To be annoyed at Prince Harry's memoir title SPARE

I have zero interest in this couple who seem to enjoy making a living on moaning about how they are poorly treated in Britain. Just saw the headline news and the cover of Harry's memoir with his face and one single word SPARE.

Get a life for goodness sake. I'm about his age and never once thought of him as a spare. He kinda invented his own tale.

How are they going to make money after this ? Their only currency is trashing the royals and seemingly being involved with them. KC will freeze them out so they won't have any gossip to sell. They also try to live like billionaires.

Nobody will have to buy it, it will be all over the news/internet

This.

It’s going to be £28 for the book. I can’t really imagine many people will be willing to pay that. Particularly when a lot of Harry’s “truth” lately has been shown to be anything but true.

Whataretheodds · 27/10/2022 13:28

It's a reference to the phrase 'Heir and spare' that royal brides are expected to produce. William is the Heir. Harry is the spare. So it makes sense as the title for his autobiography.

What's your issue with it?

It's lacking taste and respect.

SundownOnTheStair · 27/10/2022 14:19

I imagine it will be a pile of old shit.

Shit, Shite and Spare...there's a good title for the review

No way will I pay £28 that's so greedy. Wait for the papers to print it and debunk the lies. I do not want to give him any money.

SundownOnTheStair · 27/10/2022 14:20

Also, he has had a $20 million advance and out of this, his much trumpeted donation will be $1.5 million.
That said, I see in today's reports even that has been reduced to "hoping" to make charitable donation.

SundownOnTheStair · 27/10/2022 14:21

His much trumpeted Charitable donation

There’s a lot of dehumanising going on in this thread. Harry did have a very privileged life, or course, but he is still human. He is still entitled to feel how he he feels about his family, his life, and his upbringing. You don’t have to read it. I won’t be. I believe there should not even be a royal family.

But let’s try and remember that this is a human being, he has faced the normal challenges that many of us face regarding grief and feeling sidelined by the people who are supposed to care the most about us.

Many people on mumsnet make threads talking about their childhood and their relationships with their families and I’ve never seen the type of things being said there being expressed on those threads, it really isn’t that different.

lightand · 27/10/2022 14:22

I have a relative who constantly thinks of himself as poor me.
He is no such thing and neither is Harry.
Tedious.

Quite frankly if you judge yourself poorly, it doesnt do anyone any favours.
How will they teach the kids? To be victims as well?

DragonflyNights · 27/10/2022 14:22

lol I thought it was funny. Taking the piss out of being called the ‘spare’. But we can all internet the title how we want I guess.

x2boys · 27/10/2022 14:23

Next time you write a book Op ,ill run the title passed Harry and see what he thinks of it .

Isaidnoalready · 27/10/2022 14:23

He DIDNT have a shite upbringing he had a privileged one he wasn't constrained like his brother he could do more have more freedom he has literally never wanted for anything the death of his mother was an unbearable tragedy but thousands of children lose there parents and dont spend their lives acting like a victim especially when they as normal people didn't have access to so much mental health support and huge families for support

I was pleased when H&M took the decision to pursue an independent life in the US. Seemed such a bold and refreshing move.
Except they haven’t.
Every penny they earn appears to be based on being royal.
They really don’t have any obvious talent imo.

There's no talent there aside from moaning. Harry hasn't actually done anything worthwhile, he just feels sorry for himself all the time

shockthemonkey · 27/10/2022 14:24

"It is well-known term for the second child, especially in a wealthy family
It was his nickname in his family
Not sure what you thought about him is relevant
Everyone invents their own tale, that is normal for humans
I am extremely unlikely to read it, but the title makes sense and is fine."

I think the OP understands very well where the word "SPARE" comes from. I think her point is that Harry is, once again, centering his narrative around his victimhood.

PeekAtYou · 27/10/2022 14:24

Waterstones are selling it for half price.

To be annoyed at Prince Harry's memoir title SPARE
Sceptre86 · 27/10/2022 14:24

It's a book about him, in his own words and he can call it whatever he likes. The only issue I take is that he isn't the only one, he could have stayed in the army or got himself a proper job and lived as a private citizen years ago.

x2boys · 27/10/2022 14:25

This thread is good publicity for a book apperently nobody want ,s to read .....

Ellatella · 27/10/2022 14:25

It's tragic but for some, especially in America, victimhood sells. I find it disgusting how he publicly slags off his family but his fan base seem to thrive on it.

Surely you aren’t naïve enough to believe a privileged upbringing means a healthy loving upbringing?

CulturePigeon · 27/10/2022 14:26

He's made his bed, and doesn't seem to like lying on it.

I'm afraid we'll be fed all kinds of annoying whingey drivel for the rest of his life. Does he want a relationship with his family, or not? This isn't going to help.

Or is it? The pattern seems to be: M and H come over to the UK, get offended, go public with their self-centred moaning and piss off the RF, so when they need to return to the UK, the RF snub them or are understandably very guarded. Then the whole cycle starts again. It's actually quite a lucrative strategy.

tillytown · 27/10/2022 14:27

I wonder if he will include the many alleged accounts of abuse the staff of his uni suffered from him and his friends. It's weird how everyone seems to have forgotten about the stories that followed him when he was younger

MamaOfOneMasterOfNone · 27/10/2022 14:27

No one really knows the truth do they? They are assuming Harry and Meghan are liars but who knows? I believe there is truth behind what they are saying, Diana was killed off 100% and I can’t wait to have a read!

amijustparanoidorjuststoned · 27/10/2022 14:28

If you don't like it, don't look. Why does it bother you so much 😂

antelopevalley · 27/10/2022 14:29

There were things the palace said Diana lied about that have been proven true.

Lalalolol · 27/10/2022 14:29

WahineToa · 27/10/2022 14:08

Makes sense, that is the name he was known as and it seems like the right title. I’ll be interested to read it and I wish him and his family all the best. I believe everyone should have the right to shape their own life and tell their own story- nobody has to read it- and that principle I hold doesn’t change because of someone’s family, wealth, or ‘duty’. I find the concept of the British monarchy really dehumanising. I think you are enslaving a family and throwing them money and castles so they aren’t allowed to moan about it. I say fuck off to that. It’s mental. Good luck to him, his mother would love this book.

Are you only interested to know about his story and feelings or about anyone who had a bad childhood and hard life?
Because I can tell you about my childhood but pity I am not a royal celebrity, so you won't hear. I am sick of his celebrity privilege which gives him access to the media, publishers, Oprah and list goes on....
