Last night stayed overnight in a City Centre hotel and a family all came down to breakfast wearing their pyjamas, looking like they had all jumped out of bed , it was 9am so still had time to shower and dress before breakfast finished , AIBU to think this is not appropriate

Depends on the hotel.

In general, I wouldn't do it. But some places like Champneys expect you to go for breakfast wearing a robe.

Poppyblush · 05/11/2022 21:29

Skanky as hell, not appropriate.

Moidershewrote · 05/11/2022 21:30

clutches pearls

How utterly shocking🙄

CuriousCatfish · 05/11/2022 21:44

I'd phone 101.

Not as utterly shocking as someone still posting 'clutches pearls'. It was a witty put down the first 100 times it was posted, many years ago.

I don’t wear pyjamas full stop, so I wouldn’t be wearing them in a hotel.

However, I definitely don’t dress for the benefit of other people, so I wouldn’t care what YOU or anyone else is wearing.

What is sadly shocking is how narrow minded and insufferable busybodies, some people clearly are. Thank goodness, I don’t know people like you in real life.

The feeling is entirely mutual! 😁

LoveAutumnColours · 05/11/2022 22:07

I personally think it is very disrespectful snd teaching their children very poor manners. Likely these patents do the d hook tin in their pjs and do the food shopping too

yuk! They should pop in some clothes, brush teeth, wash face and brush hair. Minimal things to go out in public. Really gross they can’t do this bare minimum.

If PJs for breakfast is too undressed for you, how do you feel about seeing people in bikinis on holiday?

I haven't gone to breakfast in my PJs but I would if more people did.

It's hardly a matter of being "undressed." It's appropriate vs. inappropriate decorum for the setting.

Bikini on beach/pool lido, fine. Bikini in church, at a restaurant, in a hotel lobby or walking down the high street, probably not fine.

MangyInseam · 05/11/2022 22:18

I don't think it's appropriate and also it's asking for trouble in terms of what some people might think counts as appropriate sleepwear too.

If people don't want to dress they can always order to their rooms.

WifeMotherWorker · 05/11/2022 22:21

Err slobs!!

Oh god, no bikinis at the breakfast table, please!

Stopsnowing · 05/11/2022 22:22

Thinking about this… if I was a guest in someone’s home I would only have breakfast in my pjs if I knew them well. Otherwise I would get dressed.

FourChimneys · 05/11/2022 16:59

I think it's scummy. Have they washed? Have they cleaned their teeth, brushed their hair?

They may or may not have, same as the people
In clothes! Have never done it but don't see the issue personally. Lots of people have breakfast in their pj's at home.

Mylittlesandwich · 05/11/2022 22:40

It's not something I would do. Primarily because I wear nighties to bed and there are some things nobody needs to see.

However I'd say what I'd wear isn't much up from PJs. If I'm in a hotel I'll get up at the last minute, was my face, brush my teeth and chuck a comfy dress on. I have one just now that's like a hoodie. So hardly dressed up.

mogsrus · 05/11/2022 22:44

No from me, I’ve seen it done at lunchtime, absolutely gross

KarmaStar · 05/11/2022 22:44

Yanbu.if think they hadn't washed either.
Saw it happen in a restaurant of a hotel years ago, older guy in pyjamas, younger lady in silky short night dress.
and her hand kept disappearing under the table.
surprised he didn't choke on his cereal really.😀

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 05/11/2022 22:47

I’ve never done this, and never will, but in a way I’d love to. At home I never get dressed before breakfast.

gogohmm · 05/11/2022 22:48

Inappropriate. But today (circa 4.30pm) there was a lady in pjs and a dressing gown with crocs on her feet - for clarification this was a large out of town branch in an major retail park with mall, cinema, restaurants, diy stores etc not walkable from any housing.

oioimatey · 05/11/2022 22:49

It's really not that difficult to get dressed before going for breakfast.

I can guarantee if I am at the breakfast buffet in a hotel, I have not washed, brushed teeth etc. I do all that after eating.

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 05/11/2022 22:50

That's so lazy and quite offensive to staff.

Winniewonka · 05/11/2022 22:51

Skanky. I don't want to stand next to someone whilst I choose my granola who can't be arsed to change out of the pyjamas they've sweated in for the past eight hours.
They'll have to get dressed at some point so why not before breakfast.

If it makes me a pearl clutcher, then I am quite happy to be one.

Herejustforthisone · 05/11/2022 22:52

Rank.

logana · 05/11/2022 22:57

I normally think a lot of people on Mumsnet are paranoid about cleanliness but I think this is totally unacceptable. I can't believe so many people are saying it's ok. Maybe I'm just old.
