.

tigger1001 · 09/11/2022 17:22

I had brain fog, to the point I was seriously thinking it was early onset dementia. Thankfully it was peri menopause and now on hrt which has helped.

When I said the above to the doctor she said that's a common feeling.

ilovepixie · 09/11/2022 17:24

I phoned the dentist to make a doctors appointment 😂😂

Ps. Also, can I ever go back to this Costa? Sooo embarrassed 😳

Well you already have, to order a McDonalds 😂

Ifnottodaywhen · 09/11/2022 17:27

Quite possibly peri. I'm 45 and have just gone onto hrt. It's like playing charades with me in a conversation as I try and act out the word I've forgotten. Forgot the word for growth and was just going 'the thing a plant does when it moves to the sky'. With hand motions. 🙄😂

ilovepixie · 09/11/2022 17:27

I work in a shop and the amount of people forgetting their pin, forgetting to pay, forgetting their cash back even forgetting their shopping is shocking! A man once forgot to take his baby!

ilovepixie · 09/11/2022 17:30

Oh and I went to collect my click and collect asda order and kissed the Asda guy goodbye!

ilovepixie · 09/11/2022 17:32

Tried to get into my car in the car park. Noticed a child screaming in horror on the back seat yelling stranger danger help! Wasn't my car!

Toomanysleepycats · 09/11/2022 17:33

Yesterday I decided to get online for our joint bank accounts. I downloaded the NatWest app and started getting very very frustrated it wouldn’t recognise my bank account number.

It took me far too long to remember I don’t bank with NatWest, it’s HSBC!!!

Ive always liked the excuse that’s it’s not a poor memory, it’s just that you’ve got too much going on to remember it all.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 09/11/2022 17:35

It's absolutely fine, we still laugh and remind DS17 about the time he asked for McNuggets in KFC 🤭

Oneofthosewsillydays · 09/11/2022 17:37

Oh no @Freeeezing are you not just tired/exhausted or stressed out? I always get scatter brained when I'm either of those things!

Oneofthosewsillydays · 09/11/2022 17:39

I asked for a 'caramel macchiato' in Cafe Nero. To be fair the girl was lovely and asked if I wanted it just like Starbuck's! ,🤭

Ihateboris · 09/11/2022 17:44

It happens to us all. I took my car for an MOT to a garage which is a few minutes walk away from my office. Dropped it off in the morning on my way to the office, and asked that they ring me when it was ready to collect. Received a call at lunch time to say ready. Told boss I was just nipping out to collect car. Got to the garage, had a chat with the lovely receptionist, returned to the office and the phone was ringing. It was the lovely receptionist telling me I'd forgotten to collect my car. This is the reason I don't have any children 😂

BearSoFair · 09/11/2022 17:48

At least you accepted you had the wrong place, I've answered the phone at work with "Good morning, [Store Name], how can I help?" and had someone adamantly argue that we were McDonalds! "Are you SURE?!" yes, yes I'm quite sure of where I work Grin

mamabear715 · 09/11/2022 18:13

@ilovepixie

Kissing the Asda guy!
Wriggles with mirth! ;-)

Topseyt123 · 09/11/2022 18:14

You are not alone. I too would think perimenopause/menopause brain. I am 56 now and have become increasingly scatterbrained since my mid forties. My memory definitely isn't as good as it was, although may be improving slightly now, I hope anyway.

The number of times I go upstairs, into another room, even from one end of the kitchen to the other and simply cannot remember what I wanted when I get there. I have to go back to my starting point to remind myself and do it all over again.

makemeamum · 09/11/2022 18:21

Costa coffee worker here.

This happened everyday. Don't worry about it 😂

This is me!

I’ve been tested and apparently I’m not peri but dear god the number of words I’ve forgotten during conversations!

Don't want to bring the tone down but I actually avoid talking to people outside of my family now cos I just clam up and get embarrassed when I can’t remember the simplest of words

Oneofthosewsillydays · 09/11/2022 18:30

'I just clam up and get embarrassed when I can’t remember the simplest of words.'

@TulipTuesday this happens to me too, pleased to see I'm not alone! The others mothers on the school run must think I'm crazy 😂 I have it in my head and just cannot get it out, then change the subject!

Got up this morning to find I'd left a lamp on all night in the living room. I'd left the clothes I'd taken off the airer, on the work top in the utility room, hadn't put them in their usual place. Went to put makeup on twice. All minor things, but constantHmm
