AIBU to think when staying in hotel should not go down to breakfast in pyjamas

Last night stayed overnight in a City Centre hotel and a family all came down to breakfast wearing their pyjamas, looking like they had all jumped out of bed , it was 9am so still had time to shower and dress before breakfast finished , AIBU to think this is not appropriate

I don't think I'd even notice this unless they were especially revealing, but then I'd also notice if someone came to breakfast in revealing non-pyjama clothes.

A hotel buffet is in no way shape or form the equivalent of being downstairs in your home. Other residents are not your family or friends. You are going out in public.

I just shows a complete lack of self respect and respect for others and makes people look like trash that have just been dragged up without any standards. No one over the age of 5 should be going to breakfast in a hotel in pyjamas. Sorry, not sorry.

Even if I was staying with friends I would wash and dress before coming downstairs in the morning rather than lounge around in their house in my pyjamas. Perhaps I’m old fashioned.

NotAnotherPylon · 06/11/2022 17:04

As long as nobody is wearing a see through negligee or just boxers. And no bare feet as that would put me right off my Weetabix.

Yes, I'd notice. No, I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it myself. But I wouldn't care.

Sparklingbrook · 06/11/2022 17:17

So presumably it's absolutely fine when staying in a hotel to get ready for bed then go down for your evening meal? I mean why not?

Exactly!

Me too! I even used to get washed and dressed before coming down to breakfast when staying with my parents.

While it's not something I would ever do, I seriously cannot understand the absolute horror and despair from some posters. It's literally just some people wearing clothes that are not a social norm for attending a hotel breakfast in. How you can muster up a stronger reaction than a raised eyebrow I don't know.

Because it's a sign of a general decline in idleness, self respect and respect for others. It's so depressing. No one is saying you need to dress in a ball gown and tiara. Just put some day time clothes on. It takes a couple of minutes.

Sorry, that should say general idleness and decline of self respect......

Bogeyes · 06/11/2022 17:36

It suggests that they rolled out of bed and went for breakfast without washing.....dirty mingers

And that's somehow different from someone who rolled out of bed, threw some clothes on and went down without washing. As that will be fairly common in a city centre hotel. I've done it myself with a hangover!

OohMrBingley · 06/11/2022 17:40

Are you coming back to the thread you started @waltty?

Winifred2o · 06/11/2022 17:41

Once stayed in a country

Winifred2o · 06/11/2022 17:44

Once stayed in a country hotel and two young women came down to dinner with their hair in rollers!!

threatmatrix · 06/11/2022 17:47

Scruffy? My pyjamas probably cost more than most peoples outfits. I would definitely wear them to breakfast. I’m not missing a breakfast I’ve paid for because I like to sleep in. I’ve stayed in very upmarket hotels and quite a few do it.

Lily4444 · 06/11/2022 17:50

I agree with you. It’s not there home, I would be embarrassed to turn up in my pyjamas

cherish123 · 06/11/2022 17:52

Very weird, inappropriate and embarrassing. Do they not have any dignity? I've never ever seen this.

Bleachmycloths · 06/11/2022 18:04

Highly likely they are ‘inappropriate’ in many other areas of their lives. Sound like ignorant arseholes.

Everyflippingusernameistaken · 06/11/2022 18:07

Seriously?! That's disgusting. Lazy fuckers and bad manners. Just like some lazy fuckers who take their kids to school whilst dressed in pyjamas. No self-respect, or respect for anyone else.

This is the norm in some parts of the country. A friend of mine came up to stay here in Scotland (where it's not) and was surprised to get funny looks walking along the high street shopping with her rollers in 😆

LaughingCat · 06/11/2022 18:16

I think you’re being totally unreasonable. As long as they are happy and comfortable, I don’t see why it’s an issue. I can’t leave my room without doing my hair and putting on a full face of make up so I’m jealous of them tbh. 😂.

But hella lot of judgey sorts on this thread!

This made me howl. Right on. Respect 😁

Linnette49 · 06/11/2022 18:21

Up to the hotel rules and regulations but I wouldn’t do it.

It would make me feel sick, they obviously haven't washed.

How can you tell that the dressed people have?

That’s sweet.

No less grim, though - and does confirm it boils down to laziness.

YABU. None of your business is it?
