Not putting the heating on yet

We live in the south and I’m insisting we don’t put the heating on until it gets properly cold. It’s 15 degrees overnight at the moment!!!

DP disagrees and wants it on

have you put yours on yet?

AIBU?

Im in the south too, I put the heating on briefly the other day when it was chucking down, but quickly turned it off again as it was too warm.

I am menopausal though so not even sure I'll need heating in the depth of winter

Daisy62 · 27/10/2022 22:29

Certainly not, London is really mild atm! Anyway, I'm determined to sit it out till Nov 1st to save money.

justanothermummma · 27/10/2022 22:35

Ours is set to 15 degrees as thermostat is in the draughty hall of our old house but all other rooms sit at around 16 degrees without the heating having been on. We have hive things on the radiators so we can set rooms if we want/need to.
Dressing gowns, blankets and cost duvets in cold nights.
We're northern to and used to it.
On the rare occasion it does come on it's actually uncomfortably hot for everyone ha!

rainydaysandcake · 27/10/2022 22:37

We are South too and it's been really mild. We have even had the bedroom window open a few nights this week, so no, no heating on yet

walshejlpaos · 27/10/2022 23:10

I love how competitively cold the people of Mumsnet are every year. I'm toasty warm with my heating on, it's lush.

itsnotmeitsu · 27/10/2022 23:22

My concern would be having pipes freezing and then bursting. Living rooms, bedrooms, etc this isn't going to happen, but pipes leading from the outside to the inside it may. I control the heating from a central thermostat and turn it down at night but never have it so low that it won't kick in if the bathroom temperatures are heading towards that level. This is around 12 degrees, but I usually have my thermostat set around 20 degrees during the day. When you have no water for sinks, baths, toilets, because your pipes have frozen it's a nightmare. If the pipes freeze and then thaw and burst whilst you're away you come home to a nightmare.

TabithaSally · 27/10/2022 23:31

We're south east and it's so warm. I'm a cold person so if I'm warm, it really is!

We've used ours 3 times since August for about an hour each time, just on the very few occasions it has been chilly. We also have a new build and its always warm so that also helps.

ExtraOnions · 27/10/2022 23:32

We’ve had the odd hour here and there, but it’s not properly on …

thelobsterquadrille · 27/10/2022 23:35

It's far, far too warm for the heating.

It's around 12-15 degrees during the day here and 5-6 degrees at night. We're in the NW.

I mean, it's not being competitively cold if you're not actually cold, surely?Grin

I've had a t-shirt and leggings on most days and I've been fine. I'd be sweating with the heating on!

Fairislefandango · 27/10/2022 23:41

It's been 14 degrees here today and tbh it hasn't even occurred to me to put the heating on. I've been in jeans and a long-sleeved t-shirt all day, haven't needed to put a jumper/cardigan on. I'm in the NW.

Hibye23289 · 27/10/2022 23:44

No heating, if I get cold I out a snoody and blanket on and I am boiling. Highly recommend them

I’m not sure if you are joking?

XenoBitch · 27/10/2022 23:47

Is 19 degrees in my house right now (Wiltshire), and that is with the back door open.

teenagetantrums · 27/10/2022 23:52

I'm in South West. We still have our bedroom windows open. Its not cold at all.i think we put heating on for an hour a week ago one night. If I'm cold l will put it on but no need yet

The amount of threads similar to this are painful tbh.
just make a choice, no one needs to be thinking you’re a hero for not heating you’re home yet

This. ^ I am sick of them.

Who CARES if someone hasn't put their heating yet? Confused

And as has been said, you're not special if you HAVEN'T.

Are people running out of subjects to post about or something?

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 27/10/2022 23:57

Why would you put the heating on? I'm in the SE and it's not predicted to drop below 16 degrees tonight.

I generally feel the cold, but even I haven't needed the heating on yet.

kitcat15 · 27/10/2022 23:59

mamabear715 · 27/10/2022 20:50

No! It's really mild, & I'm in the North!
Tell him to put another layer on..

Agree with this^
Its very mild in the NW ....15 degrees at night is not cold and does not require heating 🙄

thelobsterquadrille · 28/10/2022 00:20

@UmbilicusProfundus not sure why I'd be joking?

We're currently in bed with the window
wide open and a fan on! It's 14 degrees outside but it dropped to 4 degrees a couple of weeks ago 🤷🏻‍♀️

I haven't been cold and haven't felt the need to use the heating since about March.

It's worse than the number chiccken!

EllesB · 28/10/2022 04:37

15 overnight and he wants the heat on? That does seem excessive.

I've had mine on a bit so far but we had a stint of -2 overnight for a week or so. It's mellowed out though, 13 today with 3 overnight and we're supposed to get some really warm temps (maybe even 18!) next week so the heat is staying off for a while.

I'd be very cold at 15 degrees (and yes I wear vests, jumpers etc). We're all different.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 28/10/2022 05:03

No heat until nighttime is single digits!!!

MrsDoyle351 · 28/10/2022 05:07

I went out yesterday evening for something at 20.00 and it was 17 degrees!

It is ludicrously warm for the time of year - and we're an hour north of Manchester.

That's global warming all right.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 28/10/2022 05:38

Nope! Really mild still here in Cornwall
