She is probably the best selling living author writing in English

She has given a great deal of money to charity

She has conquered the disadvantages of being an unemployed single mother by her own efforts

She is a great role model for women and girls

OP posts:
beastlyslumber · 28/10/2022 14:22

Yes, definitely! She needs to be titled and in the HoL (as long as she still has time to write!)

Brefugee · 28/10/2022 14:23

do you know how many thousands of messages there are on this site? that's two.

Fair enough. It's two more than the examples of transphobia and/or plagiarism. Progress of sorts.

OoooSweetChildOMine · 28/10/2022 14:23

👏👏👏

🙄the adulation of this woman on here is bizarre. But apparently mumsnet, like JKR, has become a grotesque single issue echo chamber.

🙄 yourself!

Give I surveyed three posts that's a pretty high Strike rate Wink
Geddit? Wink

Brefugee · 28/10/2022 14:27

haha - her name is in the title, you cauliflower, so you homed in on it. So ... that's 2 messages (one of which is a reply to something mentioning her name in the title).
Not a high hit rate.

I'm not a huge fan of JKR but i do respect someone who escapes a violent marriage, makes money, and then sets up VAWG charities etc. And if we have to have the HoL (which i'd rather we didn't) i would want someone like that in there rather tha Ian fucking Botham or countless others of them.

JKR, Doreen Lawrence, Floella Benjamin, Tanni Grey Thompson and women of their ilk? Yes please much much much more of that. (although I'd rather abolish it)

JenniferBarkley · 28/10/2022 14:30

I thought the use of two emojis and a pun would be enough to signify a lighthearted joke, but alas...

JenniferBarkley · 28/10/2022 14:32

And yes, JKR's professional success, tax status and charitable giving are all very worthy and I used to admire her. However the way she's rabbidly attached herself to a single issue is unfortunate and these days she comes across as unhinged. She's done an excellent job of tarnishing her own legacy - she may well be happy with that but I think it's a bit embarrassing in truth.

Thelnebriati · 28/10/2022 14:36

Thats an interesting bit of propaganda writing. It needs editing before you try to publish, imo.
Why is it only women that aren't allowed to have their own movement, to further their own rights?

lifeturnsonadime · 28/10/2022 14:37

Wait, what, it's embarrassing and unhinged for a woman to stand up for women's rights and will tarnish her legacy?

PauliString · 28/10/2022 14:38

I think if I'd mildly, politely and considerately tried to put across a middle-of-the-road viewpoint, and had death threats for it, I'd start coming across as a bit unhinged too.

I don't think Rowling is the one who sounds most unhinged in this situation.

Kendodd · 28/10/2022 14:41

Agreed
She just needs to donate large amounts of money to the Tories, then she's in. They might even stick her in the cabinet if she agrees with them all enough.

I dont think she has attached herself to a single issue. I hear she contribute to a number of causes.

I think its others who focus on an issue theyd rather she not publicise.

KatMcBundleFace · 28/10/2022 14:51

She would be amazing. Such brave and so much integrity. Love her

senua · 28/10/2022 14:54

@JenniferBarkley
However the way she's rabbidly[sic] attached herself to a single issue is unfortunate
She's not a single-issue sort of person. She writes, she makes charitable donations, supports the less-fortunate, etc, etc.
But if she is rabid (or rabbid, is that the Scottish versionGrin), does that make the TRA rabid too?

TropicalDrink · 28/10/2022 14:57

She’s achieved great success as an author.

But no to House of Lords. We don’t need more people in there with some seemingly right wing views and she’s obsessed with a minority niche issue that is out of all proportion to the reality.

Also after her bizarre ‘interview’ with the ‘president of Ukraine’ where she got scammed I’m not sure her judgement could be trusted on anything important.

Brefugee · 28/10/2022 15:00

frankly? i don't think it's a joking matter. She has been on the end of domestic abuse, and her charity supports women who have been abused by men. It is a natural extension of that that she would be concerned about abusers self identifying into women's spaces and continuing to abuse women all the while saying "Be Kind! i'm a repressed transwoman!"

The constant and unrelenting attacks on her, she answers. That is obvious too. And yet it keeps coming. And now? I have been beginning to think she has been driven to a position that she may not have been in if the fucking Be Kind brigade would do just that.

But here we are. A few emoticons just don't cut it.

As for "MN becoming a single issue site" it's pretty much always been a ... site for mums. that issue?

JenniferBarkley · 28/10/2022 15:01

Christ. I meant a joke about my "survey" of three posts.

You knew that though.

tkmethrthis · 28/10/2022 15:02

Women's rights are not a right wing view nor are they a minority niche issue that is out of proportion to all reality.

2bazookas · 28/10/2022 15:05

I wish she'd stand for election to the Scottish Parliament.

DismantledKing · 28/10/2022 15:09

according to you, a lot of lifelong socialist women have become right wing overnight.

Brefugee · 28/10/2022 15:11

what are the right wing views though? Donating her money to charity? Setting up literacy charities? Setting up domestic abuse charities and support?

Or is it the single point that she is insisting that women preserve the right to have sex-based services and spaces? is that right wing now?

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 28/10/2022 15:13

I have been beginning to think she has been driven to a position that she may not have been in if the fucking Be Kind brigade would do just that

She's been bombarded with death and rape threats daily for about 2.5 years for saying women exist as distinct from men and need some sex-based protections. And you think her response is what's disproportionate?
