Last night stayed overnight in a City Centre hotel and a family all came down to breakfast wearing their pyjamas, looking like they had all jumped out of bed , it was 9am so still had time to shower and dress before breakfast finished , AIBU to think this is not appropriate

YABU. None of your business is it?

We’re still free to judge, though. 😉

Tessabelle74 · 06/11/2022 18:28

@Bogeyes brace yourself, I get dressed before I go down for breakfast WITHOUT SHOWERING!!!! YE GODS!!! I prefer to shower more leisurely AFTER breakfast. There's also more shocking news for you, NOT EVERYONE SHOWERS EVERY DAY!!! You could be standing next to a minger, right now!!!

Artygirlghost · 06/11/2022 18:32

Not something I would do.

I would understand a child doing this maybe, but adults? I think it is just lazy and shows a complete lack of etiquette.

I have never seen anyone do this in a hotel I must say.

Sennelier1 · 06/11/2022 18:38

Depends on the class of the hotel. A family-hotel, why not. A classy 5-star place, maybe not.😊

DonnaB5859 · 06/11/2022 18:39

I do not like it at all. Many times these people have not washed up or combed hair.

OohMrBingley · 06/11/2022 17:40

Are you coming back to the thread you started @waltty?

I have been reading responses with interest, as I initially asked, was I being unreasonable to think it is unacceptable for a family to come down to breakfast in a hotel all wearing pyjamas, not sure what I can respond , I was not going to get into a argument to op who disagree with me. Thread just shows many of us have different opinions for many different reasons .

Oh god the pearl clutching is hilarious. 😂

I’ve managed hotels and I genuinely wouldn’t give a shit if my guests wanted to eat breakfast in their pjs. I’d be happy that they felt comfortable enough to do so.

All the posters sucking wasps over it and saying “hotels shouldn’t allow it” - why not? Do you only stay in uptight business hotels or something? I’d far rather run a friendly hotel where my guests feel at home.

EadnothTheStaller · 06/11/2022 18:47

I don't even come down to breakfast in my pjs at home. Wasn't allowed to as a child and I still can't do it now, however, I realise that many people will find this odd as it seems a lot of people get into their pjs the minute they get home.

So yes, the idea of people going out in public in their pjs does slightly horrify me, although I can't explain exactly why. And I also think, well maybe times just change and once upon a time there was a generation of people who were scandalised that people had started going out in public without hats and gloves.

So I don't know what is right or wrong here. I know I will never be able to go out in public in my pjs, that's about it.

Mumontour85 · 06/11/2022 18:47

Personally, I wouldn't go out in actual pj's, joggers sure but not my Harry Potter pajamas!!

However, I wouldn't moan and bitch about it. I think just do you and mind your business. How does it actually affect you or your life?!

Same with everyone that moans about school run non-existent dress code... get a life. You dont have the full story of that persons life and dont have the right to judge anyone just for doing life differently to what you consider acceptable!

LovelyIssues · 06/11/2022 18:50

Totally normal xx

I can go a week without brushing my hair 🤷🏼‍♀️😆

TurquoiseDress · 06/11/2022 18:53

Yep YANBU

It takes 2 minutes to stick some clothes

We were in a hotel recently, west London, there were a group who came down clearly in pyjamas one had fluffy slippers

I mean, each to their own etc, but come on am I BU to suggest they make a bit of effort and just put some clothes on?! Confused

''pearl clutching''?

''sucking wasps''?

''Uptight''?

Maybe some further customer service training is in order...

Because most people realistically will take the time to dress before they come down to breakfast and will expect other guests to do the same.

Hardly the best thing to do as a manager to use that language to describe these people since they will always be the majority of your customers and therefore the ones who will keep any hotel you might be employed by in business.

Or you might just need to advertise the fact that you only want slobs as guests. I am sure that will make the hotel a lot of money...

TurquoiseDress · 06/11/2022 18:57

At the time, DH just laughed when we noticed but I would never have expressed any opinion on it elsewhere...until I saw this post! Grin

Sooziewoozie · 06/11/2022 18:58

The older I get, the less surprised I am about people. They are trolls! It’s inappropriate!

SuperCamp · 06/11/2022 19:00

YANBU.

Bed clothes are for bed and the eyes of your own family, not the general public.

It’s generally slovenly.

But like most aspects of ‘manners’, ‘etiquette’ and ‘standards’ there is no real actual harm to others so I’m prepared to keep my eye rolls to myself.

SuperCamp · 06/11/2022 19:03

(If I ran a hotel I would have a dress code in the dining room and lounge: no swim wear, no pyjamas)

bluebellmay2020 · 06/11/2022 19:05

I didn't realise it was such a big issue to so many. I'd never go to breakfast in pj's but I wouldn't necessarily brush my teeth first (would do that afterwards). I am curious though, what is acceptable attire for a hotel breakfast?

threatmatrix · 06/11/2022 19:06

LaughingCat · 06/11/2022 18:17

This made me howl. Right on. Respect 😁

I could possibly be accused of being quite dramatic with that response but I would wear them.

Onlyforcake · 06/11/2022 19:07

You're being ridiculous. 100% cotton joggers and a hoodie, fine. 100% cotton t shirt and thin joggers and you're pearl clutching.

I doubt I'd notice.

axolotlfloof · 06/11/2022 19:08

Yuck.
I think the hotel staff should say something.
They were totally unreasonable.

Sparklingbrook · 06/11/2022 19:08

However, I wouldn't moan and bitch about it. I think just do you and mind your business. How does it actually affect you or your life?!

I don't think the OP bitched and moaned TBF, however if people only posted on MN about things that affected their life AIBU would have about two posts a day...

SuperCamp · 06/11/2022 19:08

CuriousCatfish · 06/11/2022 10:02

I hope none on here never go camping. There are people wandering about in PJs and dressing gowns at all hours of the day.

I do go camping.

People go to the loo and shower block in dressing gowns because they are going to the loo and shower from their beds.

If the site runs a cafe, the vast majority would get dressed before going into it for breakfast.

Camping is a scruffy informal unkempt vibe. Hotel dining rooms are usually not.

Sparklingbrook · 06/11/2022 19:10

I would hate to go camping for loads of reasons and now there's another one. Grin

threatmatrix · 06/11/2022 19:10

OohMrBingley · 06/11/2022 18:25

😁

That’s sweet.

No less grim, though - and does confirm it boils down to laziness.

Absolutely , my life is manic if I get the chance to sleep in a 5 star hotel then I’m doing it on my terms. I don’t sweat at night and only smell of the body cream is have applied the night before. What the hell to people think happens to you while you sleep 🧐😜
