To think not everything is ‘misogyny’

Cuppasoupmonster · 29/10/2022 16:11

… and that the word is massively overused on here?

I’m getting quite tired of it if I’m honest, it feels like every other conversation the ‘misogyny’ card is whipped out and anyone who disagrees has ‘internalised misogyny’ (um no I just have a different opinion).

It’s becoming the ‘BeKind’ of feminism. Overused to the point it’s getting meaningless and irritating, and just used to ‘win’ any kind of nuanced topic without any proper discussion.

AIBU? 🤷🏼‍♀️

One thing that does get wheeled out a lot on here is the equivalent of mysogyny toward anything with a penis but that’s different because it’s ok apparently.

It’s because misandry doesn’t exist in any real sense.

I'm totally with you OP. The way misogyny is used nowadays is women not taking responsibility for their actions or choices and needed someone to blame so the fingers is pointed at men.

💯% correct.

I hate this notion, that women are incapable of making sensible decisions... and they blame men.

I see this with women having affairs with married men... the women want to claim being victims, like they were forced into it... once again putting ALL the blame on the man and if you disagree with them....it's misogyny.

When you fu%k up as a woman, just own it and stop blaming men, without accepting responsibility for your part in it.

Oh yes... that little nugget.

I usually call it a double standard but misandary fits the bill.

You could post the exact same thing and get completely different responses if you're a man. Usually a man will get a lot of hate and blame dished out.

I remember a thread ages ago with a woman who was having an affair. So much sympathy and kindness..comments like You poor thing He must have pushed you to it It can't be a happy marriage,

If a man says his wife is having an affair... you get Do you help around the house ...like that's a reason to have an affair if he doesn't.

So a man has an affair and it's HIS fault

Woman has an affair it's still HIS fault.

Misandry doesn’t exist in any real way though.

Misandry is Rampant on MN. It's sickening how this place is it about it, proudly male-hating. Highly obsessive & blinkered. Too bad some of us have sons, eh?

I’m not ignoring it, I’ll do a proper reply later, it was a lot of info and I’m dipping in and out of making dinner.

Behavioural tendencies - men tend to be more aggressive, logical in their thinking and less emotive. Women tend to be more emotive in their thinking, less aggressive and more nurturing. That sort of thing.

Oh ffs

🤣

Let me guess. You're an egalitarian. Not a feminist?

Topgub · 30/10/2022 21:59

OohMrBingley · 30/10/2022 18:56

Because it would mean that all the emotional things they do in anger - hit, abuse, kill, etc - are thought out, logical and pre-meditated.

Do you think those acts are driven by logic? Or is it possible that they’re driven by anger (an emotion)? I think it’s the latter.

Men are much, much more emotional than women (with far more dire consequences), and if those acts are driven by cold logic, that’s very, very chilling.

Exactly.

Society has just sold us the lie that anger isn't an emotion.

Oh.

Unless its women who are angry of course.

bringincrazyback · 30/10/2022 22:45

Yes I do. It has zero connotations in the real world. It doesn’t translate into any real outcome for men, it only exists because of misogyny. And you must agree with that because the best you can come up with is male victims of female might feel that way.

1.	It’s not ‘the best I can come up with’, it’s my answer to your question.
2.	‘It has zero connotations in the real world. It doesn’t translate into any real outcome for men, it only exists because of misogyny’ is an opinion, not a fact.
3.	No, I don’t agree with you.

You seem unclear about how debate is supposed to work @pumperthepumper. Repeatedly parroting ‘misandry doesn’t exist’ and swearing at people for disagreeing with you does not add anything to your argument. It’s still just your opinion. And I suspect the reason you’re finding it ‘like pulling teeth’ is that I’m not the only one who disagrees with you.

You’re not disagreeing with me though, because you’re still unable to say how it exists in any real context.

Cuppasoupmonster · 30/10/2022 22:56

I find it depressing that posters on here seem to want to view women as passive bystanders even in the things they have control over, with zero agency and just open to the whims of any male who happens to notice them. Like life and events just ‘happen to us’ and when they do we can blame the men. If you point out we do have (some) agency and control, it’s all ‘oh stop victim blaming’ etc etc

Well done OP, for standing up to the bullies on here. The irony of them on a misognogy or not misogyny thread. Blinking priceless 😅

People disagreeing - with a subject the OP raised to get people to agree with her on share their thoughts on - is not bullying.

OohMrBingley · 30/10/2022 23:10

Any thoughts on your assertion that men are ‘less emotional’ and ‘more logical’, @Cuppasoupmonster ?

You ignored what was said to you in response to this.

Knight900 · 30/10/2022 23:14

RambamThankyouMam - comments like yours just illustrate your total ignorance and ridiculous statements such as “how much men hate us”

really what planet are you on ??

MadelineUsher · 30/10/2022 23:17

Behavioural tendencies - men tend to be more aggressive, logical in their thinking and less emotive. Women tend to be more emotive in their thinking, less aggressive and more nurturing. That sort of thing.

So now, in your nuanced debate, we're basically parroting Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus?!

The belief that women are "more emotive in their thinking" than the "logical" thinking men is misogynistic.

Not the case. I've already stated that I consider violence towards, and abuse of, men by women to have its roots at least partially in misandry. Is this type of behaviour. It's an extraordinary leap to suggest that just because you don't accept my answers I'm not disagreeing with you.

As far as I am concerned misandry exists and has consequences for men. Just like misogyny exists and has consequences for woman.

Your dismissal of this just paints you as a misandrist yourself, in my view.

That doesn’t answer the question though - that’s not a real-life consequence of misandry, it’s only something you believe to be true. Misandry is only ever used as an insult to women complaining about misogyny, and that’s it.

Lookingforbargains · 31/10/2022 08:19

Wow! Just read the whole thread and it’s breath-taking. From the perspective of a non-participant, it goes like this:

OP: makes sweeping statement essentially rubbishing the idea of misogyny, using contraception (of all things!!) as an example.

Various intelligent posters: point out that, whilst everything isn’t misogyny, misogyny is deeply ingrained in society and is, in fact, shown in attitudes to contraception and abortion.

One voice then witters on about sexism being really different from misogyny and how stupid women are for using the wrong term (as if they’re not deeply entwined).

OP darts around dragging up various spurious examples which are each neatly dealt with but OP puts fingers in ears.

Then the lightweights enter, jabbering about the virtually non-existent issue of ‘misandry’ and how feminists think women have no agency or something. Straw men everywhere!

It’s mind-blowing!

bringincrazyback · 31/10/2022 08:27

Yawn. Again, more subjective opinion parading as hard fact.
