….to get pleasure from something really childish? (lighthearted!)!

It’s raining BUCKETS here….so loads of huge puddles and standing water on the roads out here in t’country. I’m in my late fifties but I just LOVE driving through big puddles and making a huge splash (assuming it’s safe to do so, ie a quiet road, no pedestrians nearby & no front gardens etc to flood by me doing it). Does anyone else get a childish pleasure from doing something you really ought to have grown out of by now?!

I still love popping bubble wrap though sometimes (!!!) I share it with DD.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 07/11/2022 11:09

Its never safe to drive through big puddles it causes aquaplaning and you can lose control of the car, plus you cant see the road condition under the puddle which could cause damage to the car.

midgetastic · 07/11/2022 11:12

I like jumping in puddles

That also isn't safe - you can't see the bottom and may break a leg and if there is no one around you might then die or hypothermia

BogRollBOGOF · 07/11/2022 11:12

I wouldn't splash through in the car for safety reasons, but if you're already soggy, splashing and kicking through puddles like a small child is game on 😁

minimadgirl · 07/11/2022 11:15

Driving through , no I wouldn't, but only as I drive a classic mini and it would splutter to a stop 10 seconds later.
Jumping madly through puddles, oh most defintely, also running crazily through piles of leaves.

While I'm waiting for the kettle to boil I sometimes take a knife from the drawer, hold the blade on the counter and twang it so it makes that boiiiiing noise.
I am easily amused.

SoupDragon · 07/11/2022 11:18

I love driving through puddles like that. I do make sure I only clip the edge of them though rather than drive straight through with both wheels for safety reasons.

carefulcalculator · 07/11/2022 11:20

I love cycling through puddles.

AShepherdsTale · 07/11/2022 11:22

I love colouring in!! Does that count?
I also love playing dolls… doing their hair and dressing them up. Only had a DS, so it never happened - but I was very popular when I helped out at a playgroup years ago🤣
I do try to ‘style’ the dogs fur when I’m brushing her… but she shakes herself and it’s all gone!

dementedma · 07/11/2022 11:22

I like:
Blowing dandelion clocks
Having ladybirds walk on me
Popping bubblewrap
Rattling a stick along railings
Making snowangels
Catching falling leaves
Smashing the ice in the birdbath
Using an icicle to sword fight with ds

When putting petrol in my car I get a childish pleasure from getting the purchase indicator to stop on exactly x pounds.

Getting harder as the prices have risen lol! 😊😊😊

Kicking through fallen autumn leaves out walking when I 'have' to. Very enjoyable it is.

BeingHeldAtHunPoint · 07/11/2022 11:26

I really want to kick through piles of fallen leaves but I’m too afraid to end up covered in dog muck these days.

When it snows, I happily step off the well worn path to crunch my feet into the virgin snow.

AShepherdsTale · 07/11/2022 11:29

@BeingHeldAtHunPoint

Agree with both your points!
I was never allowed to kick up leaves as a child cos of the ‘poo problem’ but I do now!🍁 And definitely love stepping in the virgin snow!!

peonyprincess · 07/11/2022 11:30

Ooh, I love all these!!! (Goes off to try & boiiiiiing a knife...)

YANBU. My husband has a big 4 x 4 he uses for work. Yesterday we had some good fun driving through the big puddles on the single lane country roads to see if we could get the water over the top of the car. We'd never do it if there was a chance of anyone being around but in the right circumstances, it's a bit of fun.

blobby10 · 07/11/2022 11:32

I LOVE kicking my way through fallen leaves but only if they are dry and crisp!! Also love the crunching of virgin snow.

I also like standing in the sea ankle deep and letting the waves come in then watching my feet sink into the sand as the sea goes in and out.

Used to love driving through puddles years ago when we had a Discovery - the angle of the bumper meant a truly awesome bow wave came up over the bonnet and windscreen!! It wasn't even a deep puddle Grin

Frogsalad · 07/11/2022 11:34

In the mornings I like to race the kettle when I'm peeing. Prep the cups first, fill kettle with the water I need, flick switch, run to loo, pee, wash hands, race back to see if I can beat the boil.

I also drive a 4x4, and am clearly not going to do it at 70mph or with any other cars around or anything, so I keep it perfectly safe 👌

Kicking conkers, or my most favourite crabapples when I spot them on the pavement. Not too hard that they fly off, I love to keep them in the centre of the payment to give another little boot.

Inserting bottles into the bottle bank so that they smash.

nb obviously only at banks in noisy areas, such as the recycling centre.

Bigslippers · 07/11/2022 11:51

Everytime I turn a light off in a room I look at the lightbulb and BLOW at the same time I flick the switch

It stemmed from when my DC where little and I would do it to amuse them at bedtime… now over 30 years later I still do it

TheOrigRights · 07/11/2022 11:53

Some of you lot should take up cross country running. We had our first race in the winter league yesterday.
Essentially it's an official way to run through mud and get completely soaked to your core and then get the buzz afterwards.
Someone asked me if I'd fallen over there was so much mud up my back!
