Just curios, why did you have children?

What made you decide to have children? What was the thought process there?

I just think it's interesting. I never intended to have children but very glad mine came along. I could never see a reason to have any, in fact I did not want to bring children into this world at all.

But if you did decide to, why was that exactly?

Started teaching. Realised kids were actually really interesting!

That is really beautiful. You're the best type of teacher then.

I've always had a desire to have kids. Literally as long as I could remember, even when I was very young, which is weird because I never really played with dolls or role play family toys, but I just always knew I wanted them. As a teenager it cemented and I desperately wanted kids as soon as I was able to, young by society's standards but it was right for me. There's no logical reason for it, I didn't concioslusly think "right this is a good reason to have children, let's do it". There's just always been a longing there.

My husband says he always longed for kids as well, right from being very young, so I think some people are just wired that way. An evolutionary thing maybe.

CoveredInCobwebs · 02/11/2022 14:01

I always enjoyed spending time with kids. I always wanted a traditional family set up. DH and I were chatting about future kids' names on our second or third date... he was very much on the same page as me. (We were in our late teens then so didn't start trying for another decade or so, but it was important for both of us even from that very early stage as something that would happen one day...)

MistyFrequencies · 02/11/2022 14:01

It waa just an overwhelming drive. So i guess its my biology. I dont have a specific reason why. I just HAD to do it.

AMorningstar · 02/11/2022 14:01

To clarify I didn't have kids when I was a teenager! Just realised reading it back it sounds like I did - I was 20 when we had DS1.

Bigfishlittlefishcardboardfox · 02/11/2022 14:02

It just never occurred to me in any way that I wouldn’t. Not having children wasn’t something I considered. I had fertility issues and would have adopted if I couldn’t have had my own.

Gemzee · 02/11/2022 14:02

My husband wanted kids, I didn't. I didn't want to lose my husband and thought it a sacrifice worth making.
We have 1 DS age 4 and no more (husband has had a vasectomy now). Suits us both, one is perfect for our family. (DS is lovely 😊 definite times of regret from newborn - age 2ish but he is getting better the older he gets 😍).

Albgo · 02/11/2022 14:04

During my 20s I never wanted children. When I turned 32 I suddenly felt this "need" to have a child. My brain didn't like it at first, but for me biology definitely kicked in. I didn't have my son until I was 38 though.

SpinningFloppa · 02/11/2022 14:04

Because I wanted to, I always knew I wanted to have children.

Igglepiggleslittletoe · 02/11/2022 14:08

MAP failure and not keen on abortion all truth being told.

DramaAlpaca · 02/11/2022 14:10

I just wanted them. I gave no more thought to it than that, tbh.

OoooohMatron · 02/11/2022 14:11

Honestly I was never very maternal but I knew I wanted a family. I got married at 30 and thought that I'll have kids and hope the maternal instinct kicks in! Luckily my punt paid off and it was the best decision I ever made.

samstownsunset · 02/11/2022 14:12

I had all 3 of mine on a whim just because I wanted them.

For me, a life without children would be a dull one indeed.

Hawkins001 · 02/11/2022 14:14

If I was to have them, it would most likely be for the otherhalf.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 02/11/2022 14:14

Because I knew exactly what my life would be like without them, and I knew that for me it would get boring eventually - I had DS when I was 32, so DH and I had been living the dual income, no kids life for a while.

DH loves kids and has always wanted to be a dad, so it just kind of made sense. Now I get to have similar adventures, but now with a tiny, feral sidekick in tow. It's so much fun seeing him discover things for the first time.

Hawkins001 · 02/11/2022 14:14

As I don't mind having them, but don't have the sudden urge for them.

Keepithidden · 02/11/2022 14:15

DW wanted them, I was ambivalent!

AutumnScream · 02/11/2022 14:18

Honestly? Because i have a great relationship with my mother and i feel content with myself and all the things i love and find interesting. I always knew i wanted to share that with small people who i could both teach things to and learn from as they grow.

Mosik · 02/11/2022 14:18

I was 38 and time was running out. Been with DP for 20 years and never actively yearned for them. It was the best decision I ever made.

MasterPretender · 02/11/2022 14:20

So OP, why did you have yours?

Istolethecookies · 02/11/2022 14:21

I never wanted children either. I suffered a lot with depression, but the moment I found out I was pregnant, I just felt incredibly excited for the future, I don't think I had ever felt that way before that moment.

Sparklybutold · 02/11/2022 14:21

I felt ready for the first. Second - biological clock ticking.

Doowop1919 · 02/11/2022 14:22

I was one of the few kids growing up without a "mum, dad, siblings" kind of family. I was raised by a single absent mum so mainly by my grandparents. Not mistreated, but not in that family environment I saw all around me. I dreamt of having my own family and kids, doing nice things together and being the mum I wish I'd had.
Wasn't an easy journey for us but we have our 2 year old and one on the way and I can honestly say despite the hard days, DS is amazing and I'm so happy he's here!

Testina · 02/11/2022 14:23

I had them as I though they’d make nice curios 😉

They do!
