Guardian reporting that the rcn strike has resulted in a yes vote and we'll be striking before Christmas.

Patient's emergency care will be protected but it's a strike vote

Yes. There is a terrible staffing crisis impacting on care. Maybe if the strike is successful more people will join and more importantly stay in the profession. Which will improve working conditions and again decrease burn out, decrease resignations and inmprove care.

Coffeaddict · 05/11/2022 20:15

Yes nurses pay and conditions are shockingly bad

Perfect28 · 05/11/2022 20:16

Good for them. I hope this continues across the public sector. Time to stand up.

Kitesk · 05/11/2022 20:16

Yes! HCA are voting too.... I'm posting mine off tomorrow.

MyLovelyPen · 05/11/2022 20:17

Yes - we’re right behind you. Go nurses!

NameChangeLifeChange · 05/11/2022 20:17

Fully behind them. Nursing is paid terribly in this country compared to virtually every other developed nation. We don’t have safe staffing levels and the level of education and expectation is ridiculously high for the frankly insulting pay. I’ll be out there on the picket line.

bakewellbride · 05/11/2022 20:18

Yes

SavoirFlair · 05/11/2022 20:18

Yes. 100%. Hope they get the result they truly deserve. Solidarity.

jeffbezoz · 05/11/2022 20:20

Yes! Power in the people!!!

shivawn · 05/11/2022 20:21

Absolutely. We had a nurses strike in Ireland 3 or 4 years ago and it improved things a lot.

ofwarren · 05/11/2022 20:21

Yes
It does scare me though because my family relies on the NHS a lot with frequent hospital stays and treatments but I don't see what else they can do.

MichelleScarn · 05/11/2022 20:21

So people are saying nurses can't strike too important..... but accept the crappy pay and conditions please?

Potatomashed · 05/11/2022 20:21

100%. Need to make sure the media don’t report this as a salary grab but instead taking a stand against insane working conditions, terrible staffing and poor conditions for patients. We need urgent investment

DelorisVC · 05/11/2022 20:22

I'm behind them.

Exasperatednow · 05/11/2022 20:22

Yes. Government has uncapped bankers bonuses. We value people who push paper and electronic money around more than people who do a job who make a difference to society. We've got something very wrong..

Scarecrowrowboat · 05/11/2022 20:22

Support 100%, we can't keep losing nurses at the current rate.

Shouldbedoing · 05/11/2022 20:24

I believe we're at the point where lives are endangered by NHS staff trying to cover the shortfall, so only significant protest can save lives.

norbert23 · 05/11/2022 20:25

Yes absolutely x

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 05/11/2022 20:25

I'm waiting for surgery that will require an inpatient stay, and I'm under the care of an outpatient nursing team. Strikes will definitely delay and affect the care I receive.

I'm fully behind a strike. Nurses (and HCAs) have awful pay and conditions and it's not right. Fuck all recognition and they're not even able to go to the bloody loo when they need to - it's a disgrace.
Staff leaving in droves, to work in unskilled roles for more money and better hours. Completely unsustainable.

lolalouisa84 · 05/11/2022 20:26

Yes. Nursing in its current state is dangerous to both nurses and patients. They arent just striking for pay. They are striking for conditions and legal safe staffing that can be enforced

SwordToFlamethrower · 05/11/2022 20:27

Of course I do! They are leaving in droves. Without fair pay and good working conditions, there won't be any nurses to care for us, then where would we be???

They've been asking politely for years. This is the last resort.

Support nurses otherwise we are all royally screwed!

EngTech · 05/11/2022 20:27

There comes a point when enough is enough and you vote by withdrawing your labour

That focuses minds especially if it ends up in the media

Sad fact of life though and it will impact people but the NHS is on it knees and it is not just about money though

noblegiraffe · 05/11/2022 20:27

Good for them.

WhiteRabbitCandy · 05/11/2022 20:28

100% behind them. Their pay is abysmal for what they do

PurBal · 05/11/2022 20:28

Do I support better conditions for nurses? Yes, absolutely.
Do I support a reduction in patient care (emergency or otherwise) in an already stretched sector? No.
But I also can’t suggest an alternative to striking, so I suppose I’m stumped.
