To think not everything is ‘misogyny’

… and that the word is massively overused on here?

I’m getting quite tired of it if I’m honest, it feels like every other conversation the ‘misogyny’ card is whipped out and anyone who disagrees has ‘internalised misogyny’ (um no I just have a different opinion).

It’s becoming the ‘BeKind’ of feminism. Overused to the point it’s getting meaningless and irritating, and just used to ‘win’ any kind of nuanced topic without any proper discussion.

AIBU? 🤷🏼‍♀️

But do you understand that women as a group are physically weaker? On a global scale we do need protecting from violent men. Are you really not aware of this??

I think women as a whole should be taking actions like learning self defence to combat this. I don't think we should just accept it lying down that we are "weak". My daughter/s will be taught how to defend themselves and I think it's an important skill to learn.

Technically, but there's a lot of riding the bell curve going on with that statement.

OldPosterNewUsername · 02/11/2022 18:07

What the fuck does it matter to you how many women have abortions?

It is literally NOTHING TO FUCKING DO WITH YOU.

I expect you complain just as much about "single mothers with 12 children".

AMorningstar · 02/11/2022 17:56

Not going to help you defend yourself, at least not poison.

If women didn't perpetuate this reputation of us being weak perhaps we wouldn't be seen as easy targets

Of course a weapon would help defend yourself. I mean, it could easily backfire or lead to further violence. Again: men are more likely to be attacked by a stranger and in public. But the aggressor is still more likely to be another man. Women carrying weapons doesn’t change that.

Once again, that wouldn't be enough. We would also need to work on women's(as a class) willingness to be violent and cause harm as casually and easily as men (as a class ) do. Is that a world you really want to live in? Do you really think it would solve things? That it would make men hate us less?

For what you're saying to work the way you think it would , it wouldn't be enough for men to not see us as weak/victims. They would actually have to see us as a threat. Sadly, I strongly believe that it just means they'd double down and find other ways to hurt us.

Look how well arming themselves turned out for Americans huh?

The idea that women are to blame for their own assaults and rapes because they dont know self defence is pretty sickening.

We do however need to stop raising girls and women to be people (men) pleasers who put up with being treated like shit.

We need to stop teaching them that putting themselves in vulnerable positions is the goal.

Right. So you admit women as a group are less able to defend themselves. Don’t try to fudge it with your ‘riding the bell curve’ bullshit - you’re fooling no-one 😂

Never said women were to blame. I said we should as a group do something about it.

Agree to no people pleasing.

I agree with you op.
Another ridiculous notion is that men hate women, that one always makes me laugh.
Particularly when it's said by women who are in a relationship with them. If you really think that men hate women, then what are you doing with one? Which of course will be answered with ' except my man of course ' 😂

👍

They could be pretty equal on that footing if they learned how to do it. And the bell curve is important, because folks like you look at outliers instead of realising most men and women fall within the same area

OR we could target the actual problem: male violence. Then we don’t have to worry about women carrying weapons.

If you develop muscle strength and a knowledge of where to hit you won't necessarily need weapons.

Humans, men or women, will always be violent. You can't eradicate that. You CAN protect yourself.

No you can’t 🤣🤣🤣 Are you insane? All these women being murdered because they didn’t have the muscle strength, if only they’d thought of it!

I'm not saying they'd win every fight, Jesus. I'm saying they'd have a chance and attackers would be more likely to think twice if they knew she was likely to knock their lights out.

But you’re wrong though. Women could easily make up for their lack of physical strength by using weapons - but they don’t. Do you honestly think the odds would be better stacked if women just worked out a bit more?

ldontWanna · 02/11/2022 18:37

@AMorningstar height and weight don't necessarily correlate to strength. When you look at strength, like grip force for example, men come much higher than women.

Grip can be improved with exercises like deadlifts. So can bone density and muscle mass. A lot of it isn't static.

Lookingforbargains · 02/11/2022 18:39

@AMorningstar
It’s almost impressive, the lengths you’ll go to to argue against biology.

Meanwhile, in the real world, everyone knows that men are, on average, bigger, stronger and than women faster.

You’ll have to come up with something else.

Lookingforbargains · 02/11/2022 18:40

*and faster

That's the same tripe as I'm safe because .. I don't go out after dark, I cover myself up, I don't run in parks, I have a "don't fuck with me face", I never drink more than one glass of wine when out, I'm not giggly, I'm a professional, I don't do x,y or z and all such bullshit.

Ah really? I think we’re raising boys to be violent, and that’s where I’d make changes. Rather than ‘if you had better muscle mass and a harder attitude you probably wouldn’t be murdered so much’.
