My husband's pretty awesome

I'm new to Mumsnet... so 'hello'!

I'm really sad to see posts from women who have discovered their husband is cheating, or their husband moans when they switch the heating on. I'm pretty sad that there are so many dickhead husbands and partners out there.

I feel kinda like I'm gonna get flack for saying this, but my husband is pretty awesome. He's currently out fishing with our son, he's a fab dad, I still fancy the pants off him - and he pulls his weight around the home.

Is he a freak of nature? I'm trying not to boast here, but he is pretty frickin' awesome - even after 20 years together.

I guess I'm trying to say that there are some great guys out there... is yours one of them?

AIBU for saying this???

Mine isn't perfect and has some very annoying habits but he is still pretty damn awesome! He's an amazing dad, will do things around the house and works his arse off for us. I still fancy the pants off him and wonder every day why he does me 😬

I think he fancies the pants off you because you sound pretty frickin' awesome! Xx

I am paying an insane amount to have surgery on a pet rat, I cannot let her just die, she wants to live so much. DH says, “It is up to me”
He understands, I adore him.

I hear ya... we just spent £3k on our dog, who has been diagnosed with dementia... a pet loving hubster is deffo a keeper x

You are only BU for spelling flak wrong.

My husband's great too. I guess those of us with good ones don't bother posting about them, but my heart goes out to some of the women posting about their crap ones.

Flak... in fairness, I've been drinking wine!!! Little bit embarrassing as I am a copywriter by trade!!! ;)

Mine isn’t perfect,in fact I could cheerfully bury him some days but he’s perfect for me
hes a good man-and he loves me
it took a long time for us to meet but as soon as we did,we where tight from day one
hes my rock and I wouldn’t be without him

He's your lobster 🦞!! Xx

My husband is absolutely fantastic and a brilliant dad. He can be a bit of a twat sometimes but so can IGrin

Me too... I blame the menopause!!! ;)

TheChosenTwo · 29/10/2022 19:01

Yeah mine’s okay.
We split stuff fairly, he loves me and the kids, he cooks, has built the house we live in, is practical, was hands on with the kids when they were babies and is active in their lives now they’re older.
We have the odd cross words, he can sometimes be a twat, so can I.
we make it work.
nothing is perfect. No man is perfect. No woman is either. It’s about learning to live with each other’s flaws and being okay with them.

MolliciousIntent · 29/10/2022 19:09

I met mine at 20 and honest to God when i think about the fact that statistically speaking I'll spend 60odd years with him, I feel so lucky I could weep.

He cut his mother out the second she said one mean thing about you? So you mean immediately after one instance? His own mother?

That has red flags all over it and not really indicative of a wonderful man

Yup, she said an awful thing about me, to my face

Refused to apologise, refused to take it back so that was that. NC.

The opposite of the weak men on here who make their wives put up with vile MiLs because they refuse to stand up for them.

CovertImage · 29/10/2022 19:17

but you’ll be shot down by the bitter brigade soon

So many on here say ‘well if not all men were shit why don’t we see posts saying how fab they are’ but on the other hand will dismiss posts like this as being insensitive or goady

Given the often horrific things we read about on here, THIS post is as insensitive as fuck

GreenLeavesRustling · 29/10/2022 19:21

I hear you! I am also married to a superstar. Kind, funny, fantastic dad, reliable, 21 years in and I still adore him.

CheezePleeze · 29/10/2022 19:33

22 years on and I definitely have a keeper here too!

I'm almost glad I was married to a wanker the first time round, because it taught me to raise my expectations massively.

It makes me wince when I read about a nasty abusive man but the OP can't leave because he's 'an amazing dad'. Errr like fuck he is if that's how he treats his DC's mother.

Or he's 'amazing' because he cooked dinner and played with his kid.

Nah

But thanks for proving my point

Penguinsmum · 29/10/2022 19:47

Same.my dh isn't perfect but he's perfect for me.

Rinatinabina · 29/10/2022 20:09

Mines great, does all the night wake ups because I’m not great with not enough sleep. Does a lot more than that too, but it’s the thing I am most greatful for right now. Good man. I feel very lucky.

ChocolateHelps · 29/10/2022 20:25

YADNBU!

Mine is ABSOLUTELY brilliant! I'm forever thinking how lucky I am to have met him 25 yrs ago (married 20yrs) and how well we have grown together.

He works his arse off at work and at home. Always brings me a cup of tea in bed. Empties the dishwasher every morning. Totally supportive in my career. Totally supportive of me breastfeeding for a v long time, in fact he talks about attachment parenting to his work mates. Can fix literally anything. Still looks great and we still fancy each other (much to the disgust of the DC's when we have a quick kiss in the kitchen!)

I really don't think I would have known how great he was when we were both 25 yrs old I do think there is some luck involved. Lots of our friends are divorced and it sometimes seems like really bad luck and not always down to one person being an arsehole

My husband would help me fling it in the bin 😅 I hope your pet recovers well.

fruktsoda · 29/10/2022 20:27

Nobody's perfect (myself included), but I'm lucky to have a a good husband. I think I've been luckier than most, in that regard.

(I've also have had the experience of getting a nasty response when I shared something nice about DH, on a different thread. Some people do like to tear everyone else down to their own level.)
