To think if someone is four inches taller than you that is not short

SleepDreamThinkHuge · 07/11/2022 16:17

in relative terms?

I was talking to a friend who said he met a girl who was 5 feet 2 and he is just over 5 foot 6 she said she liked everything about him, but he is "too short for her."

I told him height is relative. For his height, someone who is between 5 feet to 5 feet 3 it is not really too short because it is still a significant difference. I have heard other stories from friends as well another guy who is about 5 feet 9 and a girl who is 5 feet 3 thinks, he is too short for her. Is it me or if someone is a few inches taller than you at least that should not be classed as short speaking in relative terms?

@OohMrBingley I think the op is a 5ft 6 man. This person has posted a few times about this same issue

I most definitely am not.

If there are people rocking round at 5'6" and feeling short I do feel sorry for them actually.

I always read these threads because it's weirdly satisfying reading threads about people being SO SHORT and they're a height you aspire to Grin

If he is I hope he's been reassured that some women might still date him despite his height.
Just unfortunately for him, not every woman he might want or feel entitled to.

Ah. Just searched OP's username - he seems to have a particular focus on 5'6 men and insisting they're not short.

Now I think the original post is a made up scenario designed to garner opinions on men who are 5'6.

Jalepenojello · 07/11/2022 19:39

I like a height difference and 5”6 would be “too” short for me. It’s just a preference. A short person is still allowed to consider other people short 😂 it’s just an opinion

OnABreeze · 07/11/2022 19:40

I'm 5'2 and a guy under 6ft is too short for my preference. That doesn't mean he's not taller than me, just not tall enough for my taste.

5ft6 is also quite short for a man.

OnABreeze · 07/11/2022 19:44

Also just because someone is short doesn't mean they can't want a tall boyfriend. Some men like petite women instead of leggy model types. Are they not allowed to because they can't date short people?

Your logic is completely illogical.

Goldenbear · 07/11/2022 19:47

I agree OP as you are stating a preference but the preference is a bit insulting as it is 'undesirable', it is not the same at all as a preference for hair colour for example as this doesn't have the negative association. Not all preferences are 'ok' to voice. If you are a short woman then perhaps you wouldn't be pleased with a man stating his preference for someone of an average height. I am 5ft6 and DH only 5ft8 so to me this is fine.

Whosedogisitanyway · 07/11/2022 19:50

Yeah, height preferences aren't relative. I am a decent height and I like shorter guys, never dated or fancied anyone above 5'8". If I woke up tomorrow and grew seven inches I wouldn't suddenly be into guys seven inches taller than the day before. I've dated guys shorter than me, no big deal. I know I'm in the minority on that one though.

pimlicoanna · 07/11/2022 19:51

@MollieMarie yea and hoping but failing each time to get the response they want.

CuriousEats · 07/11/2022 19:53

I'm 5' 2". Rishi is still too short for me.

TheOrigRights · 07/11/2022 20:34

OP, you do seem to be very interested in height. You've started a few similar threads on the very same subject.

OK.

So.

Why are you so invested, then?

100% male from their posts, agreed, and likely on the shorter side!

Clawdy · 07/11/2022 23:32

So height is more important than looks? Some people on here would prefer an ugly tall guy to a shorter good-looking guy?

Where do you get that?

I’m very much assuming people want both (bearing in mind, beauty is in the eye of the beholder).

MadelineUsher · 08/11/2022 00:37

SleepDreamThinkHuge · 07/11/2022 16:27

I understand but I am thinking relatively. 3-4 inches is still significant difference. For me "short" would mean same height or shorter.

It would seem - and this may come as a shock - that you are not her.

This is your fourth post about height, so I rather think you are.

SleepingStandingUp · 08/11/2022 01:48

Maybe your friend just isn't they interesting and she was trying to let him down less painfully

GarlandsinGreece · 08/11/2022 02:18

I’m an anomaly. I’m 5’7.5 and prefer men my height to around 5’10, although I do like them to be in serious shape. But above all else, personality, a great sense of humor and intelligence are far more important to me than height.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 08/11/2022 02:31

my sister is shorter than average at 5'1". Her husband is 5'7" which is fine.

However, their children are tiny. Their elder daughter is 19 and not quite 5'. Their younger one is 15, probably stopped growing, and is 5' exactly.

JustWork · 08/11/2022 02:54

Well OP she is entitled to her preference and everyone else is entitled to think that she is shallow and immature. Looks like 5'6 guy dodged a bullet really.

StopsWalkingToSneeze · 08/11/2022 06:11

I’ve always been heightist, I don’t know why. I’m 5’7” and I just find 6’+ men more attractive. I’ve even said out loud “look at him” not within earshot of the tall person I have to add. Even someone not conventionally good looking I find attractive if they’re 6’6” kind of height. My husband is 6’2”, our DD is 5’10” and DS is 6’4” if they brought home someone under 5’5” I wouldn’t say anything but I would be gutted. It’s my issue and I admit it’s shallow and wrong so I usually keep it to myself.

100% if he’s over 6’6”
