AIBU to think when staying in hotel should not go down to breakfast in pyjamas

Last night stayed overnight in a City Centre hotel and a family all came down to breakfast wearing their pyjamas, looking like they had all jumped out of bed , it was 9am so still had time to shower and dress before breakfast finished , AIBU to think this is not appropriate

Skanky. I don't want to stand next to someone whilst I choose my granola who can't be arsed to change out of the pyjamas they've sweated in for the past eight hours.
They'll have to get dressed at some point so why not before breakfast.

If it makes me a pearl clutcher, then I am quite happy to be one.

But you're fine standing next to somebody in clothes that they may have been 'sweating in' (so 'wearing', I assume) for 10+ hours during the day?

Why is somebody and their attire more dirty/unacceptable to be around at breakfast time when they've been no further than a clean bed than they are after a long day working, travelling and so on?

cocktailclub · 05/11/2022 23:16

Do you think maybe they were housed temporarily by the council in the hotel? And therefore living the way they would if they were in their own home?

Winniewonka · 05/11/2022 23:21

@SocksAndTheCity - but we're talking about a hotel and I think chances are, anyone who has worked all day, is staying at said hotel and is having dinner there is at likely to have had a quick wash and changed their shirt or top.

I think that’s highly unlikely unless there’s some kind of special event on in the evening.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 05/11/2022 23:44

I really couldn't care less about this, so long as they were actually clothed in some way.

People on holiday abroad will have breakfast in their swimwear. Many people have breakfast before doing anything else.

Don't actually understand why it's considered scruffy or scummy. People stay in hotels sometimes because they're having a late night the night before. They might not want to get up and fully 'ready' because some lady in the restaurant might have conniptions.

No ridiculous and surprised the hotel allowed it.

Agree.

Astonished people do this!

EmmaDilemma5 · 05/11/2022 23:47

YANBU. I'd find that a bit skanky.

Cheesybreadnom · 06/11/2022 00:18

I wouldn't have noticed too busy stuffing my face with my breakfast. Honestly could not give a monkey's what other people are wearing. I always get dressed for breakfast as it's just a habit but if I did notice other in their pajamas, I'd probably be jealous they were in their pajamas, and I wasn't.

Spookypig · 06/11/2022 00:40

It wouldn’t bother me at all. What an odd thing to get upset about.

Sparklingbrook · 06/11/2022 00:43

i don't see how you can fail to notice 4 people in their nightwear. They have presumable exited their room, got in a lift, walked to their table etc. People are going to see them.

Yeah, you can notice them. They will have zero impact on you eating your own breakfast though.

Would make for some excellent conversation on my table 😄

InWalksBarberalla · 06/11/2022 00:58

I stayed at a hotel in Japan once where a lot of guests went to breakfast in their robes. I was tempted to do the same but couldn't bring myself to do it.
Wouldn't bother me or put me off my breakfast if I saw a family in their PJs at a hotel breakfast. I'd probably figure they'd overslept and didn't want to miss breakfast.

No! There was nothing fake about her either, she was really rather beautiful.

I'll take your word for that.

They've been sweating and farting in those all night
Speak for yourself

Sorry to break it to you but unless you’ve had your arsehole sewn up EVERYONE farts.

Yep all those people saying they've never farted in front of their partner, ever. I think they'll find they have. 😁

averythinline · 06/11/2022 01:15

Why is it an issue? Have spent years telling dc not to judge people on what they wear, look like...because judging people by their appearance is horrible ...what does it matter what they wear?..

Sparklingbrook · 06/11/2022 01:19

It’s not judging people on what they wear more where they are wearing it. They might be wearing the most expensive silk pyjamas etc. It’s just unusual to see people in their nightwear in a public place. It just is because most people don’t do it.

"Room service for who? The comfort of the other diners?"

Xenobitch I thought my comment responding to the one about Fibro was perfectly clear. If they are not able to wash and dress due to their health issue surely it's more comfortable for them to get room service?

I do not think it is up to you as to how someone with a health condition priorities things.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 06/11/2022 01:31

Please do show where I said it was up to me. I was pointing out what would seem the most sensible option for someone in those circumstances

It's really not.

Surely the fact that it's rarely seen and noteworthy when it does happen tells you something?

Putting on some clothes isn't getting fully ready. It's just putting some clothes on.

merrymelodies · 06/11/2022 06:43

A hotel dining room is a public place. Nightwear is definitely not appropriate.

Fizbosshoes · 06/11/2022 07:25

I'm surprised at the amount of people claiming they wouldn't notice. It is kind of unusual! I've never been anywhere for a meal in public , where people have been in pjs. I've been in Aldi when a girl had pjs and bare feet and I also thought that was quite unusual.

Even if you noticed and thought "that's unusual to go to breakfast in pjs" and thought nothing else of it.

Often I run in the evening, come back, shower and put pjs on so I eat my evening meal in my pyjamas. I am obviously clean and showered...but I wouldn't go out for a meal without putting on normal clothes.
