So embarrassing! What is wrong with me!

Oh my gosh ..

So last week I pulled up to costa drive thru, ordered my coffee, went to next window to pay, then .. drove off!! Completely forgot my coffee 🤣☕

Today, I drove up to the SAME Costa drive thru, ordered my MCDONALD'S cheeseburger and coke (🙆🤷) only to be rightly told 'sorry, this is Costa?) SHIT. Then I drove off to McDonald's so I could order in the right place!

What the hec is going on!! What is wrong with me? I THINK I have just had a lot on my mind recently, and was preoccupied in my own head!

BUT...I'm starting to worry. Please tell me I'm not the only one doing stupid things like this? Or (and while this is a slightly humourous thread I am actually a little bit genuinely worried) should I be concerned??

li tried to log in to a zoom medical appointment for one of my kids and couldnt make it work. I am not the best so I spent ages ringing round trying to sort it only to realise it wasnt until the next day ! Felt a right fool !

SallyWD · 09/11/2022 14:02

I do stuff like this all the time. I'm 47. The other I was at the supermarket. I loaded all my shopping on to the belt. Then before it had been scanned (whilst the cashier was still dealing with the previous customer) I packed all my shopping in to my bags! I got some very odd looks. I have a real sense of brain fog lately. Always putting things in random places etc.

girlmom21 · 09/11/2022 14:04

OP I don't want to take away from the lighthearted nature of the thread but you should speak to your doctor.

Mummacake · 09/11/2022 14:04

Another one for perimenopause /busy/stress. Take some time out & take care of yourself Flowers

whynotwhatknot · 09/11/2022 14:12

Ive done things like this-well was a self service till (hate them) in poundland and waloked off with my stuff without paying-realised before id left and ran back to the till apologising profusely to the one staff memberstanding there

she laughed and said at least you came back many dont

aintnothinbutagstring · 09/11/2022 14:13

I used to do things like that when my dc were little - I think stress and too much to think about at one time. I once left a big bag of paid for shopping at a Boots self service till - didn't realise til I got home and was so embarrassed. But I'm sure lots of people do it - auto pilot thinking!

tulips27 · 09/11/2022 14:19

B12 deficiency? Could always ask GP to rule it out.

LookItsMeAgain · 09/11/2022 14:23

That's brilliant OP.

I'll do one better. My employer has recently invested in setting up some beehives on the roof of our office building. I was in a meeting yesterday with some colleagues and one of them showed us a person tending to the hives and the bees (in all their protective clothing) and I asked was that the Hive Master??? 😊

I then had to ask...yes...ask what the correct name for someone who looks after bees is called! I mean FFS! Cue the room erupting in laughter at my "Hive Master" suggestion and how dim I was not remembering about a bee keeper.

I have known since I was a little child what they are called.

I really meant to say Bee Keeper but for some reason, I could only say Hive Master. 😆

spiderlight · 09/11/2022 14:33

"Hive Master" is a much cooler name though!! I want to get some bees now, just so I can call myself that!

saltinesandcoffeecups · 09/11/2022 14:46

Hah… these are cute. I have periods of autopilot and doing things like this. Not age related for me. Just means I need to pay more attention to life.

courgettigreensadwater · 09/11/2022 14:49

@freckles20 and @LookItsMeAgain haha. The chicken and pudding mix up and the hive master cracked me up. Definitely a menopause thing too, I'm 45 and tbf although intelligent, have always been a bit like this, it's got worse. Went to a McDonald's drive through for my DS and instead of saying thank you took the food and said loudly love you. 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️

DomesticShortHair · 09/11/2022 14:51

I do things like this. It’s because I’m thinking of the next thing that I need to do (or the next ten things) rather than thinking of the actual thing that I’m doing. For me, it’s all about focus, or more accurately, lack of focus.

However, even though I know this, it doesn’t stop me doing it unfortunately.

mamabear715 · 09/11/2022 14:59

@courgettigreensadwater I managed to get through all the posts without laughing out loud until I got to yours! ;-)

mamabear715 · 09/11/2022 15:00

A lot of it is stress & having too many things to think about.
I used to be on a widows' forum & we called it widow brain.. driving off with handbags on car roof & the like..

Sunbun19 · 09/11/2022 15:04

Not quite the same but at my local costa the other day I completely misjudged the car to window ratio and ended up having to fully get out of the car to pay and get my coffee, massive queue behind me 😵

OoooohMatron · 09/11/2022 15:06

I also think perimenopause. I'm 43 and I'm so forgetful and easily at the moment. I never used to be like thus.

courgettigreensadwater · 09/11/2022 15:07

@mamabear715 🤣 my two teenage DS found it pretty funny too 🤦🏻‍♀️

OoooohMatron · 09/11/2022 15:07

*easily distracted. See I told you 🤣

JuneOsborne · 09/11/2022 13:35

Wait till you find your keys in the fridge.

I know! I'm often perplexed at how many things I mislay.

Thereisnolight · 09/11/2022 15:42

Another one here.
Autopilot thinking. Turning the wrong way out of the gate while taking the DC to school, forgetting where I’ve parked, almost leaving the dog in the car, forgetting which day of the week it is, no idea what I did yesterday etc.
I also forget names of people and places a lot, though not names of objects. It is disconcerting.
Step one is when you can’t remember what a pen is called.
Step two is when you can’t remember what a pen is for…that’s when you know you’re in trouble.

Memorypause.

Since hitting 44 I've done more and more of this stuff.

Yesterday I arrived for my click and collect order at 8am. It was booked for 8pm.

On Sunday I made a paprika chicken bake and a nutmeg rice pudding. They turned out to be a nutmeg chicken bake and a paprika rice pudding. I do not recommend either.

Thank god it's not just me!

Bluekerfuffle · 09/11/2022 16:13

Probably just that you’ve had a lot on your mind recently. I think these things happen to everyone, I know I’ve done some silly stuff over the years. I wouldn’t be worrying enough to speak to your doctor yet after two incidents. I’m not sure how much help they would be anyway, I keep seeing it suggested in various threads and think either I’ve got a really crap set of GPs or the people who suggest it must be living in a dream world if they think they’ll do anything useful.

my cinnamon lives in a different cupboard to all other herbs and spices after too many near misses with paprika in porridge!!

Wait till you find your keys in the fridge.

Or glasses in the deep freeze in my case.

Freeeezing · 09/11/2022 16:45

ScarierThanBoo · 09/11/2022 13:50

Oh op, it could be so much worse. I drove to McDonald's on my new-never-driven-it-before mobility scooter. Fucking thing does 13mph and I drove into a full size glass fence panel and it fell to the floor in one piece but it had that anti shatter tape on it. I left my insurance details etc but I haven't been back since and it has been 2 years.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
