Does Sunak hate women?? His new Minister for Women Appointment is 100% anti-abortion.

Just learned that Sunak has appointed Maria Caulfield as his Minister for Women! This is an MP who voted against legalizing abortion in Northern Ireland and wants the time-limit for abortion in the UK reduced. She has stood up in Parliament and lied, outright lied with a nonsense claim that fetuses born at 18 weeks have lived long and healthy lives - 100% untrue. She is against buffer zones outside clinics and she's a past officer of a pro-life, anti-abortion organisation.

WTF!! This is who Sunak thinks will look out for women's interests? 90% of the UK public support legal abortion, 1 in 3 women will need an abortion at some point.

There's a lot we don't actually know about Sunak and what sort of man he is but we're learning quickly...

So much hate and vitriol from the pro-abortion people. It just makes me even more certain in my views.

You haven't commented on whether you think it's right to force a woman who has been raped to talk about her trauma, when she might want to keep that to herself. You've suggested abortion is acceptable in cases of rape, but how do you prove that?

And the statistics on rape will never be accurate, because so many women will never tell. As is their right. When someone violates them in that way, they have to have the power to decide whether they tell anyone, including whether they let a doctor put them through an intimate examination to gather evidence.

BigWillyStyleandPrincessKate · 30/10/2022 12:24

I honestly have more respect for the few anti choicers that I have met that don't have clauses in their beliefs for which fetuses are ok to abort.

At least for them it's about the fetus and not punishing the mother.

I think I've woken up in some alternative 1960s American Bible Belt.
I cannot believe that @BigWillyStyleandPrincessKate actually said this ..

What is it about babies that are a product of rape that makes their lives less important Heidi? I'm curious.*

Having been raped and it having an impact on my life for 40 years I can honestly say that your ignorance is astounding.

ChaToilLeam · 30/10/2022 12:26

YellowTreeHouse · 30/10/2022 12:11

If you don’t want to have a baby then you should be taking proper precautions or abstaining from sex. It’s not okay to be so careless with life.

Abortion should only be legal in cases of rape or medical need.

Life is so precious, it should be used to punish all those nasty women who have sex. 🙄

I voted YABU because wanting time limits on abortion or being opposed to abortion doesn’t mean that you hate women. It simply means that you believe that time limits on abortions is moral and humane and/or disagree with abortion for whatever reason.

Forcing women into a life they do not want absolutely means you hate women.

You've missed my point spectacularly.

She also voted against buffer zones outside clinics - she wants extremists to have the right to scream vile abuse, up close and personal at distressed women going into these clinics, she voted agasint legalising abortion in Northern Ireland in it's entirety. I stand by my comment that such a person and the person who appoints her should be questioned on whether they hate women.

So much hate and vitriol from the pro-abortion people. It just makes me even more certain in my views.

The anguish, fear and anger expressed by women on this forum makes you even more enthusiastic about your campaign in favour of more women dying and increasing child poverty?

Removing the right to terminate a pregnancy leads to women’s deaths, especially deaths of poorer women who can’t travel to a country where it’s legal.

Restricting abortion also increases poverty, which disproportionately affects women.

It does increase money making opportunities for international human infant traffickers though, I’ll give you that.

TooBigForMyBoots · 30/10/2022 12:28

Maria Caulfield voted to stop women in NI getting access to abortion. She is a forced birther.

feelthebeatfromthetangerine · 30/10/2022 12:29

3peassuit · 30/10/2022 12:18

The right to abortion is a hill I would choose to die on. I have always believed “as early as possible, as late as necessary” is the best position for women. Caulfield’s appointment is a backwards step.

100%. Mainly because as early as possible is better for the woman.

As late as necessary, because I trust the woman to have a valid reason for why it couldn't be earlier.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 30/10/2022 12:30

Yup, them Tories know what a woman is alright!

BigWillyStyleandPrincessKate · 30/10/2022 12:30

The fucking ironic thing is that Tory austerity is going to be the cause of a lot of unwanted abortions

itsgettingweird · 30/10/2022 12:30

I liked starmers response to the question on woman's rights when Justine interviewed him.

I'm far more confident (becoming more so daily) I'll have more rights under Labour than I currently do under Tory.

And yes - idiotic to employ someone against woman's rights in a post for woman rights.

MinnieMountain · 30/10/2022 12:37

Why does people disagreeing with you make you even more certain in your views @YellowTreeHouse ? The only reason I can think of is that you’re a misogynist who wants to punish women in general.

Whataretheodds · 30/10/2022 12:43

Pixiedust1234 · 30/10/2022 11:44

Sometimes it good to have different voices in a political party. It stops yesmen and echo chambers and therefore make the party as a whole stronger.

I would rather have discussion and debate than not.

Sure. We should have more debates about slavery and stoning too, keep it real.

HailOWeen · 30/10/2022 12:55

I don't get people who believe that having an abortion equates to murdering a child but agree that it's ok in certain circumstances or as a one off. So, it's to murder children if they were conceived during a rape or if it's your first time murdering one?

ParsleySageRosemary · 30/10/2022 13:01

Isn’t one of these Tories on record as saying we should be just like India? We all know how women are treated in India.

Women need to defend themselves from men at the moment.

TooBigForMyBoots · 30/10/2022 13:07

The Tories hate women. This is just the latest in a series of anti-woman decisions they've made.

And there's more to come.

Who benefits from the presence of an unwanted child?

MintyFreshOne · 30/10/2022 13:17

I've had two miscarriages and they weren't "babies" they were a clump of cells. They were very upsetting experiences but they didn't cause my brain to suddenly dumb down and forget biology and science to pretend that a clump of cells was somehow a baby

Please don’t say things like this about miscarriages. They are very much our babies and really is a separate issue from abortion. They are not just a clump of cells but our lost children.

You can make your points without invoking this very painful experience

I missed thus- what was his response please?
The tory party are currently a bunch of cowboys lurching around from one extreme view and action to the next with seemingly nobody in charge. How you could trust them to behave like rational adults at the moment is beyond me. I've never been a tory voter but at least before the last decade they were halfway adult.

thebirdysong · 30/10/2022 13:28

Sweet Jesus he must be deluded

PopcornChewingGum · 30/10/2022 13:52

Time to state the obvious: you can never stop abortion. You can only stop safe, accessible abortion. Again and again, those with money and power access abortions for themselves, their partners or daughters if needed. Abortion bans just condemn poor girls and women to backstreet abortions.

This, 100%. Abortions have existed since human pregnancy. No-one who cares about women's welfare wants to go back to having to rely on your friendly neighbourhood abortionist and trust that they'll survive the experience.

He hates women on the bases that he employed a woman? He married a woman?
