Does Sunak hate women?? His new Minister for Women Appointment is 100% anti-abortion.

Just learned that Sunak has appointed Maria Caulfield as his Minister for Women! This is an MP who voted against legalizing abortion in Northern Ireland and wants the time-limit for abortion in the UK reduced. She has stood up in Parliament and lied, outright lied with a nonsense claim that fetuses born at 18 weeks have lived long and healthy lives - 100% untrue. She is against buffer zones outside clinics and she's a past officer of a pro-life, anti-abortion organisation.

WTF!! This is who Sunak thinks will look out for women's interests? 90% of the UK public support legal abortion, 1 in 3 women will need an abortion at some point.

There's a lot we don't actually know about Sunak and what sort of man he is but we're learning quickly...

If you don’t want to have a baby then you should be taking proper precautions or abstaining from sex. It’s not okay to be so careless with life.

Abortion should only be legal in cases of rape or medical need.

You surely must be aware that contraception can fail? It's drilled into you during sex Ed in school and on every single information leaflet provided with whatever choice of contraception. Even vasectomies aren't 100%

Why rape?

If someone said their 5 year old child was a product of rape and that it living in the world upset them, reminded them of their sexual assault. I would not support them ending that child's life. Because that would be without a doubt, murder.

So you must not actually think abortion is murder. Or that a fetus is the same as a child. That's the logical conclusion.

There is no situation you'd accept murder of an innocent child, if you believed it was murder.

This is about punishment for women, for having sex. At least be honest about that.

Accidental pregnancies happen, pregnancy on contraception happens. A percentage of those getting abortions are married couples who have children. We could never put a vulnerable pregnant woman through having to prove that she was raped, or even worse, a child. It's literally caring about a mass of cells above women and girls.

Funny how they never tell men to keep it in their pants.

The problem with this statement is you are projecting emotion onto how others should feel, when you are not going living their emotional state. It’s not really fair to judge people based in what you believe they should feel.

My sex ed classes are lost in the mists of history but even in the 60s we were taught that contraception isn't 100%. Did you skip that bit when you were at school?

If we do ban abortion though, those that underfunded and badly ran the maternity, children's mental health, children's healthcare, social services etc services, should be jailed.

3peassuit · 30/10/2022 12:18

The right to abortion is a hill I would choose to die on. I have always believed “as early as possible, as late as necessary” is the best position for women. Caulfield’s appointment is a backwards step.

TheyreOnlyNoodlesMichael · 30/10/2022 12:19

No but it’s interesting how people like you always bring up rape (which is a tiny minority of cases) to make a general case for abortion

There's no case to make. If you don't want to have an abortion then don't. Very simple. Here comes the difficult bit - keep your opinions about what other women do with their bodies to yourself. The contents of my uterus are my business, not yours.

YellowTreeHouse · 30/10/2022 12:19

So much hate and vitriol from the pro-abortion people. It just makes me even more certain in my views.

BigWillyStyleandPrincessKate · 30/10/2022 12:19

What is it about babies that are a product of rape that makes their lives less important Heidi? I'm curious.

Abortion should only be legal in cases of rape or medical need.

So it’s not abortion that you’re opposed to.

You’re opposed to women who’ve had consensual sex and whose contraception has failed having a choice as to whether to continue the pregnancy.

You believe that foetuses whose fathers are not rapists have a right to force a woman to continue to be pregnant and give birth.

But you believe that foetuses whose fathers are rapists do not have a right to force a woman to continue to be pregnant and give birth.

If it’s about the right to life and not about punishing women (but not men) for being in a sexual relationship, then why are you discriminating against the foetuses of rapists?

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 30/10/2022 12:20

The upcoming austerity hes proposing will disproportionately impact women too.

Tell you one thing. I'd really like the death sentence for people who use 'hate' (never any other word, don't you have a very wide vocabulary?) when what they mean is 'doesn't share my opinions and says so.'

Wtaf...I despair

BigWillyStyleandPrincessKate · 30/10/2022 12:21

I'll support forced birth when we start supporting forced vasectomies on men. They can get their sperm banked for later if they want children.

I've had two miscarriages and they weren't "babies" they were a clump of cells. They were very upsetting experiences but they didn't cause my brain to suddenly dumb down and forget biology and science to pretend that a clump of cells was somehow a baby.

They represented the sad end to the possiblility of a much wanted future child but they weren't a child. You're the one who is being disengenuous and highly offensive in trying to insinuate that miscarriages, a natural biological process is always equal to the deaths of babies.

have you seen the statistics on rape?

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 30/10/2022 12:22

I'm pretty certain that deep down there's a fundamental belief with these types that sex is for procreation, and women aren't supposed to enjoy it.

It's not pro abortion love it's pro choice. Pro "women having autonomy over their own body". Not the mass of cells that are occupying her womb.

Fortunately for us we don't live in the 1950s so you can keep moaning about it but women will continue to get abortions every damn day (whether it's legal or not) so feel free to die on THAT hill 😘

I voted YABU because wanting time limits on abortion or being opposed to abortion doesn’t mean that you hate women. It simply means that you believe that time limits on abortions is moral and humane and/or disagree with abortion for whatever reason.

I have lost 4 babies, 3 LTM's and 1 still-birth. I still support a woman's right to choose. How dare you presume to speak for all of us.
