£5000…for an hour?!

I read it today in an online paper…imagine that, if you did only two shows per week (worked two hours per week) that’s 480 grand a year?!

@ItHasTheJuice I think she’s nice also

@Stripeyrug What type of consultancy?

all kinds
I was just going to say that £5000 seemed reasonable
they have staff costs to cover (as do £1000 a day consultants)

Whatisthisweirdfluthing · 31/10/2022 23:04

@BagOfBollocks I agree it’s great for them and I don’t blame them for not turning it down etc, but if you were to put it in comparison with a nurses wage or teachers etc…it’s bonkers. Those professions work so hard, much longer hours and are giving so much back to the world…how can in be that people in tv who talk or footballers kicking a ball around get such a vast amount more.

I agree but I guess you could say that about most very high wages.

HotIsntIt · 31/10/2022 23:27

We hired a C list celeb for comparing at our annual work conference, £4k for 1/2 day, £6k for the day and that was 15 years ago.

The rate you’ve quoted doesn’t surprise me at all. Compare it to say a more high profile presenter like Tess Daly, whereby according to the BBC, was paid a total of £350,000-£399,999 in the 2016-2017 period by the BBC (quick Google that was too search). She roughly works 13 Saturdays for Strictly, plus say a day extra a week within the series, plus other BBC stuff, eg Children in Need, Comic Relief, specials etc, so let’s round up to 30 days year for the lower end of that bracket - that’s £11.6k a day minimum!

As pp said, they’ll pay tax (40%~45% depending on earnings), agent fees, PA, hair, makeup, private travel, accommodation etc all adds up and could be dropped instantly if a global pandemic comes along or they say or do something wrong like drink drive and crash cars and lose driving licenses unless your name is Ant Macpillock or Katie Prick

@Travelbunny Many people have to get up v early and do their own hair and make up. They can sit there with a coffee whilst someone else takes over! It’s not hard work…

Errr... but what people get paid doesn't have anything to do with 'hard work'.

We're all paid for the perceived value we add in a free market economy by those paying us.

Whatisthisweirdfluthing · 31/10/2022 23:14

@RishisProudMum (name 😂) Doesn’t make it right though, does it?

If the the offer is made and accept, it must be 'right'

Heyahun · 01/11/2022 00:05

@Whatisthisweirdfluthing i mean you say it’s not even work - about Stacy getting a lot of money for Instagram posts - but she put a lot of work in to build up the 5 million followers

she gets paid so much as it reaches so many people 🤦‍♀️

girlwhowearsglasses · 01/11/2022 00:10

Do you know how much the execs get paid? The profits of the production company? Who should be getting the money if the company that makes the programme makes a profit? With a programme this long running it’s clearly making money for someone big time. I for one would very much like to think that the women fronting the show get at least a very good living out of fronting something that makes a lot of other people many £££. And it does. Talent should be paid well.

@alwaysmovingforwards No 😅it’s not right when compared to the brave and important jobs that people devote themselves to, that pay a pittance, you surely see that

You seem to be lacking a basic understanding of market forces, OP. What do you do for a living?

Whatisthisweirdfluthing · 01/11/2022 08:37

@RishisProudMum No, I understand 👍
I’m a teacher.

No idea but I just googled it and it says Stacey Solomon earns £3000 per episode and £12,000 for Instagram posts. Who on earth is paying her that much, and why? She's as thick as mince.

She's clearly not that thick considering she's managing to easily make in a week what most of us make in a year.

girlmom21 · 01/11/2022 08:39

WhitethroughtheFright · 31/10/2022 22:39

You should read the price list for celebs to come and do a couple of hours at your conference/Christmas party/annual meeting. Starts at £15,000 for a niche speaker (semi well known sports person) to £50,000 + for a more professional presenter. That’s a few hours work on one night. Nuts.

Ant and Dec are £200,000 for an hour.

Ripping down a handful of rich celebs doesn't add much to the pot. If you don't want them to be rich then don't watch them. Also don't watch movies, Strictly or anything else with famous people in it.

I don't think she is thick!

I think that deep down she's actually quite savvy!

FamilyTreeBuilder · 01/11/2022 08:50

Whatisthisweirdfluthing · 31/10/2022 22:31

@UnstableCarHouse Doesnt JSP turn up late or something. Still, it can’t be that hard, quite interesting discussing current events and having a laugh, there are worse jobs

Janet Street Porter is a seasoned journo though, she's been at it for decades and i'm sure she is well-informed and well-read. She probably can just turn up, 20 minutes in hair and make up, onto a set and talk knowledgeably about a whole host of topics because she has that experience and background knowledge. Like Kaye Adams (is she still on it) she has a 30 year career in news broadcasting behind her.

Other panellists are not there for their intellect, they are chosen because they will say something controversial, or because like Stacey Solomon they are likeable and popular with their target demographic.

I have worked with her and she isn’t thick at all, she’s very shrewd and knows what works for her and her fans.

FamilyTreeBuilder · 01/11/2022 08:52

I don't "do" instagram and the rest of it and thought the same about Stacey Solomon - nice girl but a bit dim with no real talent. But the decluttering/organising show she did for the BBC was really good and she came across so well.

BlueBar · 01/11/2022 08:52

determinedtomakethiswork · 31/10/2022 22:32

Stacey has got 5.4 million followers on Instagram, that's why they pay her so much.

She's also not in the slightest bit thick. She's a working class's woman without a conventional education, which makes people assume stupid. When are we going to get past that?

Sparklingbrook · 01/11/2022 08:57

SS isn’t ‘thick as mince’ she knows exactly what she’s doing. People might not like it but she’s good at what she does. 🤷‍♀️

BlueBar · 01/11/2022 09:02

This attitude infuriates me, it's why we're stuck with a government full of Etonians. Even the working classes think a working class accent and an ordinary education makes you thick, especially if you're a woman.

She's clearly very good at what she does and a shrewd woman in business.

Ot as Stacey herself said "I have a national diploma equivalent to 3 As at A-level & could have gone to university, if I could afford it. I’m an intelligent capable human. Your opinion demonstrates a lack of education & ability to see past stereotypical traits in a human that society deems unintelligent."

Sceptre86 · 01/11/2022 09:06

If you watch the show you would know that none of them are on it everyday. The panel always gets changed up so nopne I m
