I just wish there was a fair crack for all our sons and daughters to get theses opportunities 🤢

Getting on tv isn't all about hard work and talent. There's so many
People trying to mAke it. It's a real tiny
Minority who have success

And it is annoying to see the same talentless twerps on everything

monsteramunch · 07/11/2022 21:52

@OnABreeze

Kate Moss' niece and daughter (both of whom have no redeeming modelling features. Kate Moss' daughter looks like the Dad definitely doesn't have her Mum's model looks.

'No redeeming modelling features'. What a lovely thing to say about someone.

Nepotism may be the reason she's broken into modelling at the level she has but her daughter absolutely does have 'model looks'... maybe you've been looking at the wrong person or something.

Is it just me or is Lila Moss quite short. So is Leni Samuel - Heidi Klum's daughter. I'd be very annoyed if my mother was a glamazon and I couldn't even reach the top shelf to get the jam.

Kate Moss isn't that tall.

So is actually too short to be a catwalk model.

That’s hilarious. There are barely any BBC jobs open to the general public. I have friends that work there. Literally every opening goes to family or friends.

It really doesn’t. I used to work there and got the job by the very normal method of applying for it from a listing on their careers site. I didn’t know anyone working there and wasn’t related to anyone in showbiz. I’m not saying nepotism doesn’t happen - it absolutely does - but to say that nearly EVERYONE working at the BBC is there by connections only is nonsense. They’re actually quite good at trying to increase diversity in hiring.

Kate's hair is much more wavy with lots of potential of styling, Lila's not so much, hers is completely straight and not as full. I think Lila is more beautiful than her mum though just not as great hair.

You’ve shown you have no idea about modelling. The straightness or thinness of someone’s hair wouldn’t make a bit of difference when it comes to modelling. They would create the style they needed with hairpieces etc. There’s plenty of female models with super short hair. Did you ever watch NTM, they pretty much cut all the models hair. The industry is changing massively, whilst they still want stick thin & tall for runway they want more average looking people for a lot of modelling now because that’s what the customer demand. Men are plus size models too now, a male model doesn’t need a 6 pack to be a model. They can have tattoo’s & piercings etc too. To say someone doesn’t make a good model because you think their hair is straighter than their mums hair is laughable

I get more annoyed at the sports star/ singers turned presenters. What about all the young people broadcasting? Why does being a footballer mean you can present a show?

That girl who does a quiz show is terrible

What kind of work experience does a doctor's child enjoy?🙄 A bit of light surgery on a weekend??

I'd presume that children of talented people inherit talent so they would be already ahead of the game.

They get to shadow people in hospitals and clinics.

Though to be fair if you go to the right schools, including state schools, or do the right hobbies you can do that as well.

Wexone · 07/11/2022 21:57

@UneFoisAuChalet totally agree. Greg from love Island got a prime breakfast radio gig here in Ireland after he won. God he was terrible. same with maura Higgins presenter of a make up talent show..God she was brutal. shame as it was a good TV show.
nepotism is in every industry. its not what you know its who you know that's gets you the opportunities. if it wasn't for an old boss poaching me I wouldn't be in the job am in at mo. however it's througn my hard work that I have stayed so long. you need to actively be looking the whole time. use every opportunity get out there make contacts. that's how it works

@susan12345678 My point exactly our kids don’t get off the starting block

Well they won’t succeed with that attitude.

This is one presenter with a famous parent. Only one. The rest (as far as I’m aware, I don’t watch it) have achieved the position on their own merit.

There are plenty of opportunities for everyone but your kids have to want it and be prepared to put the work in. If they think they gave no chance they won’t even try. If your kids aren’t accessing opportunities I would look closer to home for the reasons before blaming Roman Kemp.

Heidi Klum is tall though and yes Kate Mosses daughter is average with money.

Luredbyapomegranate · 07/11/2022 22:00

Life isn't fair. People's connections have opened doors since the dawn of time.
Nepotism isn't remotely new.

I work in TV and there are - slowly - efforts being made to address lack of diversity.

However, it is untrue to say your son doesn't have a chance. Plenty of people get on with no connections - I did.

What does he actually want to do. what has he done to get it, and what problems is he facing? It takes a loooong time to get a job like presenting the One Show. No one goes from 0 to 60, regardless of who their Dad is.

Both.

No they don't. Like the PP who's already pulled you up, I have worked for and with the BBC for 23 years.

Stop making up rubbish.

Soreztee · 07/11/2022 22:12

Gah - so many people pointing out the Royal Family, like that proves that the OP is foolish in expecting more equality of opportunity when in fact it’s the monarchy is the very definition of inequality; a beacon of what is wrong.

and the medics? They don’t need to take their offspring in to surgery; they expose their child formally and informally to how the system works. There is no gene for becoming a medic.

funnelfanjo · 07/11/2022 22:17

David Dimbleby’s dad was a war reporter for the BBC in WW2. His brother is also in broadcasting. Nepotism has been going on for bloody years.

So David Dimbleby has no talent?

CJsGoldfish · 07/11/2022 22:18

Nepotism is rife in the UK
Nepotism has existed forever and wherever there are humans 🤷‍♀️

As a parent, I want my kids to have every opportunity I can give them. Unfortunately, that's not a whole lot. If it was, I certainly wouldn't 'not' provide opportunities because some jealous women on an internet forum think it's NOT FAIR! Neither would any of you 🙄

It is what it is. I'm where I am because of the choices I made or didn't make. My children have the opportunities they have because that's how it goes. I'd rather focus on lifting them up and instil in them the desire and ability to make the most of every opportunity, no matter how small it may seem. Why would I not? For every 'celebrities kid' with a great job, there are many, many more who did not have that start but still 'made it'. Perhaps their parents were right there behind them rather than moaning that 'it's not fair'?

And for all of those that bring up the Beckhams...it's really not the point you think you're making. All that money and opportunity but no actual talent to 'make it'. Having the money to do it isn't the same thing 🤷‍♀️

faultyshowers · 07/11/2022 22:18

I think being on a reality show seems to be the key to a successful media career these days. Lots of ex Big Brother and Love Island contestants have gone on to do presenting, radio work and other media work

TalkisChips · 07/11/2022 22:22

Lila Moss is pretty but no different from half the girls wondering round town on a Saturday afternoon.

I feel like I roll my eyes every time I watch a film to find that the lead character is the director’s daughter or that the children of Hollywood stars are all actors. Of course they are.

Fcuk38 · 07/11/2022 22:23

I’m sure I recall Roman kemp saying that he didn’t want to be thought of as the son of someone and actually did every job including being a cleaner rather than in the industry. But that’s where is heart obvs was and that’s where he has ended up. He also did that documentary didn’t he about his male friend committing suicide.

Sharkbite79 · 07/11/2022 22:25

Christine Lampard was well known working for BBC NI twenty years ago and moved to London to work on the One Show way before she met Lampard from what I remember!

Huntswomanonthemove · 07/11/2022 22:27

The very last thing I would want for my child, is fame of any sort.

Soreztee · 07/11/2022 22:27

Dimbleby, the Snows, even the blooming Ramsay’s. It can be clear cut (only got the gig because of famous parent) or it can be more insidious, favours and networking and knowledge. Yes, it has gone on for years. It doesn’t make it right. Is Dan Snow an inept presenter, lacking knowledge or ability? No he is not. Would he have got a tv gig straight out of Uni without his Dad? No he would not. There would have been a stream of history grads with equivalent or greater talent, they just didn’t get the opportunity to try out. This is why we need levelling up.

They might have the name but without actual talent it doesn't matter. You only have to look at the car crashes of their lives.
